Alhassan Sualihu Dandaawa, a former Member of Parliament for the Karaga Constituency and current Deputy Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), has come under scrutiny over remarks that appear to degrade the constituents he once served.
The former NDC MP reportedly suggested that, based on the work President John Dramani Mahama has done, the NDC could win the Karaga seat in 2028 even if it presented a dog as its parliamentary candidate.
His comments have sparked criticism, with opponents arguing that the statement amounts to a disparaging portrayal of Karaga constituents by suggesting they would vote for virtually anyone, even a dog, simply because of the works Mahama has done.
The former MP was speaking after donating a Toyota Voxy to the NDC constituency chairman for Karaga, in acknowledgement of his dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to the party’s growth made this known.
Alhassan Sualihu Dandaawa stated, “With the kind of work President John Mahama has done in Karaga, even if we present a dog as our candidate, it will win the 2028 general election”.
“John Mahama has empowered us in various sectors, and we are ready to take back the seat from the NPP”.
“We will let [Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam] know that the Karaga seat belongs to the NDC and not the NPP,” he said.
“Expect more projects from the NDC for the development of Karaga, and before the end of John Mahama’s tenure, Karaga will be developed massively,” he stated.
In other news, Amin Adam has criticised the Mahama government for abandoning the Agenda 111 hospital project in the Karaga constituency in favour of a 24-hour market.
According to Amin Adam, the 24-Hour Market is not needed in the Karaga constituency, as traders can easily sit in front of their houses and sell.
Amin Adam questioned why the Mahama government would prioritise a market over a hospital that would save lives.
The former Finance Minister is quoted as saying, “Traders can sit in front of their houses and sell easily, but building a hospital with equipment and doctors to save lives is not easy”.
According to Dr Amin Adam, he lobbied strongly for Karaga to benefit from the Agenda 111 project, but the government chose to abandon it.
“When the government distributed the Agenda 111 hospital projects, Karaga wasn’t included, but I lobbied for Karaga to benefit from the project. Look at it now, it’s halted,” he noted.
He further lamented that about half of the road projects in the constituency have stalled due to non-payment of contractors.
