Saddick Adams, the Head of Sports at Angel Broadcasting Network (Angel FM) and morning show host, has warned President John Mahama that he will bear the consequences of the reported cement prices set to increase by GH¢12.
The broadcaster noted that the hike stems from shipment of clinker that was delayed at the port, attracting demurrage charges which importers are now seeking to recover.
Sadduck Adams argued that ordinary Ghanaians should not bear the cost of port congestion, calling on the President to instruct his ministers to act swiftly to prevent the increase.
He warned that such decisions could have political consequences, and criticised the development.
Speaking on the September 10, 2026, edition of the Angel Morning Show, Saddick Adams stated, “I have heard that cement prices are set to increase by GH¢12 in the coming days. The reason, I am told, is that a shipment of clinker was delayed at the port, leading to demurrage charges, and now every cost incurred is being passed on”.
“To the Trade and Transport Minister, we do not care about these costs. Mr President, instruct your responsible ministers to act swiftly on anything that will affect cement prices, because it is not the business of ordinary Ghanaians that congestion at the port has caused extra charges,” he added.
Saddick Adams added, “Speak to your appointees; otherwise, you will bear the consequences. Young men are building, and if cement prices rise by GH¢12 per bag, what message are you sending?”
Saddick Adam further warned that small matters like cement pricing could erode public confidence and make the government unpopular.
“You may not contest again, but those who hope to contest in future will suffer politically because of these decisions. Small issues like this can make your government and party very unpopular,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has rejected claims that congestion at the Tema Port is responsible for the recent increase in cement prices.
GPHA detailed that the cost of bringing clinker and cement into Ghana is influenced by several operational and commercial factors, arguing that it cannot be solely due to port congestion.
Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) clarification follows a statement by the Chamber of Cement Manufacturers, Ghana (COCMAG), which linked the cement price increases to congestion at the Tema Port.
GPHA further disclosed that recent dredging has increased the depth of Berths 13 and 14, which now allows cement manufacturers to receive larger vessels.
They further urged cement manufacturers to adopt modern cargo-handling systems being introduced at the Tema Port to reduce vessel turnaround times and ease pressure on berths.
GPHA highlighted that cement pricing should be assessed against the broader supply chain, including vessel planning, trucking, cargo handling, port selection and inland transportation, rather than blaming port congestion alone.
