The lawyer for National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Samuel Atta Akyea, has debunked claims that he has abandoned his client in the ongoing case.
Atta Akyea, in a statement dated September 10, 2026, described social media reports as “wretched and vile propaganda”.
He stated, “My attention has been drawn to some wretched and vile propaganda circulating on social media that I have abandoned my clients”.
“I cannot abandon or disown my client,” Mr Atta Akyea said, adding that his legal team was preparing a “very solid and credible submission of no case”.
“Kwabena Adu-Boahene’s case was launched on the platform of media trial, where lies sell. The court is the forum where evidence and law should settle vexed matters,” he said.
In related news, Samuel Atta Akyea has reacted to claims that his side presented a forged document during the trial as proof of the purchase of the cyber defence system at the centre of the trial.
According to Atta Akyea, he was the person who obtained the said document from the Israeli company that supplied the defence system, arguing that there is nothing fake about it.
Speaking to the media after court proceedings on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Atta Akyea stated, “A very cruel propaganda was put in the public space that I forged documents mandating from ISC Holdings Limited in Israel. I consider it very, very cruel, and the reason why it is being carried out that way is that that is the coup de grâce of the prosecution’s case”.
“Throughout the trial, the prosecution is running away from calling a material witness, the vendor, the one who supplied the cyber defence system. They don’t want to call it – the Israeli company,” he added.
He asserted, “Because when you say that somebody has stolen your money under the guise of acquiring a property, and the property has never been delivered, and he has paid some of the money to the vendor, a serious, incredible investigation to send EOCO and the Attorney General to find the Israeli company, first of all, to say, have you received this money, and have you delivered the cyber defence system?
“That is the poverty of this trial. Throughout this whole case, the Attorney General and EOCO didn’t have the guts to confront the vendor, the one who supplied the cyber defence system,” he added.
Atta Akyea further argued that it is laughable to state that he forged documents and presented them to the state security apparatus because they can easily verify them.
He added, “How can I forge documents from Israel and give it to the Attorney General and give it to National Security and give it to EOCO? That is insanity. I gave the documents to them, the documents I obtained from Israel; the documents are not forged at all.
“That is the absurdity of the propaganda being turned out that somebody has forged documents to come and deceive the court… we are not the ones that are going to forge anything. The case is speaking for itself,” he fumed.
He further stressed that everybody in the national security sphere knows that the cyber defence system has been delivered, but the facts on the matter are being misconstrued in order to convict his client, Adu-Boahene.
The development follows Frank Cromwell, the lead Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) investigator in the case, telling the court that a letter purportedly confirming the purchase of a Cyber Defence System from an Israeli company is fake.
According to a report by GHOne TV, the EOCO officer is quoted as saying, “Our forensic investigations show that the letter purported to be confirming the purchase of the Cyber Defence System is fake”.
Background
Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and one other person have been charged by the state for stealing, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
According to the charge sheet, Kwabena Adu Boahene and his wife stole state funds to the tune of GHc 49 million.
The Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, filed 11 charges against Kwabena Adu-Boahene and three others at the High Court in Accra.
