Inaki Williams, in a social media post, has announced that his journey with the Ghana national team the Black Stars has come to an end.
In a post on X, Inaki Williams wrote, “I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end. 🇬🇭❤️
I leave happy, proud and with the peace of mind of knowing that I gave everything every time I wore this shirt.
Ghana has given me much more than football. It has allowed me to come back home, feel even closer to my roots and experience the enormous pride of representing my country and wearing this flag on my chest.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has been part of this journey and for all the love you have always shown me.
Ghana will always be a part of me. I will continue supporting the Black Stars as one of you, wherever I am.
Medaase. Always Ghana. 🇬🇭❤️”.
Inaki Williams made his Black Stars debut in 2022, making 28 appearances for the senior national team.
During his time with the national team, Inaki Williams scored twice and played in two FIFA World Cup tournaments with the Black Stars in 2022 and the latest being the just-ended 2026.
Inaki Williams was also at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with the Black Stars as they failed to advance from the group stage.
Athletic Club attacker switched his international allegiance to play for Ghana in July 2022 after previously representing Spain.
He earned his first Black Stars call-up in September 2022, when he was called up by former coach Otto Addo to the squad for pre-World Cup friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.
Following his retirement from international football, Inaki now turns his full attention to playing for Athletic Club.
In other news, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that they have reached an agreement with Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz to continue as head coach of the Black Stars.
The GFA disclosed that discussions between the coach, the Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation resulted in an agreement for Queiroz to take up a new coaching mandate.
According to the GFA, Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars made him the preferred choice.
“The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter,” the Association said in a statement on Wednesday, September 2.
However, the GFA did not disclose the duration or specific terms of the new mandate, adding that details about Queiroz’s new assignment and the Black Stars’ upcoming programme would be announced in due course.
