A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Steven Odarteifio, has quizzed the amount of resources. the late Jerry John Rawlings had before contesting an election.

Steven Nhyira Odarteifio, during a studio debate on Ghanaian politics, questioned Rawlings’ humble start before rising to lead the NDC and become president.

According to him, politicians like Jerry John Rawlings and Thomas Sankara had nothing but rose to lead their respective countries.

He argued that politics is not necessarily about money but verve and nerve.

Steven Nhyira Odarteifio made this remark in an interview on Neat FM when he was asked by the host whether he had money; he stated, “I have intellectual resources, I have social capital, I have political capital; that is the most important thing.

Na Rawlings no koraa what money did he have? Thomas Sankara: how much money did he have? Kwame Nkrumah, he died with just a chopbox. So it is not money; what we need is verve and nerve and people who can push, and that is what will bring the money.

He further added, “If I had no money, I can’t even go and meet the NDC youth wing in Greater Accra; I can’t travel to the Bono region on Sunday. I can’t go and meet the Winnebba team on Saturday. It requires money and resources, but that is not the defining measure of whether somebody can win.

By the time I am done with my tour of this entire nation, they will all be begging for a new kind of leadership, and I am sure my opponents will also resign before the eventual election on December 12”.

Meanwhile, Steven Nhyira Odarteifio, some days ago, declared his candidature for National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking during his declaration, he stated, “We need youth leadership that knows how to mobilise young people not only for political power, but for economic freedom.

Leadership that can reach beyond those who already carry an NDC card to the millions of young Ghanaians asking a very simple question: what can the party of Jerry John Rawlings, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama mean for my life”.

He added, “This candidature is rooted not in ambition, but in obligation. Millions of young Ghanaians placed their faith in President Mahama and the NDC because they believed in a Ghana of opportunity and dignity. Our responsibility is to make that faith count”.

“We need a Youth Wing that does not only mobilise young people for political power, but mobilises opportunity between elections. We must help convert the political power entrusted to the NDC into economic opportunity for the young people of Ghana,” he said.
