Paul Yandoh, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Director, has said he will not allow himself to be demeaned after President John Dramani Mahama described him as ignorant.
According to Paul Yandoh, President Mahama branded him “ignorant” after the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, reported his remarks to the presidency.
He, however, added that he is currently seeking the officials responsible for what he described as the “politics of insult,” in order to formally report the President, as he believes he has been subjected to an insult.
Paul Yandoh argued that if he had insulted President John Mahama, he would have been arrested, adding that why should he be insulted without consequence?
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Owia TV and shared on X on September 17, 2026, Paul Yandoh stated, “I was only asking why, all of a sudden, soldiers had been deployed to that area to construct the road. A soldier is a soldier; you cannot challenge him. But I am not even sure the compensation due to the farmers has been paid. People must understand my concern”.
“Soldiers are meant to be deployed for external operations. What has changed that they are now being sent for road construction?” he added.
“When I raise questions, I am told I am ignorant, which I know came from Amoakohene’s report. The President himself said he heard a radio commentator questioning the deployment, and I was the one. I am convinced Amoakohene reported me to the President, leading him to call me ignorant.
He added, “I am searching for the officials responsible for this politics of insult, because if I had insulted the President, I would have been arrested immediately. Why then should I be insulted without consequence?
I will not allow myself to be demeaned. I am deeply pained”, Yandoh insisted.
His comment follows President John Dramani Mahama who took a swipe at former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, over his comments on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
Paul Yandoh, during a recent radio discussion, criticised the use of the military for clearing the path for the expressway.
According to Paul Yandoh, Ghana’s soldiers have stopped fighting wars and are now constructing roads.
He stated, “Today, Ghana’s soldiers have stopped fighting wars. They (the soldiers) no longer go on missions in Lebanon and other places. Now, Ghana’s soldiers are constructing roads”.
However, President Mahama, speaking at a ceremony to mark the handing over of the right-of-way for the expressway some days ago, jabbed the NPP communicator.
According to John Mahama, only an ignorant person would say that soldiers cannot be used for the construction of roads.
He argued that during the PNDC era, the late Rawlings used the military to construct Donkorkrom Road.
“I heard one of the radio commentators say, ‘… soldiers are now constructing roads’. I mean he is ignorant. For those of us who were old enough in the PNDC era when Rawlings decided to open up Afram Plains, no civilian contractor could construct Donkorkrom Road.
“It was the Ghana Armed Forces that were asked to go and open up the road to Donkorkrom, and they accomplished the task,” he said.
