Retired Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the founder of the defunct UT Bank, has said he was once invited by security agencies for dancing in front of former President Akufo-Addo and Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin.
According to Kofi Amoabeng, a dance at an anniversary celebration of the Okyenhene of Akyem Abuakwa, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, and then President Akufo-Addo got him in trouble with security agencies.
Kofi Amoabeng recounted that upon returning to Accra after the anniversary celebration, he got several invitations from state security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Kingdom FM, shared on X on September 19, 2026, Kofi Amoabeng narrated, “It is not as if I’m good at dancing. I just like it. Whether my moves are off the beat or not, I’m just happy when I’m dancing. But sometimes dancing gets you in trouble.
“I remember being invited to the palace of Okyehene for his 15th or 20th anniversary. When I got there, I was ushered to my table, and I took some champagne… The band led by Pat Thomas was playing some good music. I got up and danced. I danced with (sic). We were the only two who danced,” he narrated.
“That was in December. When I came back to Accra on the 5th of December, I was told that EOCO was looking for me; the Special Investigation Team was also looking for me… the Police CID was looking for me.
“I asked what was going on, and I was told it was because of the way I dance in Kyebi. When I was dancing, the President, the Vice President, the ministers were all there, but they didn’t dance, but I did,” he said.
In other news, Kofi Amoabeng has said wasting someone’s time is a partial murder.
Kofi Amoabeng admitted that one of Africa’s biggest challenges is how Africans waste time.
According to Kofi Amoabeng, as humans and beings alive, all humans have is time, adding that one commits partial murder when they waste someone’s time.
Speaking during a lecture at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Prince Kofi Amoabeng stated, “One of the challenges I find in Africa and every concern Africa is worried about is keeping to time. I like the way you laugh, but it is not something you should laugh about.
You see, as humans and being alive, all we have is time. In other words, your life is just the time you have here on earth. If somebody lives 70 years, it means he had 70 years of time. I find that to respect any human being, you respect their time.
If you disrespect their time, you have disrespected the whole human being; it is that serious”.
He further added, “The biggest crime in the law book is murder. Murder is when you shorten somebody’s time they have on this earth. So if you waste somebody’s one hour, you have committed partial murder. This is how serious it is. So in dealing with people or respecting people, if you get it right, that is ultimate customer service.
When somebody walks to you and is looking for a service, use as little of their time as possible and give their life or time back to them for them to decide what they want to do with it”.
The time that you take to serve them, make sure it is quality time, and they find it memorable because there are two aspects to time. The share quantity of it and the quality of it.
Quantity you don’t determine it qualifity you can do something about it. So, in customer service and to win clients, make sure you deal with them in the shortest possible time, and if you want to extend it, ask for their permission, show concern and don’t waste their time because you are wasting their life”.
