Rev Emmanuel Boakye-Danquah, a Ghanaian pastor, is on the run after allegedly turning his church, the Holy Ghost Fire Hour Ministry International in Klagon, into a counterfeit printing hub.
According to the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), Rev Emmanuel Boakye-Danquah is wanted in connection with an alleged counterfeit currency operation uncovered at his church.
The National Security Council Secretariat identified Rev Emmanuel Boakye Danquah’s church as the location where a substantial quantity of counterfeit production coupons and equipment was discovered following a National Security-led investigation into the operations of a transnational counterfeiting syndicate.
The NSCS disclosed that its investigators initially raided an office facility at Lashibi and Klagon, where five suspects were arrested, and printing equipment was recovered.
They further disclosed that intelligence subsequently led security operatives to the headquarters of the religious facility at Klagon, and the operation resulted in the seizure of a printing machine and two operational vehicles.
A search of the church premises reportedly revealed that the administrative offices and residential quarters were being used as a major production and storage facility.
Authorities reportedly seized over US$5.2 million, CFA 623 million and GH¢7.1 million in counterfeit coupons yet to be processed and printed.
In the meantime, the pastor is being sought as part of a wider investigation into alleged criminal networks involved in the large-scale printing, possession and distribution of counterfeit Ghanaian and foreign currencies.
Also, a fetish priest, Nana Nyarko Derrick Dapaah, has been arrested by national security operatives after a counterfeit printing hub was discovered at his shrine in Amuzu, Kasoa.
During the raid on his base, operatives recovered one(1) printing machine, fake gold bars, five(5) mobile devices, US$477,500, GH¢195,990 and CFA60,000 in counterfeit notes ready to be spent.
Meanwhile, the NSCS have disclosed that intelligence gathered during the nationwide crackdown indicated that some of the syndicates allegedly exploited churches and administrative premises of religious organisations as cover for their activities.
They further noted that such premises allegedly provided a level of concealment for printing equipment and counterfeit materials while reducing suspicion around activities taking place there.
The NSCS crackdown was conducted between June 12 and July 24, 2026, and involved six coordinated raids across the Greater Accra Region and surrounding districts.
The NSCS operations resulted in the arrest of 16 suspects and the seizure of four counterfeit currency printing machines, six vehicles and two motorcycles.
The agency added that investigations had been completed and case dockets submitted to the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice, with prosecution proceedings ongoing at the Accra High Court, General Jurisdiction.
Some netizens reacting to the developments stated, “Until we open our eyes in this country about the rate at which some pastors build their churches at a faster rate, we wouldn’t understand how money laundering works. These people use beauty spas, restaurants, churches and accessories businesses to wash this money”.
An X user added, “I posted it here sometime ago that most of the churches in Ghana are into money laundering. I said that most so-called men of God are into organised crimes. You know what? The church is the safest place to organise a crime because they are not checked. You haven’t seen anything”.
One last netizen added, “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will perform great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. Look! I have forewarned you”.
