NPP chairmanship position ‘useless’ – Boakye Agyarko’s old video resurfaces

An old video of Boakye Agyarko has surfaced of him downplaying the Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) just days to the party’s national executive elections.

In the viral resurfaced video shared by Ghanaweb, Boakye Agyarko, who is currently one of the aspirants contesting for the party’s Chairmanship position, was captured in the video describing the position as useless and without any authority.

In the resurfaced video, Boakye Agyarko stated, “I will not contest the position of chairman of the New Patriotic Party; at national level, the authority is vested in the General Secretary, the Chairman, ‘Simpa Panin’, to wit the chairman is useless.”

The video of Boakye Agyarko has since triggered reactions on social media, with many netizens questioning what has changed after he had earlier described the position as irrelevant.

Meanwhile, a Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has been projected to win the NPP’s NPP chairmanship race according to the latest Global InfoAnalytics poll.

The Global InfoAnalytics poll has placed John Boadu at the top of the party’s contest, with a 10-point lead over former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

According to Global InfoAnalytics, the September 30 poll, based on the firm’s Committed Delegates Model, places John Boadu at 48%, ahead of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who records 38%.

Also, former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko is at 12%, while former First Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe records 2%.

The September 30 Graphic also disclosed net favourability scores for the four candidates: John Boadu with a +64, Agyarko at +58, Afoko at +45 and Crabbe at +39.

According to Global InfoAnalytics, the latest poll used random probability sampling from the 16 regions and the 2026 NPP constituencies register.

They further disclosed that the survey was conducted through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI), with a 98% confidence level and a ±1.34 percentage-point margin of error.

In related news, a new survey by Professor Smart Sarpong of Kumasi Technical University in collaboration with Feedback Africa has also projected that John Boadu has taken a commanding lead in the party’s National Chairman race.

The survey, released on September 29, surveyed 9,882 respondents, comprising 5,276 NPP delegates and 4,606 stakeholders across 156 constituencies in 14 regions.

The Political Environment Assessment Survey 2026 fieldwork was conducted between September 10 and 28, 2026.

The survey recorded 46.5% support for John Boadu among all respondents in the National Chairman contest, followed by former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who polled 24.8%.

Also, former National Chairman Paul Afoko polled 9.1%, while Sammy Crabbe recorded 5.5%. About 14.1% did not disclose their preference.

John Boadu also recorded the highest percentage among percentages with 47.9% among constituency officers, 41.5% among electoral area coordinators and among polling station executives, 46.8%.
