The Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has been granted a GH¢50 million bail with three sureties by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
On Thursday, October 1, Baffour Awuah voluntarily surrendered himself at EOCO’s premises at about 10 a.m. to assist in an ongoing investigation.
The development comes on the heels of a High Court warrant issued for his arrest on Wednesday, September 30, authorising EOCO to arrest the MP.
Reports disclosed that the arrest warrant was issued after lawyers for the Economic and Organised Crime Office applied on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
According to 3news.com, EOCO, through its lawyers, told the court its officers had exhausted reasonable means of securing Baffour Awuah’s voluntary appearance for an ongoing investigation.
They further disclosed that the arrest was necessary because of fears of documents relevant to the investigations being concealed, altered or destroyed.
The latest development comes on the heels of EOCO’s botched attempt to arrest the Manhyia South legislator days ago.
Also, EOCO disclosed that Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, ignored two invitations issued in February 2026 to assist with an ongoing investigation.
According to EOCO, its invitations were not honoured, prompting the Office to take steps to secure the MP’s attendance in accordance with the law.
EOCO revealed that its officers were acting in the lawful discharge of their responsibilities when they attempted to arrest the MP in connection with the investigation.
Meanwhile, EOCO has stated that after Baffour Awuah surrendered himself, he was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds.
EOCO disclosed that the Baffour Awuah ongoing investigations has to with allegations relating to criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters under investigation.
In a statement, EOCO stated, “The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) wishes to inform the public that Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, voluntarily surrendered himself at the premises of EOCO today at approximately 10 am to assist investigators in ongoing investigations.
His appearance follows several months of efforts by the Office to secure his attendance before investigators in connection with ongoing investigations into allegations relating to criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters under investigation.
The Office subsequently commenced the applicable investigative and operational procedures in respect of Mr Baffour Awuah.
In accordance with those procedures, Mr Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds.
EOCO further wishes to assure the public that its investigations will progress professionally, independently and in accordance with due process
The Office will continue to pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine the available evidence and afford all persons involved their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws.
The public is therefore urged to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions regarding the culpability of any individual.
EOCO will provide further information when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so”.
