Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy Director of Operations at the Office of the President, has warned the opposition NPP after the election of Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, as the 1st National Chairman.
According to Mustapha Gbande, suggestions that NPP members who commit crimes cannot be arrested with the election of Bamba, a former head of the vigilante group, Delta Force, are laughable.
Gbande stressed that the NDC is not afraid of Bamba in any way and will deal with any acts of violence that his election brings.
He further stated that Ghana has passed the era of violence, noting that if it was about violence, the NDC would have killed all NPP members by now. and ransacked them and beaten them well at the recent by-election.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Asempa FM on October 6, 2026, Mustapha Gbande stated, “Some of the NPP members are saying that the election of Bamba means we can’t arrest NPP members. We would arrest them; if you commit an offence, we would arrest you. They are also saying they have brought Bamba to beat NDC members. Who is he coming to beat? Bamba is in the Ashanti Region; he is our boy; he is our little brother.
“We are past the era of violence. If it is about violence, we would have killed all NPP members by now. We would have ransacked them and beaten them well at the recent by-election, but we didn’t do that,” he added.
He added, “They should stop threatening us as a party… but let nobody create an impression that they are coming with violent attacks. Do you know the reserves we have? Do you know the reserves we have? It is because of President Mahama that the party has become one of only women…
“The NDC is a formidable party, resolute, and we are on stand-by. We are like tamed dogs because our leader is a gentle soul. So we’ve been tamed, but they should not advance the conversation that we have elected Bamba… he is coming to precipitate violence,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bernard Bediako, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has questioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its decision to elect Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, as First Vice Chairman.
According to the Akwatia MP, he is so shocked that the NPP elected Kojo Bamba, a convict, as first vice chairman, arguing that he should not have been allowed to contest.
The Akwatia MP stressed that he was surprised that Kojo Bamba was able to pass the party’s vetting process despite the NPP Constitution’s position on people who have been convicted of certain offences.
He referred to Article 3(C)(iii) of the NPP Constitution, which he claims prevents members convicted of certain offences from holding positions or contesting elections within the party.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on October 6, 2026, Bernard Bediako stated, “Now, when you come to the vice-chair and then all that, of course we were all surprised, but it’s a very interesting one. The first vice-chair is Boadu, and it’s been said, and I’m so shocked how NPP got it wrong because if you read Article 3 of the Constitution, it talks about eligibility to hold an office within their party, and it escaped the NPP that this is a convict”.
“Did it escape them that the said gentleman is a convict? What?… Article 3(C) (iii) of the NPP constitution says a member shall have the right to contest for any position or office within the party in accordance with rules and regulations governing elections,” he argued.
He added, “A member shall be disqualified from holding any office or contesting any election in the party if he or she has been convicted and/or sentenced by a court of competent jurisdiction in respect of any offence involving high treason, an offence involving the security of the state, dishonesty, fraud, or moral turpitude, unless a period of 10 years has elapsed after serving the sentence or he or she has been granted a full pardon”.
The Akwatia MP insisted, “I’m so shocked that it is not up to 10 years that this gentleman could pass vetting… but you know very well that you [NPP] goofed”.
