Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a Private legal practitioner, has predicted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) two-thirds parliamentary majority will be decimated in the 2028 election.

According to Barker-Vormawor, the NDC has been very underwhelming with its two-thirds majority.

He argued that the NDC, with its majority, has failed to deliver major reforms or significantly change the way the legislature exercises its oversight duty.

Barker-Vormawor also slammed the NDC majority in Parliament for failing to use its numbers to strengthen oversight of the Executive or address pressing social challenges.

In a post on X,  Barker-Vormawor wrote, “I have seen Mussa Dankwah’s poll showing that nearly 60% of NDC delegates rate their Madina MP in Parliament as between average or very poor.

I have no comment on the Madina MP specifically,

But on NDC’s 2/3rds majority generally. Let me say this. I also believe that the 2/3’ds has been very underwhelming.

We haven’t seen major programmatic reforms that have moved governance in any strategic direction. We haven’t seen parliamentary oversight over the executive change in any dramatic fashion, and we haven’t seen the power of parliament utilised to address social issues facing the Ghanaian.

It will seem the socialist left came to power without a true left programme. The political Left is bereft of ideas as it has always been. No programme of liberation is yet in progress.  As the French say in Kumasi, “dadanoa”.

I predict that 2028 will decimate the NDC majority in Parliament considerably, if we don’t see that majority come into its own very quickly.

To be fair, some of the old titans who made Parliament Parliament have left the house or are busy ministers. What we have now is a Parliament that is uninspiring.

Perhaps this is a broader legacy of the hybrid arrangement. That is true. Perhaps it is too many expectations from me on a Parliament that doesn’t know any tricks as to how to be any different.

As they say in Anloga, “You cannot expect the Kama Sutra from those who only know missionary style”.

Shalom”.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the party’s real danger is not the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Mustapha Gbande, the NDC’s biggest threat ahead of the 2028 elections is the NDC itself.

The NDC man argued that the party’s fortunes will be largely determined by how it manages its internal relationships, members and governance.

He further urged the NDC to focus less on NPP’s newly elected executives and pay greater attention to maintaining unity within its own ranks.

Gbande said the party’s handling of its internal structures and relationships would determine its success in the next general election.

He denied suggestions that the NPP’s new leadership poses a major threat to the NDC.

Speaking on Onua TV’s Onua Maakye, Mustapha Gbande stated, “The real danger to the NDC is not the NPP conference; it is the NDC and its governance”.

“The danger can only come from within our own house rather than from the current crop of executives chosen by our political opponents,” he said.

“How we manage our relationships, our members and our structures ahead of 2028 is what will determine our success,” he stated.

“Our biggest threat is not the NPP,” he said.

“If the NPP believes violence is the path back to power, the NDC should not be underestimated,” he said.
