Daniel Nortey, a communications officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Amasaman, Accra, has sparked outrage on social media after his shocking comments over the rape allegations involving the headmaster of the Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai.
The NDC communicator, who appeared as a panellist on Amansan TV, was discussing a sex scandal involving Zakaria Abdulai, who has been accused of sexually assaulting and engaging in sexual relationships with several female students.
During the Amansan TV discussion, Daniel Nortey appeared to downplay the seriousness of the allegations, questioning those criticising the headmaster.
He stated, “He’s a rapist, so what? Is today the first time someone is raping someone?”
Daniel Nortey also turned his attention to another panellist, saying, “Haven’t you also raped someone before?”
The NDC communications officer’s comment has since sparked outrage, with several social media users condemning the comment, describing it as an insensitive attitude towards rape and sexual violence.
Ghanaian media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, who shared the video, stated, “Buuuuulu.
A lot of men haven’t raped any woman before and would never….and find your existence repulsive. Siaaaaa”.
Another X user added, “All these animals have relevance because of politics when they need to be in a zoo.
In a serious country, they’d investigate him, and he has probably raped several times”.
A netizen added, “These people are in political positions? We’re doomed as a nation!!! WTF? Every man has done what? Some of us have morals and good upbringing. This one needs to be locked up real quick!”.
One last X user stated, “Social media is the reason why people are becoming aware of this. Rape has been normalised for far too long; out of every 10 girls you meet, at least 6 have ever been raped or sexually abused by a family friend, teacher, extended family member, mostly just a familiar male figure”.
Meanwhile, Meanwhile, Zakaria Abdulai, the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School(SHTS), has been arrested over sexual misconduct allegations.
The Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, made the disclosure when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
According to Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka. the case had been transferred from the regional level to Police Headquarters for investigation.
The Interior Minister said the matter came to his attention on September 7, when the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received a report.
He revealed that he subsequently requested that the investigation be handled at the national level.
“We’ve been able to get one of the ladies; maybe I shouldn’t be putting so much information out. About semen, we are getting DNA… So, what is happening is that this gentleman has been arrested. He’s going through the due process,” the Minister said.
The Interior Minister explained that investigators were considering DNA evidence but would require a court order before collecting DNA samples, in accordance with the law.
Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka stressed that the headmaster was presumed innocent until proven guilty and said he would have the opportunity to respond to the allegations as the investigation continued.
Additionally, Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has disclosed that the number of students who have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse involving the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School has risen from 16 to 19.
According to Manasseh Azure, three additional students had reportedly come forward.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, October 18, Manasseh Azure stated, “From yesterday, my sources at the school told me the number has grown to 19. So way more names have come up, and it is likely there will be more, because some didn’t give a report”.

@thenanaaba Hello Nana Aba, thank you for sharing this. We actually discussed this in a taxi on my way to work, and I was surprised by how two men were defending the headmaster’s actions. They even argued that the children were always the cause of such incidents.
