Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, has alleged that some regional executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were involved in the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa scandal.

According to Sammi Awuku, information he has gathered suggests government appointees tasked NDC regional executives with collecting money from individuals interested in travelling abroad during the World Cup.

Sammi Awuku further disclosed that the pressure had mounted on the regional executives following public disclosures about the alleged visa scandal.

Speaking in an interview with UTV, Sammi Awuku stated, “The NPP has about 35 of these NDC scandals, and they will be rolled out from now until the elections. In this month alone, haven’t we discussed two of them? The World Cup visa scandal. I can confidently tell you today that some NDC regional executives were the conduit the appointees used to collect money for this World Cup scandal”.

“We will mount a challenge to their reset agenda. I maintain that some of the NDC regional executives were involved. So when the pressure started, it was not the appointees who came under pressure first, but the regional executives who mobilised the funds”.

Sammi Awuku further stated, “This is not rocket science; if they want it, we will provide them with names and voice notes. On constituency platforms, it’s voice notes because not everyone is good at English to type”.

Meanwhile, details have emerged in the alleged visa scandal linked to Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with investigations revealing how prospective travellers were reportedly recruited through contractors and intermediaries and charged thousands of dollars for assistance with visa applications.

According to JoyNews journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, speaking on Monday, October 12, 2026, disclosed that a list of 90 people presented as event coordinators and volunteers for the tournament was forwarded to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation by the then Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

Meanwhile, Kofi Adams, the Sports Minister, has distanced himself from the 2026 World Cup visa scandal, accusing TRIBE Culture Fest of defrauding individuals who paid for assistance to secure visas.

According to Kofi Adams, the petitions submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) indicated that the company and some individuals had received money in connection with the visa arrangements.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, October 13, Kofi Adams stated, “They may have been doing a so-called genuine business, but on this occasion and in this particular matter, they have defrauded the people, and they must be held liable for it and all others, including any government official who is found to have involved himself or herself in any way”.

“One of them actually petitioned the CID to indicate that, look, when we return from the World Cup, people are pursuing us. I’ve made some refunds. The rest are refusing to make refunds even after a series of meetings,” he said.

Kofi Adams further stressed that no government funds had been lost, arguing that the money was allegedly paid by private individuals without the government’s knowledge.

“No government money has been lost. It is individuals who paid this money to them, on the blind side of the government arrangement,” he said.
