Mavis Nkansah Boadu, the Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere East, has finally broken her silence following a ban imposed on her by the Agonamanhene, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, preventing her from organising any form of event within his jurisdiction.

The NPP, while addressing students who were preparing to participate in an inter-school sporting competition, explained that efforts were underway to resolve the disagreement.

He, however, revealed that the inter-school sporting competition has been suspended, assuring the students that she was doing everything possible to ensure the competition took place,

Mavis Nkansah Boadu disclosed that they would be informed of a new date if the matter remained unresolved.

Speaking to the students, she stated, “I am sure you are looking forward to today’s game, right? Unfortunately, there is a little problem that we are trying to resolve. So, for today, the games will not come on, and we are hoping that by tomorrow, the issue will be resolved. If not, we will communicate a new date to you.

“I know that you are not excited. You were very expectant and looking forward to this game. Unfortunately, the owners of the land say otherwise, that we cannot go ahead, and we respect the owners of the land, our paramount chiefs, and all of that. But definitely, it will come on,” she said.

The development follows the Omanhene of the Agona Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, who banned Afigya Sekyere East MP Mavis Nkansah-Boadu from holding social events across seven communities under his jurisdiction, including her upcoming inter-SHS football tournament, over an alleged show of disrespect to his traditional authority.

According to the information gathered, the ban follows a dispute over an invitation the MP sent to the traditional ruler to attend the grand finale of the MNB Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament, scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Agona Community AstroTurf.

In a letter dated October 8, 2026, and titled “Disrespectful Conduct,” the Omanhene expressed displeasure with the way he was addressed in the invitation, arguing that the description, “The Chief, Agona Traditional Council,” failed to recognise his status as the Omanhene of the Agona Traditional Area.

He described the wording as a serious affront to his traditional position and authority, insisting that his installation had been completed through the requisite customary rites and ceremonies.

According to the chief, he swore an oath before Agona Amantuonson on June 4, 2026, and later before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on June 29, 2026. He also sat in state on July 2 and 3, offered his Aseda to the Asantehene on July 27, and celebrated his maiden Akwasidae and Big Akwasidae on July 19 and August 30, respectively.

Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II further noted that several public officials, including the Sekyere South Municipal Police Commander, the Municipal Director of Education and the Municipal Chief Executive, Evans Twumasi, had attended his traditional programmes and paid homage to him.

He accused the MP of failing to show similar recognition despite her periodic visits to Agona township.

“You, the Hon. Mavis Nkansah Boadu, is yet to show respect and reverence to me as the Omanhene of Agona Traditional Council Area, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II (and by extension the Otumfuo Asantehene) during your periodic visits to Agona Township,” the letter stated.

The Omanhene said the invitation had come as a surprise and described it as “an insult of the highest order.” He also questioned why the MP had invited him to an event being held under her patronage without, in his view, appropriately acknowledging his traditional status.

In response, he announced an immediate prohibition on social events organised by the MP anywhere within his traditional jurisdiction, explicitly including the football tournament scheduled for October 23.

“You are banned with immediate effect from holding any social event (particularly the Tournament in question scheduled for 23rd October, 2026) within my Traditional jurisdiction,” the letter directed.

The ban covers Agona, Bipoa, Wiamoase, Bedomase, Afamanaso, Akrofonso and Amponyinamoa.

“I will not allow any misconduct to undermine my authority and for that matter, Asanteman,” the Omanhene declared.
