Ghanaian media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has sparked public discussion after admitting that, with the benefit of hindsight, she might have made a different decision about having a child.
According to Nana Aba Anamoah, she had always wanted to have only one child, explaining that her decision was influenced by the kind of lifestyle she wants to lead and her desire to provide the best for her child.
Nana Aba admitted that, in retrospect, she sometimes wonders whether she would have made the same decision to become a parent.
She, however, revealed that she has no regrets about having only one child, saying she is now focused on enjoying her life and spending her money on herself after fulfilling her parental responsibilities.
Speaking on her show on Starr FM, Nana Aba stated, “I always wanted one child, and I know this may sound controversial, but I will always say that if I knew what I know now, I wouldn’t even have a child, but I am comfortable with one child”.
“I could have had a second, third, fourth, fifth child, but no, I don’t want that. I’m okay with one because I want to give that child the best of everything,” she stated.
Nana Aba further disclosed that she no longer pays school fees as she has shifted her attention to herself and is enjoying the rewards of her hard work.
She added, “At the moment I’m done paying school fees so the focus is on me. I’m enjoying my money”.
Nana Aba also cautioned Ghanaians against naming their children after her saying, “Don’t name your child after me because you think that I have the means to take care of your child”.
Some netizens reacting to Nana Aba’s comment stated, “What if the one child dies early? My grandmother had 7 kids; 4 are dead now, including my mom.
Who is the last to die at 44 years? The oldest died at 82 years this year, and my grandmother is still alive, and she lives with her daughter, who takes good care of her that why she is still alive”.
“See, parenting is not a joke, so I get the point she is coming from”, a netizen added.
One X user added, “Dem Dey expose dem selves gradually, all the money u made, and wait oo, isn’t it often the man’s responsibility to pay children’s bills? She should rather say that is what life gave her cos that son needs siblings to call family, esp when you’re not there anymore”.
A netizen argued, “Her life, her choice. Stop making her choice about Ghanaian women. She is a great woman and must be respected for her achievements. If you want to have 5 kids, please go ahead but allow her to speak her mind”.
One last X user added, “Last week it was Serwaa. This week it’s Nana Aba. Making awkward remarks.
Her child will be very disappointed with what she said.
If you learn how to speak at the right time with the right words, your credibility becomes stronger”.
