Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister, has sued New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team member Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, popularly known as Benghazi, over allegations involving Ghanaian musician Fantana.
In a writ of summons issued by the High Court of Justice in Accra on October 30, 2026, it names Gyewu-Appiah and Media General Ghana Limited, owners and operators of Onua FM and Onua TV, as defendants.
According to the writ, Benghazi was directed to enter an appearance within eight days of being served, including the day of service.
It further warns that failure to do so could result in judgment being entered against them in their absence.
Ablakwa’s suit stems from comments made by Benghazi during a discussion on Onua FM on October 14, 2026, when he referred to Fantana as Ablakwa’s girlfriend.
According to Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, Ablakwa has embezzled money meant for the evacuation of some Ghanaians from South Africa, spending it on Fantana.
Speaking on Onua FM, Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah alleged, saying, “What pains me is that he has given all the money he took to Fantana. Do you know his girl is Fantana? He has taken all the stolen money to Fantana”.
He further alleged that Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and his wife will go to jail.
“Ablakwa is a serious thief, and no matter what, he would go to jail. He and his wife will go to jail because his wife was the one who bought the tickets,” he alleged.
Also, Fantana had earlier threatened legal action against Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, following allegation level against her during a radio programme.
According to Fantana, the allegations made by Gyewu-Appiah are false, stressing he had no right to sit on the radio to spread lies.
“I’m going to sue you for lying on me!!!!! A bunch of old useless fools sitting on the radio spreading lies! God punish you, useless men!” Fantana stated.
The brouhaha stems from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) alleging that the Foreign Affairs Ministry under Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa inflated the charter flight for Ghanaian South African evacuees by $450,000.
According to the NPP, documents released by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa show that each of the three charter flights cost US$750,000, a total of US$2.25 million to airlift about 900 evacuees.
The NPP detailed that industry checks put the cost of chartering a comparable aircraft from Ethiopian Airlines or Air Tanzania at between US$180,000 and US$300,000 per flight.
The NPP argued that the cost of the three flights shouldn’t have been more than US$900,000.
