Watch Asiedu Nketia’s reaction after he was wrongly addressed as NPP’s National Chairman

NewsWatch Asiedu Nketia's reaction after he was wrongly addressed as NPP's National Chairman

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has hilariously accepted after being mistakenly referred to as the acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

During the final funeral rites of the acting national deputy security coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, a representative of the King of Mamprusi announced Asiedu Nketia as the NPP National Chairman.

Speaking at the final funeral rites, Asiedu Nketiah, although the Mamprusi king’s representative corrected his mistake, stated, “Let me gladly accept the honour conferred on me as the Acting National Chairman of NPP by His Majesty, the representative of the King of Mamprusi. He is our grandfather, so I cannot reject the title that is conferred on me.”

Asideu Nketia further took a jab at the NPP’s National Chairman, who he claimed has gone into hiding after the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

“It is fitting and proper because the NPP National Chairman comes from my place. We are brothers. Unfortunately, after their friendly defeat, he’s gone into hiding,” he remarked.

He added, “If there is somebody who should take care of his in his absence, I have accepted that responsibility. And so, my brothers (NPP), if you need any advice as to how to get out of your problems, you can come to your brother. I will be acting until my brother comes back to acting for the days or you find a fitting replacement,” he said to more laughter from the gathering.

Also, Asiedu Nketia at the event added that the NDC and government would have reversed the tragic August 6 helicopter crash if it were within their power.

He added, “If there was anything that the NDC, both in party and in government, could do to reverse this tragedy, it could have been done,” he stated. “But unfortunately, nothing we do can bring back Honourable Limuna.”

“What we must concentrate on is to make sure the family he left behind is catered for… That is why His Excellency the President directed the establishment of a fund to take care of the families of the victims of the August 6 disaster,” he added.

Meanwhile, the final six of the August 6  helicopter crash victims were laid to rest on August 15, 2025.
