The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, has issued a threat to Journalists who are criticising nurses unfairly following the Ridge Hospital incident.
According to the GRNMA Secretary, those Journalists criticising nurses have been marked and they are going to meet them at the hospital.
He noted that he intends to prove to them that they are professionals and do not intend to cause them harm.
Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, Dr Tenkorang-Twum said, “Those journalists, we have marked them. They will come and meet us in the hospital; I am serious about this. I said they will come and meet us in the hospital, and we will show them that we are professionals.
“They are in their offices saying all sorts of things they want, but when they come to us, we will prove to them in our consulting rooms that we are professionals”.
“Not that we will do them evil, but we will demonstrate that we are professionals. The nonsense they do on the radio, we won’t do the same, we will show them professionalism”, he added.
His remarks come following the bashing being levelled at some nurses and midwives, and also comments he made against the health minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following the Ridge Hospital brouhaha.
Dr David Tenkorang accused Ghana’s Health Minister of lacking education on the hospital’s triage system.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Dr David Tenkorang stated, “The most disgusting and infuriating thing is the second point; the minister should know that there are systems over there. If he doesn’t understand, he should get somebody to educate him on the triage system.
So, that statement does not make sense to me at all; it doesn’t make sense. Whoever wrote that statement doesn’t even understand the hospital system. Why? Is he a farmer? What kind of life is that?” he fumed.
Meanwhile, the Concerned Nurses and Midwifery Association of Ghana has also condemned Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, comments against the Health Minister.
According to the Concerned Nurses and Midwifery Association of Ghana, the GRNMA General Secretary’s comments are highly unacceptable and unbecoming a leader of his stature.
In a statement signed by the association’s President and secretary read, “We, the Concerned Nurses and Midwifery Association of Ghana wish to place on record our strong condemnation of the recent utterances made by the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum”.
“While we continue to stand firmly with our fellow nurses and midwives in their legitimate concerns and struggles, we find the language and description he used in reference to the Honourable Minister of Health to be highly unacceptable and unbecoming a leader of his stature. As a senior representative of the nursing profession, we believe Dr. Tenkorang-Twum should have exercised greater discretion, professionalism, and respect in his choice of words, regardless of any disagreement with government policy or actions”.
Also, the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) issued a 24-hour ultimatum for Dr David Tenkorang-Twum to retract and render an apology to all farmers.
On Friday, August 22, 2025, GNAFF, in a statement read, “GNAFF hereby serves notice to Dr David Tenkorang-Twum to, within 24 hours, retract his unfortunate remarks and render an unqualified apology to all farmers and fishermen across Ghana. Anything short of this will compel GNAFF to consider the appropriate steps necessary to defend the dignity and integrity of our hardworking members”.
“Farmers and fishermen have long been the backbone of Ghana’s economy, contributing immensely to the nation’s growth, food security, and economic survival. It is highly disheartening and unacceptable for such a venerable group to be subjected to public ridicule in this manner,” the statement added.
