Eric Edem Agbana, the member of parliament for Ketu North, has slammed the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr David Tenkorang-Twum.
According to Edem Agbana, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum is a loose cannon.
He noted that the GRNMA Secretary threatened journalists, saying, “We are marking them down and we will show them when they come to the hospital.”
The lawmaker asserted that Dr Tenkorang-Twum clearly threatened the Journalist and only sought to clarify his comments after the host alarmed and cautioned him.
In a Facebook post, Edem Agbana launched a scathing attack by saying, “The dumbest defence I’ve heard for the irresponsible and callous statement of Dr David Tenkorang-Twum is the excuse that he later added, “we will show them how professional we are.”
Cut the crap and credit us with some intelligence.
Go and watch the video again. The loose cannon, in an angry tone, clearly threatened journalists, saying “we are marking them down and we will show them when they come to the hospital.”
After the host got alarmed and cautioned him, he hurriedly added , “we will show them how professional we are.” That was nothing but an afterthought”.
The lawmaker added, “Nurses are expected to be professional at all times and must never discriminate in their line of duty. They are not supposed to “mark people down” before showing how professional they are. So stop those ridiculous explanations.
If a professional nurse, speaking on behalf of a reputable body like the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), can issue such reckless and irresponsible threats, then what guarantee is there that he will not actually carry them out on patients he has “marked down”?
In plain language, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum’s statement is a threat on the life of patients.
Today, I am waiting to see what the University of Ghana, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, and the Ghana Journalists Association will say about this callous statement”, his post concluded.
Edem Agbana’s post comes following Dr David Tenkorang-Twum issuing a threat to Journalists who are criticising nurses unfairly following the Ridge Hospital incident.
According to the GRNMA Secretary, those Journalists criticising nurses have been marked and they are going to meet them at the hospital.
He noted that he intends to prove to them that they are professionals and do not intend to cause them harm.
Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, Dr Tenkorang-Twum said, “Those journalists, we have marked them. They will come and meet us in the hospital; I am serious about this. I said they will come and meet us in the hospital, and we will show them that we are professionals.
“They are in their offices saying all sorts of things they want, but when they come to us, we will prove to them in our consulting rooms that we are professionals”.
“Not that we will do them evil, but we will demonstrate that we are professionals. The nonsense they do on the radio, we won’t do the same, we will show them professionalism”, he added.
His remarks come following the bashing being levelled at some nurses and midwives, and also comments he made against the health minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following the Ridge Hospital brouhaha.
Dr David Tenkorang accused Ghana’s Health Minister of lacking education on the hospital’s triage system.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Dr David Tenkorang stated, “The most disgusting and infuriating thing is the second point; the minister should know that there are systems over there. If he doesn’t understand, he should get somebody to educate him on the triage system.
So, that statement does not make sense to me at all; it doesn’t make sense. Whoever wrote that statement doesn’t even understand the hospital system. Why? Is he a farmer? What kind of life is that?” he fumed.
