Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has shockingly claimed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 election defeat reports show Alan Kyeremanten’s exit from the party caused the party’s defeat.
According to Solomon Owusu, pages 68 and 69 of the NPP’s 2024 election reports clearly link Alan Kyeremanten’s exit to the party’s defeat.
The leading member of the Movement for Change is quoted by GHOne TV to have said, “Pages 68 and 69 of NPP’s 2024 election defeat report clearly state that Alan Kyerematen’s exit caused the party’s loss in the 2024 elections”.
It will be recalled that Alan Kyerematen, an NPP bigwig, left the party after the NPP’s primaries defeat.
He left to form the Movement for Change to contest the 2024 general election as an independent candidate.
In related news, Solomon Owusu has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of wanting to use Alan supporters who return to the party for baboon’s work.
According to Solomon Owusu, despite the amnesty Movement for Change will not return to the NPP.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, Solomon Owusu stated, “We want to change the dynamics of our body politic so that when we say yes, it’s yes and when we say no, it’s no”.
He asked, “Between supporters of Alan Kyeremanten and the NPP, who must give the other amnesty? We are supposed to be giving them amnesty to even be talking to us”.
“Now, this whole release is also to tell Mr Alan Kyeremanten and his supporters that we only need your presence to come and do the baboon jobs in the NPP”, Solomon Owusu added.
Solomon Owusu’s comments come following the NPP’s granting all suspended party members general amnesty.
According to the NPP, the move is aimed at promoting unity and reconciliation.
The amnesty has been granted to all members suspended or who have pending disciplinary cases.
On August 16, 2025, in a statement signed by Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, the Acting National Chairman read, “I bring you warm greetings from the national secretariat of the party.
I write to inform you that the National Council, at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025, resolved in the interest of unity and reconciliation to grant a General Amnesty to all Party members who have been suspended or whose disciplinary cases are currently pending before the appropriate adjudicatory bodies.
We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members”, the statement noted.
The NPP’s acting chairman’s statement continued, “Members who have forfeited their membership are required to submit a formal application to he national secretariat for reinstatement. Upon reinstatement, you shall remain ineligible to contest any internal party election until a mandatory two-year period has elapsed.
This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead”.
The statement further added, “In view of this resolution, Party leadership at all levels is hereby strictly advised to refrain from any arbitrary suspension of members. All disciplinary matter must be handled solely in accordance with the procedures, principles, and due process provisions expressly enshrined in the Party’s constitution. The National Secretariat requests your full compliance with this directive.
We count on your continued cooperation”, the NPP statement concluded.
However, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the 2024 Communications Director of Dr Bawumia’s Campaign, Hopeson Adorye and other persons who left the party of their own accord must apply to become members again and added that not all who apply will be received back into the NPP.
According to Miracles Aboagye, Hopeson Adorye, and other NPP members who left the party to join the Movement for Change are not part of the NPP’s amnesty.
