Okyere Baafi disguise himself as a Taxi driver

Michael Okyere Baafi, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has disguised himself as a Taxi driver to hear the worries of his constituents.

In a viral video shared on social media, Michael Okyere Baafi was spotted driving through his constituency and picking up residents and engaging them in a conversation.

According to Michael Okyere Baafi, this move is to get first-hand information on how his constituents are doing.

Speaking during the video, the lawmaker stated, “Most of them didn’t even recognise me. Some only realised who I was at the end of the conversation. It gives me the chance to hear their real concerns without any filters.”

“This approach helps me know their problems firsthand and lobby the government to address them immediately,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, he intends to drive the taxi for 3 days and plans to make such engagements a regular feature of his constituency work.

However, some Ghanaians have reacted to the video saying, “the new tactics be that oooh make dem no talk say they only show up during election time”.

“He is in his second term, and he is now seeking to know the challenges of his constituents?”, a netizen wrote.

One more netizen added, “He Dey lie. He Dey lieee… he never do anything like this before. Ever! Ask anyone in Koftown if they know about this”.

Additionally, one more Ghanaian wrote, “We really need to put all politicians on one big spaceship and launch them into space . Such vile people”.

In related news, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asked Michael Okyere Baafi, what he is waiting for to honour his public promise of resigning as MP if the NDC wins the Akwatia by-election.

Speaking during his “Thank You Tour” of the Eastern Region, where he addressed NDC members, traditional leaders and residents in Koforidua, Asiedu Nketia stated, “Mr Michael Okyere Baafi boldly said he would resign if the NDC won the Akwatia by-election.

The NDC has won, so what is he waiting for? He should resign so that a by-election can be held in New Juaben South”.

It will be recalled, Michael Okyere Baafi made a bold declaration leading to the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.

According to Michael Okyere Baafi, he will resign as a member of the parliament if the NPP loses the Akwatia by-election.

The lawmaker is quoted by GHOne TV to have said, “If NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP, mark my words!”.

However, after the NPP’s defeat in the Akwatia by-election, Michael Okyere Baafi made a surprise turn and rendered an unqualified apology to all Ghanaians.

“I had no option but to encourage my people that we were winning this election, and that’s why I made the statement that if we lost, I would resign. I, however, apologise to Ghanaians for my resignation comment; I went too far,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Michael Okyere Baafi has revealed he would not seek re-election in 2028 for the New Juaben South seat.

The lawmaker alluded to the worrying state of Ghana’s politics as his main reason not to seek re-election in the 2028 elections.

Speaking in an interview on AsaasePa FM on September 2, 2025, Okyere Baafi stated, “If this is how our politics is turning, then the world is becoming scarier. That’s why some of us, and I, have said that after this term, I won’t seek re-election in 2028”.

He added, “We did all the work and campaigning, and we were confident of winning the election. But the NDC’s strategy was to buy votes. Almost every voter who wanted money was paid about GH¢500-1,000 by the NDC.

They distributed items such as hair dryers, spraying machines and other things. Given the work we put in, there was no way we should have lost. The NDC even had a table with thugs protecting the table, and not even the police could intervene”, he added.
