A netizen identified as Kwaku September has called out MTN Ghana over their you have one minute remaining prompt when one is out of airtime.
According to Kwaku September, he has been talking about this issue for a very long time.
He noted that MTN customers do not need a whole ‘soloku’ to remind them they are almost out of airtime.
The netizen recommended that MTN replace their voice prompt with a beep sound to let customers know they are out of airtime.
He further claimed he had a meeting with MTN about it, and they responded arrogantly, claiming there were more important things to worry about.
Speaking in a viral video, Kwaku September, “This video is for MTN to address minor concerns for us, the customers, who have been speaking about it for a while now, and I don’t know why they have turned a deaf ear to this.
I made a post where I told MTN Ghana that when there is one minute remaining, they spend about 30 seconds announcing it, and during the announcement, the other person’s voice goes completely off”.
He added, “During this voice prompt, which reminds us of the remaining minutes, it tells us to dial *506# to continue to purchase airtime during the call, but it still cuts off anyway”.
He further recounted some of the suggestions they gave MTN as customers: “Allow the airtime purchase during the call to roll over, and let the call continue seamlessly. Make the voice prompt shorter, so it does not consume most of the remaining time, and the best suggestion other people gave was just a beep sound”.
We don’t want a whole soloku, no, we don’t want that, and also when the beep sounds come on, you can actually bring a prompt”.
Kwaku September added, “They shouldn’t completely mute the call when they are giving the voice prompt. You should mute the other person’s voice, give a loud beep, so that we, the people speaking, will know that we have one minute remaining”.
The netizen further expressed frustration that all this was said, but to date all their proposal have been rejected.
He added that this will not cost a dime to make MTN customers happy.
His comments come following Sports journalist Saddick Adams, who also expressed the same concern by penning a letter to MTN Ghana about the same issue.
In a social media post, he wrote, “Dear MTN Ghana,
If I have one minute remaining, let me use it to finish saying what I want to say.
That “you can dial xabhdldkdkf” is needless. Esp on the radio
Don’t have to use one minute to remind me I have one minute remaining. I know how to recharge.
It’s irritating pleaaase!”
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted, saying, “@MTNGhana won’t listen ….
What all the network has to stop is when I’m on another call, they should not gossip to the caller that the receiver is on another call…. Just allow the call..”
“Another irritating one is when you check your airtime balance, they send you message about the same balance you checked. Sia ly sei”, a netizen stated.
One more netizen added, “At least as the prompt dey warn me, make I hear what the other person dey talk. Them go mute your call for 20 seconds for the one minute wey lef nu.@MTNGhana I’m talking to you”.
Additionally, a netizen added, “Finally, someone said this @MTNGhana ,,, is so needless and annoying,,, kindly cancel that useless reminder”
