The Founder of Citizen Eye Ghana, Alex Kwaku Tetteh, has alleged that the former National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) CEO, Abdul‑Wahab Hannan, was arrested for transferring funds to Bawumia’s personal account.

Speaking on the radio, Alex Kwaku Tetteh stated, “Ghana’s 60 million cedis is with Bawumia, Hannan Bawumia’s brother, the former Buffer stock CEO, when he was arrested by EOCO, during interrogation, looking at his books, the money he had transferred from his office, bank to Bawumia’s personal account is about 60 million Ghana cedi”.

He further called on President John Mahama to prosecute and jail all former appointees who looted the country’s resources in the last eight years.

“Tell John Mahama, if the dollar comes to 1 cedi, we will not be happy like arresting happy Dr Bawumia. Ghanaians are saying their interest is in the promise he made to us to arrest all those who looted state funds. Ghanaians voted for him with a margin of 1.7 and also gave him a third majority”.

It will be recalled, Abdul‑Wahab Hannan and his wife were arrested by EOCO on June 25 amid allegations of financial impropriety, including tax evasion, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.

Abdul‑Wahab Hannan was later given a GH¢50 million bail with two sureties, while his wife previously secured bail of GH¢30 million.

Also, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the former Member of Parliament for Sekondi and former Minister for Tourism, has told President John Mahama, Ghanaians are waiting for the $21 billion he promised to recover through the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer questioned the feasibility of the Mahama government’s claim that it can recover $21 billion from stolen state assets.

According to Andrew Egyapa Mercer, most of the alleged funds have already been disbursed and spent, which will make recovery difficult.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Mr Mercer argued, “We were told that some $100 million or $80 million has been spent and that they were going to recover that money from the project. How are you going to do it? Contractors have been paid, people have worked and received remuneration. You tell Ghanaians that you were going to recover the money — how are you going to do it?” he asked.

“$21 billion is big — that Mr Mahama promised through his (ORAL) committee that we are going to recover for Ghana. We are waiting for them to recover it. The Big push is only $10 billion, and you have $20 billion,” he remarked.

Also, Kofi Bentil, a private legal practitioner, has said that the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) was overhyped and it is under-delivering.

According to Kofi Bentil, despite his criticism of ORAL performance, he maintains his support for the overall goal of fighting corruption.

Speaking on The Key Points on TV3, Saturday, September 27, Kofi Bentil stated, “ORAL was overhyped and it is under-delivering. But I support the call to fight corruption”.

Meanwhile, Daniel Domelevo, the former Auditor-General and a member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, in his earlier interview with KSM, fumed over the lack of loot recovered so far in the nine months of the John Mahama government.

Domelevo described the Attorney General’s procedure in the ORAL cases as snail speed.

According to Daniel Domelevo, nine months is not a small thing.

He emphasised that before Ghanaians realised that President John Mahama would be done with the quarter.

The former Auditor-General noted that culprits and their lawyers are praying for a change in government.
