“I don’t understand the MP” – Prof Azar fires Asutifi North MP with 10 questions on attack on NAIMOS

News“I don’t understand the MP” – Prof Azar fires Asutifi North MP with 10 questions on attack on NAIMOS

Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, also known as Kwaku Azar, a renowned US-based Ghanaian lawyer and scholar, has punched holes in the statement of the Asutifi North MP Ebenezer Kwaku Addo following the attack on a NAIMOS team.

According to Kwaku Azar, the MP claims he only intervened after calling his colleague, MP for the area, Collins Dauda, was problematic.

He highlighted that he does not understand why the MP will call Hon Collins Dauda, who was outside the country, instead of the District Commander or Operation Commander.

Prof Azar detailed that a single act sums up everything wrong with the MP’s statement; he labelled it as blurred roles, political shortcuts, and unanswered questions.

In a Facebook post he quizzed, “Here are the top ten issues that still hang in the air:

1. Who authorised the MP to visit a military operation zone and act on behalf of another MP?

2. Why call an MP abroad instead of contacting the district or military commander in charge of the operation?

3. What exactly was the MP’s role at the scene — observer, mediator, or participant?

4. When did the MP arrive and when did he leave, and who can confirm his timeline?

5. Who were the “youth” the MP met, and how did they know to expect him?

6. What does the MP mean by saying the military’s pickup was “tampered with”? Did he see the tampering? Who did it? If not, how did he conclude that it was tampered with?

7. Why were soldiers transported in the Zongo Chief’s private vehicle instead of calling for backup?

8. Who smashed that vehicle, and did you witness the attack? What do you mean by the glass was smashed, by then you had left?

9. Did you enter the restricted mining area, and if so, on whose authority?

10. Why didn’t the MP coordinate with NAIMOS, the police, or the regional security command if your goal was to “maintain calm”?

“When MPs insert themselves into live security operations, confusion follows and discipline suffers. In Hwidiem, the public deserves clear answers, not cloudy statements”, he added.

Meanwhile, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, has broken his silence regarding the confrontation between some residents and members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force.

According to him, under no circumstances will he incite the youth against security officers and any government-planned agenda.

“I wish to state that under no circumstances will I incite the youth against security officers and any government-planned agenda.

As a responsible lawmaker, I offered my support to ensure there is calmness in the area and will always work together with every security agency to maintain law and order”, he added.

Meanwhile, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to take over the probe involving the attempted mob attack on the Director of Operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and his team.

According to the Police statement, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, the Member of Parliament for the Asutifi North Constituency, has been invited to assist with the probe.
