Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has donated GH¢100,000 to support the medical treatment of victims injured in the El-Wak Stadium stampede.

Speaker Bagbin, accompanied by the leadership of Parliament, visited the victims at the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday.

He commiserates with the injured and their families.

According to him, his gesture was to help alleviate the financial burden on the victims.

He further expressed grave concern about the recurring challenges associated with public sector recruitment exercises.

Speaker Bagbin highlighted the need for urgent reforms to make the process safer and more efficient.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the suspension of its military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

The exercise has been suspended until further notice.

According to GAF, the decision was taken to ensure the safety and proper coordination of the recruitment process.

Also, President John Mahama has paid a visit to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra following the tragic stampede on Wednesday, November 12.

President Mahama was accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Cassiel Ato Forson, Felix Kwakye and other government officials.

Mahama visited the 37 Military Hospital to obtain further information regarding the tragic stampede.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed six people have died in the ongoing military recruitment at the El-Wak Stadium.

Reports suggest the chaos occurred around 6:20 a.m. when applicants breached security protocols.

According to GAF, 28 people were taken to the 37 Military Hospital.

They further revealed that six people have died, with five in the ICU and another 12 in critical condition.

Also, John Dramani Mahama, speaking at the gathering at the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Initiative, has said all six victims in the GAF recruitment tragedy were female.

President Mahama stated, “a heartbreaking loss for the entire nation. The tragic news is that I have been informed by the military that six young women, who simply sought an opportunity to serve their nation, lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident. We are praying for the 12 others who remain in critical condition”.
