“The fact that you marry a pregnant woman doesn’t mean the child is yours” – NPP MP to NDC over economy

News“The fact that you marry a pregnant woman doesn’t mean the child is yours” – NPP MP to NDC over economy

Dr Stephen Amoah, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has boldly claimed that the NDC government is benefiting from the prudent economic management under the former Akufo-Addo government.

According to Stephen Amoah, who used pregnancy as an example, he cited that someone can impregnate another, but that does not mean the child is yours if you marry that person.

He added that the NDC government have done virtually nothing about the economy and is just reaping the reward from the foundation laid by the former  Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking to the media before the 2026 budget reading, Dr Stephen Amoah stated, “Last quarter of 2024, the NPP government was able to restore the economy to the extent that we are benefiting from that. It’s a process. Is just like, sorry to say, pregnancy? Somebody can impregnate another person. If you marry the person and the person gives birth, it doesn’t mean that that person is your child. I don’t know if you understand what I’m saying.

You need DNA to confirm 100%. You need that thing to check whether it is true or not. But what I’m trying to say, the NDC government has done nothing wrong or bad”.

He further added, “What we are experiencing today is a result of the prudent economic management of the previous administration. And here in this house, please, I know your outfit is one of the best, even in Africa.

Go and get the last budget statement that Ato Forson presented. Open primary macro indicators. Check how the economy was performing and find out whether the NDC government has added even one or two to it, no”.

In a separate interview, Dr Amoah stated, “The economy is doing well, but the NDC government and this whole executive body have done virtually nothing about the economy. They haven’t done anything. What have they done?”.

“They are not underperforming their benchmark, but they are still in the preparatory stage. You can’t use six months just to turn things around. I’m not saying they are not doing well or they are doing well, but they should be honest with Ghanaians”.

“The performance of the economy today has virtually nothing to do with the NDC government. What we’re experiencing today is as a result of the prudent economic management of the previous administration,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, has boldly declared that Ghana is back and open for business.

According to Ato Forson, the turnaround within 10 months of the Mahama administration is due to the resilience Ghanaian people and the government’s leadership.

The Finance Minister boldly told international partners and investors that Ghana has regained its economic stability.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, Dr Ato Forson stated, “To our international partners and investors, Ghana is back, strong, credible, and open for business. The story of Ghana is no longer one of crisis but of recovery and renewal”.

“The reforms we have undertaken are not quick fixes; they are the foundations of a resilient, competitive, and inclusive economy.”

He further recounted that the Mahama administration inherited a deeply distressed economy, “Ghana was indeed at the bottom of the abyss, a nation in distress with its economy bleeding and its people weary, yet yearning for leadership with the courage and vision to rebuild,”.

“Barely a year ago, our economy was uncertain. Today, the cedi in your pocket is stronger, prices are stabilising, and new opportunities are emerging across agriculture, industry, and technology,” he said.

Ato Forson added, “This progress is the fruit of sacrifice and discipline. Ghanaians tightened their belts, businesses adapted, and government stayed the course”.
