An Accra Circuit Court has remanded 110 alleged QNET victims for illegally entering Ghana.
The group, arrested during a recent security operation, is expected to return to court on December 2 and 3 for further proceedings.
In a viral video shared on X, the 110 alleged QNET victims were seen leaving the Circuit Court after their remand.
Some netizens reacting to the video stated, “A tough situation, but a necessary one. These QNET cases keep exposing how vulnerable people are to shady recruitment schemes.
Hopefully, this pushes for stricter cross-border checks and stronger protection to prevent more people from getting trapped in situations like this”.
“10 victims remanded? This QNET issue has moved from fraud to a full humanitarian crisis. Instead of locking them up, Ghana needs a coordinated regional response that targets the syndicate heads, not the desperate people they lure”, another X user added.
One X user alleged, “I strongly believe some of our leaders enjoy shares in this QNET sc@m…
Cox, I always get pissed off as to why they can’t deploy security services to apprehend them”.
In related news, EOCO has arrested 320 people in Kumasi in what it calls Ghana’s largest anti-human trafficking and QNET fraud operation to date.
The suspects are believed to be part of a network involved in fraud and human trafficking under the guise of QNET business activities.
According to the EOCO statement, initial assessments indicate that 25 of the 320 individuals are potential suspects, while the remaining 295 are deemed to be victims of human trafficking.
EOCO statement read, “The Economic and Organised Crime Office (E0CO) is pleased to announce a major breakthrough in its efforts to combat human trafficking and economic crime in Ghana.
Today, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of EOCO carried out two simultaneous operations at two locations, resulting in the arrest of 320 individuals.
Initial assessments indicate that 25 of the 320 individuals are potential suspects, while the remaining 295 are deemed to be victims of human trafficking, and employment seems penetrated under the guise of ONET”.
It further added, “The operations are a result of meticulous investigations conducted by E0CO over several months, demonstrating our commitment to detecting. Investigating and prosecuting economic and organised crime. The suspects and victims are currently undergoing screening, and the 25 suspects will be subject to further investigations. This operation marks the largest anti-human trafficking operation in the country, following an earlier raid two weeks ago that led to the arrest of over 26 persons in Kasoa.
EOCO is working closely with QNET to clamp down on the misuse of their brand name to traffic and defraud innocent individuals. We commend the collaborative efforts of QNET in this regard and look forward to continued cooperation to bring perpetrators to justice”.
EOCO further assured the public of its continued commitment to fighting economic and organised crime.
