Watch as NPP supporters storm EOCO, demanding the release of Ex-BOST MD after 8 days in custody

NewsWatch as NPP supporters storm EOCO, demanding the release of Ex-BOST MD after 8 days in custody

Some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have stormed EOCO headquarters, gathering there to demand the release of former BOST Managing Director, Edwin Provencal.

During the supporters’ protest, one boldly lamented, “Ghana is not for you alone, it’s for all of us. You sent him to court, the court granted him bail, yet you’re still holding him”.

Another NPP supporter added, “He is still at EOCO, and the court is waiting for his release, but EOCO is still keeping him there.”

Another added, “…You have given him charges nobody understands. We have done everything you asked. The court has granted him bail, now bring him to court, and you are refusing.”

The NPP supporters arrived in the early hours of Wednesday and expressed optimism that he would be released.

Yesterday, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the Accra Human Rights Court reduced Provencal’s bail conditions from ¢60 million bail sum to GH¢30 million with two sureties.

Lawyer for embattled former Managing Director Charles Okyere made this known.

He revealed his client’s arrest has to do with allegations of causing financial loss and stressed there is no evidence of wrongdoing on Provencal’s part.

“EOCO is purportedly investigating him for causing financial loss. It’s a very detailed matter. The supposed financial loss itself has not even occurred. There’s no loss at the moment. So, you cannot be investigating somebody or charging somebody for a crime that has not been committed,” he said.

Edwin Provencal was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on November 10, 2025, after allegedly attempting to travel abroad despite being on a stop list.

Edwin Provencal is currently in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for further investigations.

The former BOST CEO was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) while attempting to board a flight out of the country.

Mr Provencal is on EOCO a stop list as part of ongoing investigations into activities that occurred during his tenure as the CEO of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).

Edwin Provencal was apprehended on Monday, November 10 and has since spent 8 days in EOCO custody.

Reports suggest he was arrested in an attempt to flee while en route to Maputo, Mozambique, without securing the necessary authorisation.

Edwin Provencal’s arrest comes amid an intensified inquiry into BOST’s operations, with the government emphasising accountability and transparency in state-owned enterprises.

As CEO of BOST Provencal oversaw key aspects of Ghana’s fuel supply and storage infrastructure.

EOCO sources further suggested that officials intercepted him to ensure that the ongoing probe was not compromised.

However, EOCO did not provide additional details on the nature of the investigation.
