Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia, the Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, has said the operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) will be reviewed.

According to Ms Mawuenyefia, the Lands minister has stated the need to reassess NAIMOS’s mode of operations following the tragic accident.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, November 20, Ms Mawuenyefia stated, “The Minister has mentioned that we are going to look at it. We are going to review. For now, the cause is an accident; we do not suspect any foul play.

Today, when the Minister met with the team, he mentioned that we probably need to review the modus operandi, so that is going to be done,” she stated.

Her comments come following the NAIMOS team’s involvement in a tragic accident on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

According to reports, one military officer has been confirmed dead, with two policemen and an immigration officer in critical condition following the tragic accident.

The tragic accident occurred in the late hours of Wednesday when the team was heading to Obuasi after an operation at a concession in Anyankyerim.

Eyewitnesses revealed that NAIMOS vehicles somersaulted between the Anyankyerim community and the Airport Road.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, confirming the news, took to his social media post on X and stated, “I have received a briefing on the tragic accident involving members of the NAIMOS Task Force in the Obuasi Municipality. The incident has resulted in the unfortunate loss of one life, while three others have sustained severe injuries.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult moment. Their loss is a loss to the region, and we stand with them in prayer and solidarity”.

His post added, “I also wish the injured officers a swift and complete recovery. The Regional Security Council and the Obuasi Municipal authorities are coordinating with the appropriate agencies to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical attention.

The matter is being investigated to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to guide the necessary interventions. The safety and well-being of all personnel engaged in national assignments remain a priority, and every effort will be made to prevent similar occurrences.

The Ashanti Region stands united in support of the affected officers, their families, and the entire NAIMOS team”.

Meanwhile, the four other officers involved in the accident were initially treated at the Obuasi Government Hospital before being transferred to the Anglogold Obuasi Hospital for further treatment.
