Presidency did not engineer petitions against Special Prosecutor and EC officials – Kwakye Ofosu

NewsPresidency did not engineer petitions against Special Prosecutor and EC officials - Kwakye Ofosu

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications, has debunked claims that the Presidency engineered the ten petitions seeking the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies.

Kwakye Ofosu challenged critics who are suggesting the Mahama government in the involvement in the petitions to produce evidence.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu noted that neither the content nor the initiation of the petitions originated from the presidency.

Speaking on Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Monday, 1 December 2025, he stated, “The critics would have to show evidence of the cooking and the eating [fabrication], wouldn’t they?”

“There’s no basis for manipulation, there’s no room for manoeuvring or any form of manipulation from the executive whatsoever. The committee will be formed by the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and not the President [John Dramani Mahama],” he said.

Also, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed that the petition to remove the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, her deputies and the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng now rests with the Chief Justice.

According to Kwakye Ofosu, the process has left the hands of President John Dramani Mahama, adding that he believes Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will act in accordance with Ghanaian law.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu is quoted by Joy News to have said, “Every process that is needed to be done has been undertaken. The process for doing so is quite clear. At this stage, the process has left the hands of the president beyond conveying the petitions to the Chief Justice.

There’s little else that the president does in this particular instance. Everything now rests with the Chief Justice, who, I believe, will act in accordance with Ghanaian law”.

The report revealed that President Mahama received 10 petitions for the removal of two heads of public institutions and two deputies appointed under Article 70 of the Constitution.

A news flyer by JoyNews, which was shared on social media, revealed that the two institutions are the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

The Joynews flyer read, “President Mahama refers seven petitions seeking the removal of Jean Menas and her two deputies, and three petitions for the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to the Chief Justice”.

Meanwhile, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, the former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, has alleged that the Presidency is against the ten petitions seeking the removal of Jean Mensa and the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

According to Kissi Adomako, the Mahama government orchestrated the 10 petitions.

The former MP highlighted that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in opposition promised to remove the Electoral Commission leadership, and they are keeping to their word.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, December 2, Dr Adomako Kissi stated, “I must commend the NDC for keeping to their word; they are doing exactly as they promised that when they come, they will remove the EC”.

Dr Adomako Kissi also took a swipe at the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, accusing him of misleading the public.

“I have every right to tell Felix that he did well lying to Ghanaians that the Executive has nothing to do with the petition,” he remarked.
