Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South MP and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) blew Ghc38 million on the Akwatia by-election.

The lawmaker claimed the NDC-led government blew Ghc38 million under the pretext of security spending by the National Security and the Ghana Police Service.

Rev Ntim Fordjour further quizzed the NDC government on whether the GHC38 million spent on the Akwatia by-election could be the reason behind their greedy appetite for a by-election in Kpandai.

He boldly quizzed whether the NDC are looking for another opportunity to blow 38 million.

In a social media post on X, Rev Ntim Fordjour claimed, “NDC blew Ghc38 million on Akwatia by-election under the pretext of security spending by National Security and Ghana Police Service. Could 38million chop chop be the motivation behind their incessant greedy appetite to forcibly conduct a by-election in Kpandai?

Are they looking for another opportunity to blow 38 million?”

Some netizens reacting to Rev Ntim Fordjour’s claims stated, “Mere allegations. No documents. No official reports. That’s the same story you cooked up about the cocaine, whatever. If you wanna take up this Okudzeto job, you’d better start being good at it. Cos at this time, you’re just joking”.

“The NDC wasted GH¢38m on Akwatia, and now they’re drooling for a Kpandai by-election. Same trick, same chop-money. They just want another GH¢38m to chew”, a netizen added.

“Honestly, if the NDC has to drop 38 million cedis per seat just to sweep the last NPP remnants out of parliament, the whole country would probably pass them the collection bowl. At that point, it wouldn’t just be money well spent. It’d be a national investment in peace of mind”.

One more netizen added, “How true is this? The NPP MP for Assin South alleged that the NDC government spent GH¢38 million on the September 2025 Akwatia by-election. There is no official confirmation of this amount. A security analyst, however, estimated that deploying 5,500 security personnel could cost up to GH¢96 million.

The MP connected his claim to the upcoming court-ordered Kpandai by-election, announced after the 2024 results were annulled”.

Meanwhile, Rev Ntim Fordjour remarks follows Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Clerk to Parliament, formally notification to the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the membership of Parliament for the Kpandai Constituency.

This follows the High Court ordering a re-run of the 2024 Parliamentary Elections in that area within 30 days.

It will be recalled that the Tamale High Court, on November 24, 2025, ordered the rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election within 30 days.

According to the High Court, the Electoral Commission has within 30 days from today to conduct the rerun.

His Lordship Emmanuel Brew Plange made this declaration following the legal challenge of the 2024 parliamentary election by the former Member of Parliament (MP) and the NDC, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.

The Parliamentary Service formally notified the Electoral Commission on 4th December 2025, which initiated the administrative process required to organise a re-run to fill the vacant seat.

The Clerk to Parliament letter was addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa.

According to the Clerk to Parliament the action was taken “In exercise of the power conferred and the duty imposed on the Clerk to Parliament by Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, I hereby formally notify you of the occurrence of a vacancy in the membership of Parliament, occasioned by the Order of the High Court, Tamale, for a rerun of the Kpandai Parliamentary Elections, given on November 24, 2025.”

“Occasioned by the Order of the High Court, Tamale, for a re-run of the Kpandai Parliamentary Elections, given on the 24th day of November, 2025”.
