The Northern Regional Police Command Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has arrested two nurses and a security guard linked to a newborn baby theft in Tamale.
According to reports, the three people were picked up at the One Heart Hospital in Tamale in connection with the theft of a newborn baby.
Reports suggest that the three were arrested on Sunday, December 21.
The two nurses have been identified as Abubakari Fatima Bintu, Grace Asiedu Mensah and Abukari Iddi, the security guard.
The police preliminary investigations revealed a woman who posed as a nurse entered the labour ward and told staff she was taking the newborn to administer an injection, leaving the ward with the baby and did not return.
Abdul Mumin Safiyatu, the baby’s mother, told reporters she had stepped out briefly to use the washroom. When she returned, she could not find her baby.
Also, Bawa Sayibu, the baby’s father, stated, “I was sitting with my colleagues when my sister called me crying and asked me to rush to the hospital”.
“When I arrived, I was told the baby had been stolen.”
Some residents of Lamashegu, after the theft, besieged the hospital, demanding accountability and calling for stronger measures to protect patients and their families at the One Heart Hospital.
Meanwhile, Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, has stated that operations are ongoing to locate the missing baby and arrest other suspects.
He further added that the Northern Regional Police is taking the baby theft very serious.
In related crime news, three people have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following a viral video of a toddler being fed an alcoholic beverage.
The Ghana Police, in a statement, revealed the arrest took place on Saturday, December 20, 2025, following an intensive intelligence-led operation.
According to the Police statement, the incident is said to have happened in Kede in the Eastern Region, which ignited widespread outrage across social media platforms.
The three individuals arrested have been identified as Stephen Amoako (22), Identified as the father of the two-year-old victim. Tawiah Precious (18): Known by the alias “T’ Moni” and Emmanuel Dadzie (24): Also known as “Shapiro”.
The three suspects are currently in the Police custody to be arraigned before the court.
The Police statement read, “The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with a viral video showing a two-year-old child being given an alcoholic beverage at Kade in the Eastern Region.
The suspects, Tawiah Precious, alias T’ Moni, aged 18, Emmanuel Dadzie, alias Shapiro, aged 24, and Stephen Amoako, aged 22, who is the father of the child, were arrested on Saturday, 20th December 2025, by officers of the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team at Okumani, a suburb of Kade, following sustained intelligence-led operations.
The two-year-old victim has been rescued and handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Asamankese for protection, pending reunification with the mother.
All three suspects are in custody and will be put before the court. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to locate and arrest two other suspects, Afram Bright, alias Mogabe and Panyin, who are currently at large.
