Ablakwa’s letter on Venezuela President’s abduction raises suspicions of Russia supporting Mahama – NPP Man

NewsAblakwa’s letter on Venezuela President's abduction raises suspicions of Russia supporting Mahama – NPP Man

Awal Mohammed, a member of the NPP communications team, has criticised the Minister of Foreign Affairs for speaking out against the abduction of the President of Venezuela by the U.S. military.

According to Awal Mohammed, the Foreign Affairs Minister should have remained neutral in his statement.

He pointed out that Okudzeto Ablakwa taking sides has confirmed the NPP’s suspicions that Russia supported the NDC and President Mahama in winning the elections.

Speaking on JoyNews, Awal Mohammed stated, “He should have condemned it, and left it as such, doing what South Africa did. South Africa said the Security Council will have to meet and take a decision, this is what they wrote.

A lot of the countries have really written this, but if you go… it tells us that indeed our suspicion that Russia supported President Mahama to win this election”.

Don’t discount that, because in July, the only country President Mahama visited before the elections was Russia and when he entered Russia, Daily Graphic reported that he was in Russia, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said he was in Russia to translate his book into the Russian language. The book he wrote in 2012, after twelve years, is now that he is going there to do that.

His comments follow, the  Government of Ghana, through the Foreign Affairs Ministry, condemns the unilateral invasion of the Republic of Venezuela and the capture of its President, Nicolas Maduro, by the United States of America.

According to the government of Ghana, the incident was a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, January 4, 2026 also condemned President Trump’s recent comments of sending US oil companies into the country and running things until such time as the US deems it appropriate to handover power, as reminiscent of the colonial and imperialist era.

In light of this, Ghana has urged the immediate release of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, and demands a de-escalation of the situation, as the precedent undermines the world order, the principle of sovereignty and territorial independence.

Parts of the statement read, “The Government of the Republic of Ghana is alarmed at the unilateral and unauthorised invasion of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela by the United States of America”

“These declarations are reminiscent of the colonial and imperialist era and should have no place in the modern global order,” the government warned.

“The Government of Ghana calls for immediate de-escalation and the release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife,” the statement added.
