Dominic Frimpong, the Berekum Chelsea forward, has been confirmed dead after he was shot in a violent attack on the club’s team bus on Sunday evening, April 12, 2026.
The team bus of Berekum Chelsea, a Ghana Premier League team, was attacked by armed robbers at Ayeresu while travelling along the Goaso road.
Reports suggest the team bus was forced to stop following a road block by the attackers between Bibiani and a nearby town known as “B-Town.”
In a post shared on social media, Berekum Chelsea FC narrated, “On our way back to Berekum from Samreboi, our team bus was attacked by a group of armed robbers who blocked the road to prevent our passage.
Masked men welding auns and assault rifles started shooting at our bus as the driver tried to reverse. The players and staff fled into nearby bushes to take cover.
Unfortunately, one of our players is badly injured and is receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital, waiting to be transferred to the regional hospital.
We are grateful to the police patrol team for its rapid response. sports journalists who quickly decimated the information, the town of Ashiresu, which provided temporary shelter for our players and officials of Bibian Gold Stars, who have offered tremendous support
We are also grateful to all well-wishers, and last but not least, the President of the Ghana Football Association, for his prompt response in this difficult moment.

Berekum Chelsea have confirmed the tragic death of forward Dominic Frimpong.
Reports suggest Frimpong, 20, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A netizen in a post on X wrote, “Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong has been confirmed dead after being shot in the head by armed robbers.
Frimpong joins the club from Aduana Stars in the second transfer window, may his soul rest in perfect peace”.
Frimpong joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, a move set to run until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The late Frimpong had contributed two goals in 13 appearances before his untimely death.
