Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister, has announced that Ghana’s senior female team the Black Queens are safe and in good health while in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE has been in close contact with the Black Queens.

In a social media post on Sunday, March 1, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa wrote, “Ghana’s celebrated Black Queens are safe and doing well.

I have spoken with the leadership of the team.

Our diplomatic mission in the UAE has been in close contact with the Black Queens, extending much-needed consular support.

In this turbulent moment, the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians, particularly those currently in the Middle East, remains our utmost priority”.

Ablakwa’s post comes on the heels of reports that the Black Queens have been stranded in the UAE amid Iran-Isael conflict.

The Black Queens are currently in Dubai for the Pink Ladies’ Cup, a four-nation tournament.

Reports suggest the Black Queens came under Iranian missile attacks targeting US military bases, with some hotels and sections of the airport said to have been impacted.

“We have all finished packing and are awaiting further communication from the officials.”

“The irony is that while we are packed and ready to leave, more people are trooping into the hotel. The lobby is crowded,” a quote by Joy Sports stated.

Meanwhile, reports by the BBC detailed that one person has been killed and 11 injured at airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi following Iran’s launch of attacks across the Middle East in response to a massive and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

The BBB report stated, “Authorities in Abu Dhabi confirmed a drone targeting Zayed International Airport (AUH) was intercepted, leading to “falling debris”, killing one person and injuring seven.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) – the world’s busiest by passenger traffic – was damaged in an “incident” that injured four staff, according to authorities.

Thousands of flights have been grounded to and from the region, in one of the most serious disruptions to global travel since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Retaliatory strikes from Iran continued on Sunday with explosions heard in Doha, Dubai and Manama.

Iran has used ballistic missiles and drones to launch wide-scale attacks on US allies and assets across the Gulf, after its supreme leader was killed in the ongoing US-Israel air offensive launched on Saturday morning.

Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait – all home to US military bases – said they had intercepted missiles fired towards them, but falling debris appeared to have caused widespread damage”.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of Ghana in Doha, Qatar, has issued an advisory warning to Ghanaian nationals in Qatar amid heightened tensions in the region.

Citizens resident in Doha and other cities in Qatar are urged to seek shelter, remain indoors and avoid areas in close proximity to military sites.

On February 28, 2026, in an official release, the Ghana Embassy in Doha cited a missile attack and its impact in Doha as the basis for the alert.

Part of the statement read, “Due to missile attack and its impact in Doha, please take shelter until further notice, obtain information from official sources”.

The Embassy, in its release, stressed that Ghanaians must stay away from military sites, remain indoors, and avoid crowded areas.

They further encourage Ghanian nationals to keep essential supplies, including medication and food, readily available.
