Mahama’s ‘side chick’ comment wrong – Sammi Awuku

0

Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, weigh in on the ongoing public reaction over President John Dramani Mahama’sside chick” comment.

According to Sammi Awuku, the issue surrounding Mahama’s remark is more about where it was made.

It will be recalled, President John Dramani Mahama got the crowd roaring with laughter at the Kwahu Business Forum as he described what he said is how government contract payments boost the economy.

He highlighted that government contract payments boost the economy, usually through the contractors’ side chicks.

Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum on March 4, 2026, the president said, “When the contractors get paid, they go and buy a Land Cruiser for themselves, and car dealers also benefit. And even their spouses, their wives, and their side chicks also benefit,” he said.

“It’s painful, Christ’s birthplace is now an epicentre of war. President Mahama went further, explaining that once the side chicks are sorted out, they too become economic boosters in their own right.

“When the spouses and the side chicks too get, hairdressers get, dressmakers get, jewellery shops get, handbags sellers get. So, don’t discount that one at all,” Mahama added, drawing laughter from the audience.

However, Sammi Awuku suggested that while the comment may have been intended in a light-hearted or informal way, it did not suit the setting.

He argued that comments of that nature are typically reserved for private or informal conversations, not public platforms where the President’s words carry significant meaning.

Sammi Awuku noted that every statement made by a sitting President is often interpreted as an official position.

He highlighted that the matter should not be seen as a personal attack but rather as a question of appropriateness and responsibility, especially given the influence that comes with the highest office in the land.

“In all fairness, the ‘side chick’ comment was a boys-boys remark, but it was made on the wrong platform,” he stated.

In related news, A video has surfaced of a man staging a protest during President John Dramani Mahama’s keynote address during the Kwahu Business Forum.

In the viral video, the man staged a protest with a placard during the Kwahu Business Forum as John Dramani Mahama delivered his keynote address.

The man was captured on camera displaying a message that read, “Dear Prez Mahama, please intervene. ADB Bank has failed to honour its commitment to me.”

In the viral video, a police officer was initially seen engaging him, but the protester remained unmoved, holding up his placard.

President Mahama later acknowledged the situation, calling on someone to read the placard as he could not see what was written.

Mahama, during his speech, stated, “Can somebody read what is on that placard there? I can’t see what he has written. Somebody is raising a placard. I think he wants to draw my attention to something”.

“Ghana is a land of free speech, and I’m sure he has some beef with somebody. So, whoever he has an beef with, I beg you, go ahead and engage him.”

The man with the placard was later calmly escorted out of the venue to address the matter.

Global oil prices drop as Trump agrees to a two-week ceasefire

0

The Global oil prices have plummeted on Tuesday after President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran.

The two-week ceasefire has spurred hopes that more oil tankers would be able to transit the key Strait of Hormuz soon.

Reports suggest that U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran less than two hours before his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating attacks on its civilian infrastructure.

The Reuters report read, “Oil fell below $100 per barrel on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump said he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, subject to the immediate and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Brent fell $14.84, or 13.6%, to $94.43 a barrel, and WTI slid $16.13, or 14.3%, to $96.82 a barrel as of 0023 GMT.

Trump’s turnaround came shortly before his deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, where 20% of the world’s oil transits, or face widespread attacks on its civilian infrastructure.

“This will be a double-sided ceasefire!” he wrote on social media, after posting earlier on Tuesday that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” if his demands were not met.

Iran said it would halt its attacks if attacks against it stopped and that safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz would be possible for two weeks in coordination with Iranian armed forces, according to a statement by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Wednesday.

However, multiple Gulf states have identified missile launches and drone attacks or issued warnings to civilians to take shelter.

“Even with ‌a peace deal, Iran may be emboldened to threaten the Strait of Hormuz more frequently in the future, and the market will price in heightened risk to the Strait of Hormuz going forward,” MST Marquee analyst Saul Kavonic said.

The U.S.-Israeli war with Iran saw the steepest monthly oil price rise in history in March of more than 50%.

Trump said the U.S. had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he called a workable basis to negotiate, and said the parties were very far along on reaching a definitive agreement for long-term peace.

“It’s a good start and could pave the way to a more permanent reopening – but lots of ifs still to work out,” IG analyst Tony Sycamore said.

WTI has maintained its price premium over Brent, reversing typical price patterns, due to its May delivery contract, while Brent is for June, reflecting that barrels with an earlier delivery date are commanding a higher price”.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has warned that the escalating conflict in the Middle East could have serious economic consequences for Africa.

According to John Mahama, hostilities involving the United States, Israel, and Iran would hurt African economies.

Mahama argued that the Middle East is the epicentre of global oil supplies, adding that African economies must brace for inevitable shocks.

President Mahama made this known while speaking during a bilateral meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the State House in Arusha on March 2, 2026.

He expressed alarm over the intensifying exchanges between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, as well as the counter-attacks, stressing that the tensions would trigger the rise of crude oil prices, which would impact African countries.

“This bill must be passed, otherwise I will not return to parliament” – NDC MP on Anti-LGBT bill

0

Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West, has issued a bold ultimatum regarding the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the Anti-LGBT bill.

According to Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, a co-sponsor of the Anti-LGBT bill, the bill must be passed into law, or else he will not return to parliament.

In a post shared by TV3 on X, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah is quoted to have said, “This bill must be passed, otherwise I will not return to parliament.”

Last year, the NDC MP made a similar declaration vowing not to return to Parliament if the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill (anti-LGBTQ bill) is not assented to.

According to the Ho West MP, he has a moral principle for the next generation’s unborn.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on October 29, 2025, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah stated, “If it’s not assented to, I will not come back to Parliament again. This is a live studio, and I’m saying it. I’ve even told my colleagues and everybody that if it’s not passed and assented to, I’ll not come back. What do I come to do? If I don’t have a moral principle for my generation’s unborn, then what am I doing?”

“That is my whole life. We must defend our principles. Some of us are in Parliament not just for politics but for the moral and social advancement of this country,” he indicated.

He asked, “He has never come to us as sponsors to propose any amendment or even hold discussions on it. I’m surprised that the same person now stands in Parliament advocating for the bill. What kind of double tongue is this?”

“We meet as eight members to agree on how to go about this business. When he brought those amendments, he lost miserably,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has told President John Dramani Mahama to render an apology to the clergy, clerics and traditional leaders for his unfulfilled LGBTQ Bill promise.

John Ntim Fordjour, speaking on behalf of the NPP, highlighted that during the 2024 election campaign, Mahama, in opposition, assured religious leaders and key stakeholders that his administration would introduce a government-sponsored bill to broadly address LGBTQ issues in Ghana.

The MP highlighted that the expectation of Ghanaians remains unchanged, adding that the campaign promises must be honoured regardless.

Also, John Ntim Fordjour has told President John Dramani Mahama that Ghana’s basic needs have not changed since 2024.

According to John Ntim Fordjour, President Mahama must be held to account to fulfil his promise.

He further alleged that attempts are being made to introduce LGBTQ-related concepts into Ghana’s Constitution through the ongoing constitutional review process.

The Assin South MP highlighted that pages 107 and 108 of the Constitutional Review Committee’s report open the door for the recognition of LGBTQ concepts within Ghana’s constitution.

He alleged that such provisions, when adopted, could significantly affect Ghana’s moral and cultural values.

Speaking during a press conference at the NPP headquarters on Tuesday, April 7, Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, stated, “Ghana’s basic needs have not changed since 2024, and so the president must therefore be made to fulfil his promise to introduce a government-sponsored bill, which he promised the clergy to comprehensively address LGBTQ issues if made president.

“He willingly made those promises, and he must be held to account and be made to fulfil his promises.

“President Mahama must render an apology to the clergy, clerics and traditional leaders. He must apologise to the Christian Council, Bishops’ Conference, GPCC and all other religious leaders for the double standards demonstrated between the period in opposition and now in power.”

His comments come on the heels of President John Dramani Mahama’s statement that Ghana is still grappling with the provisions of basic needs of education, health care, jobs, food, clothing, and shelter, which is his government’s main focus and not the Anti-LGBTQ Bill.

According to John Mahama, the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, while important, is not Ghana’s most urgent concern at this time.

Speaking during a Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society Organisations at Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, March 30, Mahama stated, “We are still grappling with the provisions of basic needs of education, health care, jobs, food, clothing, and shelter”.

“While there are strong and differing views within our society, we believe that issues must be addressed through democratic processes, our core values, dialogue, and the rule of law,” he said.

“Many within NDC feel I have not been treated well” – Isaac Adongo

0

Isaac Adongo, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, has said some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) believe he has not been treated well.

According to Isaac Adongo, many heads of government agencies who are NDC members feel he has been unfairly treated; as a result, they respond to his requests with urgency.

He further disclosed that while most NDC MPs struggle to secure funding for projects in their constituency, as Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament, his portfolio gives him leverage to get what he wants for his constituents.

Speaking in an interview on Dreamz FM in Bolgatanga, Isaac Adongo explained, “Let me tell you something, the honest truth is that where I sit, there are a lot of agency heads who are NDC and feel that I have not been treated well. So, when I go to them to ask for support, they are willing to do even more because they know the value I brought to NDC”.

“And some of them do not have the patience to wait, like the way I am waiting, and they feel that I should have been in there even by now. So, if I go to them to say I want aid, if they are capable of doing it, they are in a hurry to do it. Besides, I am the Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament. That is a very big portfolio in Parliament, and it influences a lot of things. It gives me leverage to get what I want for my constituents.

“It is not for nothing. Check, since we came, how many MPs have been able to secure funding to build one brand-new school in their constituency across the country? But I secured one within eight months of NDC being in power,” he added.

It will be recalled that supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) had earlier urged President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider his decision to overlook Isaac Adongo in his ministerial appointments.

They argued that the exclusion from a ministerial position could result in significant backlash against the party in future elections within the constituency.

Their remarks followed the announcement of Mr Adongo’s appointment to the Board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

In related news, Isaac Adongo, the Chairman of the Finance Committee, has said that if the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, stays on his current path, he does not see the next president going beyond him.

According to Isaac Adongo, Ato Forson will win the next election for the NDC if he keeps focus as he had started.

Speaking on GHOne, Isaac Adongo explained, “Privately, I told him (Ato Forson). I said if you continue on the path that you are continuing, I don’t see the next president beyond you. I told him personally because he has done the things that he has done in this short period, and don’t forget that he has the full backing of His Excellency [Mahama].

“If you have a finance minister who doesn’t have the backing of the president, he will be a failure because there are certain difficult decisions that you take that even your colleagues are not comfortable with, but that is what is required to swallow the bitter pill and heal”.

He continued, “I’m not by this saying that Ato Forson wants to contest for president, but it is just to let him understand how I situate the work that he has done. He’s a young man; I don’t think he may even be having that contemplation.

But just to let him understand that we are sitting back, we are impressed with the work that he’s done and that he should keep the focus. And if he keeps the focus, he will win the next election for the NDC. There’s no two ways about that. And I do believe that his biggest strength was placing Ghana first,” he explained.

Isaac Adongo further revealed, “Yesterday, we looked at a couple of agreements that were signed before he came. Agreements that required parliamentary approval under Article 181 (5) were not brought; required approval under the public financial management at Section 33, they were not brought; tax exemptions that were over-bloated, but he was able, with his team, to renegotiate and give Ghanaians $9 million of benefits, lower than what he came to inherit.

“But also said, ‘Look, this thing requires the approval of the people of Ghana. So, I’m going back to Parliament. I want to be transparent. I want the people of Ghana to give me the mandate to implement the agreement that I have renegotiated. ’ That financial governance mentality will go down as one of his best.”

“We need our money back, we can’t be patient” – Prophet Kofi Oduro chases Mahama

0

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the Founder and leader of Alabaster International Ministries (Alabaster House Chapel), has told President John Dramani Mahama that Ghanaians need their money back as they can no longer be patient with the government Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL).

Speaking to his congregation, Prophet Kofi Oduro opened up about who he voted for in the 2024 election, detailing that President Mahama was the best choice in the 2024 election due to his promises and policy direction.

According to the man of God, President Mahama’s promise to recover all loot in opposition was one of the reasons why he supported and voted for him.

Prophet Kofi Oduro is quoted to have said, “In your campaign message…the reason I voted for you is LGBTQI that you’ll pass legislation. Number 2 is ORAL; we need our money back, we can’t be patient, your excellency”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed his government is exploring the possibility of engaging private legal firms to assist in ORAL cases.

Mahama detailed that his government is exploring engaging private legal firms to assist in docket preparation for ORAL cases.

In a new card shared by GHOne TV, read, “We’re exploring the possibility of engaging private legal firms to assist in docket preparation for ORAL cases, so they can be sent to court”.

Also, Mahama has detailed that he understands that the majority of Ghanaians are impatient about the NDC government ORAL but argued that painstaking investigations must be conducted, dockets must be prepared.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, President John Mahama detailed, “Mr Speaker, the Government remains resolute that corruption will not be tolerated, regardless of status or political affiliation. The Attorney General’s Office will continue to use both criminal prosecution and non-conviction-based asset recovery mechanisms to ensure that stolen public resources are returned for national development.

I understand that a large majority of Ghanaians are impatient to see those who abused their trust in office held to account.

There were periods when, under military regimes and unconstitutional governments, extrajudicial means could be used to exact retribution against persons perceived as corrupt or who had abused the public trust”.

He added, “This may have appeared as swift justice, but many regrettable excesses were recorded. In 1992, we overwhelmingly adopted the 1992 constitution to accept governance by the rule of law.

On 7th January 2025, I swore before the people of Ghana to uphold the 1992 Constitution. I may be as impatient as everyone else to see justice done, but painstaking investigations must be conducted, dockets must be prepared, charges must be filed, and the accused must have their day in court, including appealing even the smallest points of law to higher courts.

This process is necessary to protect us all against abuse or ill-treatment of citizens and to ensure that only those guilty of offences against the state are punished”.

Meanwhile, Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says a total of GHC1.5bn in assets has been frozen as ORAL investigations continue.

Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that the frozen assets include individuals involved in 280 ORAL cases under investigation.

“There’s a huge disappointment out there; NDC will be shocked” – Afenyo-Markin

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has said there is a huge disappointment among Ghanaians towards the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The minority leader predicted that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be shocked if elections were conducted today.

According to Afenyo-Markin, Ghanaians are highly disappointed in the John Mahama-led NDC government.

He predicted that if an election were held today, the NDC would be shocked as they would meet with a worse defeat than the NPP suffered in the 2024 elections.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on April 6, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Listen, the way world politics is going, if you don’t domesticate, you collapse. And NDC should not take things for granted. There’s a huge disappointment out there. They will be shocked if elections are held today. What happened to us in 2024, theirs will be worse”.

“I wish them well, though, because if the country succeeds, all of us will benefit. So I’m not looking at it from a political lens, but from the national interest,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin further raised an alarm about government contracting; he alleged that key state contracts are being awarded to foreign entities at the expense of local businesses.

He alleged, “Look, when this government came into office, I won’t list them, but go to Parliament, look at the order papers. The juiciest contracts are going to foreigners. I won’t mention them now… but look at the order papers from day one”.

“No one has said anything, and nobody sees anything wrong. I am not saying that a Ghanaian business must not be subjected to scrutiny, but it is quite concerning that when a Ghanaian business is succeeding, we are up in arms against how it’s succeeding. So we have to look at it properly,” he indicated.

Afenyo-Markin further called on President Mahama to push for a more balanced allocation of contracts by favouring indigenous companies.

He added, “Mr President is exiting. I would beg of you: look critically at every single contract that goes out there and at least make sure, if not all, it should be 50-50. Mr President must be deliberate. Get all the ministers to be deliberate”.

“And it’s not just being a Ghanaian company, but an indigenously owned Ghanaian company. You can have a Ghanaian company that is foreign-owned. By the way, I’m not against a foreigner investing in Ghana. I’m also not against foreign investment in Ghana. I’m not anti-foreign investor, but I’m saying that, contemporaneously, we must grow our own,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Dr Johnson Asiama, the Bank of Ghana Governor, has admitted that stability is good, but people are hungry.

The BoG Governor detailed that there is unemployment everywhere.

Dr Johnson Asiama further linked the unemployment crisis to the performance of banks.

He revealed that the central bank is focused on stabilising the banking sector to enable lower interest rates for businesses, aimed at boosting growth and job creation.

The BoG Governor also highlight that the high interest rates are killing businesses.

According to Dr Johnson Asiama, the BoG is working to bring down the high interest rates.

He quizzed how businesses borrow money above 30% interest rate, how do you expect that business to repay?

Speaking in a video shared on April 5, 2026, the Governor explained, “Stability is good, but people are hungry. There’s unemployment everywhere. So, the next step is to strengthen the markets.

“Our focus currently is to engineer a low-interest environment and a stable exchange environment”, he said.

“If a business borrows money at above 30%, how do you expect that business to repay? Interest rates are 30%, what are you going to use the money for?” he questioned.

“It’s not surprising there’s a lot of unemployment. It’s not surprising the private sector is still really under pressure”, he said.

Mahama must apologise to the clergy, clerics and traditional leaders – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has told President John Dramani Mahama to render an apology to the clergy, clerics and traditional leaders for his unfulfilled LGBTQ Bill promise.

Meanwhile, Adams Sukparu, the Member of Parliament for Sisala West, has vowed to resign from parliament should President John Dramani Mahama fail to sign the  anti-LGBTQI+ bill when passed by parliament.

According to Sisala West MP, John Dramani Mahama, is a principled person and can assure Ghanaians that if the bill is passed, and after three days, Mahama fails to assent to it, the president can be held accountable.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One Television, Adams Sukparu stated, “The John Dramani Mahama I know is a principled person, and I can assure you that if the bill is passed and in three days the president does not sign it, then you can hold him accountable.

I can tell you that if the bill is passed and President Mahama does not sign it, I will resign as a member of parliament”, he vowed.

Tall list of RNAQ properties, business surface after giving ex-wife and 3 children GHS300k alimony

The ex-wife of Ghanaian businessman Richard Nii Armah-Quaye, commonly known as RNAQ, Mrs Joana Quaye, has been offered GHC300,000 as financial provision and a paltry GHC5000 a month as upkeep of all her three children.

The information gathered suggests that RNAQ has been locked up in a bitter divorce case with Joana Quaye for the past four years.

The High Court presided over by Justice Kofi Dorgu on 20th January, 2026, in his final orders despite evidence showing that Richard Nii Armah Quaye established his famous company, Quick Credit & Investment Micro-Credit Limited (renamed Bills Micro Credit Limited) with Joana Quaye as shareholders, out of which RNAQ built his wealth and established numerous other companies, the judge granted to the wife only one-third share of a house at Dansoman, GHC300,000 as financial provision and GHC5,000 to be paid by RNAQ each month for the upkeep of all the three children.

RNAQ has been in the news lately after he revealed that his wealth is so large that he can’t even spend 2% of it.

According to Richard Nii Armah Quaye, he used to spend about 20% of his income, and now he cannot even he used to spend about 20% of his wealth.

Speaking in a video shared on X, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, while delivering a speech, stated, “As you continue to grow, your income begins to increase, so the 20% will also continue to increase for you. As I speak to you now, I am still spending below 20% of my income”.

“In fact, looking at where I am in life and where I started, I was around the 20% mark. But as you move forward and your worth becomes bigger, now I take about 2% of my worth, and I can’t even spend it,” he added.

Last year, 2025,   Richard Nii Armah-Quaye threw a lavish birthday party, which caught the attention of Ghanaians and the World.

Reports suggested his attire alone exceeded $350,000, including a Richard Mille Declutachable Rose Gold watch valued at over $323,000. Sources indicate his suit cost $10,000, shoes $2,000, and stylist fees $4,000.2

In 2026, he marked his birthday with a large-scale gold tablet giveaway, selecting 1,000 followers to receive the investment asset.

Mrs Joana Quaye has since hired former Attorney General Godfred Dame to appeal against a rather strange judgment of the High Court in Accra.

The High Court granted Mrs Joana Quaye only GHC300,000 out of the well-known vast fortune she built with the rich businessman.

Mrs Quaye cited that all the properties owned by RNAQ, including houses at Trassacco Estate, East Legon and other rich neighbourhoods in Accra, a Rolls-Royce car, Bentley, Range Rover and other luxurious vehicles and companies were all acquired by RNAQ after their.

Joana Quaye has since hired prominent Accra-based law firm, Dame & Partners, as her new lawyers to pursue an appeal against the award following the court orders in what she described as “being given a raw deal”.

The new lawyers in a notice of appeal filed at the Court of Appeal Registry on 1st April, 2026, contend that that the final orders issued by Justice Dorgu are “inconsistent with the principles and framework governing the identification and equitable distribution of marital property upon the dissolution of marriage enshrined in the Constitution and laws of Ghana, and affirmed by the Supreme Court of Ghana”.

They further assert that the trial judge committed a fundamental error of law by failing to recognise that all the immovable and movable properties claimed by the respondent, including shares in companies, were acquired during the subsistence of the marriage and thus constitute marital property to be distributed equitably between the parties. They also say that the position of Ghanaian law is that all property acquired during the subsistence of any marriage is marital property that must be distributed equitably.

Other grounds of appeal filed by Messrs. Dame & Partners on behalf of RNAQ’s wife are that the trial court erred in not lifting the veil of incorporation in Quick Credit & Investment Micro-Credit Limited (renamed Bills Micro Credit Limited) and other related and affiliated companies, despite clear and compelling evidence that the parties jointly established the initial company, which served as the financial and operational foundation for the Respondent’s subsequent business ventures.

Following news of the RNAQ, a long list of businesses has surfaced after giving ex-wife and 3 children GHS300k alimony.

RNAQ luxury car collection includes high-end vehicles such as a Red Ferrari, an Orange Lamborghini, Black Brabus G-Wagon, and a Black Range Rover

Richard Quaye quashed that with the acquisition of a private jet and a Bugatti Chiron.

Quaye, on his 40th birthday on Friday, March 21, 2025, announced the purchase of a Bugatti Chiron Sport; the estimated cost was around $3 million.

Ghana’s basic needs have not changed since 2024 – Ntim Fordjour tackles Mahama

0

John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South and sponsor of the anti-LGBT bill, speaking on behalf of the Minority, has told President John Dramani Mahama that Ghana’s basic needs have not changed since 2024.

Speaking at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters on behalf of the Minority, John Ntim Fordjour stated, “These recommendations, if adopted, could open the door for the recognition of LGBTQ concepts within our constitutional framework,” he said.

“This is not just a legal matter; it is an issue that goes to the heart of our values as a nation. Embedding such provisions in the Constitution will have far-reaching consequences for our moral and cultural identity,” he added.

He further added, “We were made to understand that this bill would be treated as a priority if they came into office. What we are seeing now is a clear shift, and it amounts to a betrayal of the trust reposed in them by religious and traditional leaders”.

“Ghana’s basic needs have not changed since 2024, and ladies and gentlemen of the press, you will agree with us on that. The President is therefore expected to fulfil his promise to introduce his government-sponsored bill, which he promised the clergy and religious leaders to comprehensively address the LGBTQ issues. He made those promises willingly; he must be held to account and be made to fulfil his promise,” he stated.

Attempts being made to smuggle LGBTQ-related concepts into Ghana’s Constitution – Minority alleges

Earlier, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, fired shots at President John Dramani Mahama over his recent comments on the passage of the anti LGBTQ+ bill.

According to Rev John Ntim Fordjour, President Mahama and the NDC have relegated LGBTQ concerns to the bottom of their priority list after deceiving Pastors, Muslim Clerics, Traditional Rulers and the entire country.

In a post shared on his X page on March 31, 2026, Ntim Fordjour wrote, “Unbelievable! Where are the Ecumenical bodies and CSOs who spat fire and brimstone in 2024 over LGBTQ issues against President Akufo-Addo?

President Mahama and the NDC have relegated LGBTQ concerns to the bottom of their priority list after deceiving Pastors, Muslim Clerics, Traditional Rulers and the entire country into thinking they (Mahama, NDC) would preserve our values against LGBTQ when power is entrusted to them.

Today, he is distancing himself from the bill and claiming it’s no longer important.

After winning power and distributing LGBTQ teacher manuals to schools, he thinks our values no longer matter.

This indeed is another Mahama scam”.

His comments come on the heels of President John Dramani Mahama’s statement that Ghana is still grappling with the provisions of basic needs of education, health care, jobs, food, clothing, and shelter, which is his government’s main focus and not the Anti-LGBTQ Bill.

RNAQ’s ex-wife offered a PALTRY GHC5k a month in final divorce settlement after 16 years of marriage with 3 kids

0

The ex-wife of Ghanaian businessman Richard Nii Armah-Quaye, commonly known as RNAQ, Mrs Joana Quaye, has been offered a paltry GHC5000 a month as upkeep of all her three children.

RNAQ was in the news lately after he revealed that his wealth is so large that he can’t even spend 2% of it.

Last year,  Richard Nii Armah-Quaye threw a lavish birthday party, which caught the attention of Ghanaians and the World.

The lawyers have also challenged the award of one-third of the “Dansoman House”, GHC300,000 as financial relief and GHC5,000 per month for the maintenance of three children of the marriage, as “manifestly inadequate, inequitable and unfair”.

Mrs. Quaye seeks from the Court of Appeal two orders from the Court of Appeal which are “an order setting aside the final orders of the judgment dated 20th January, 2026” and “an order granting to her an equitable share of all assets (immovable and movable) acquired during the subsistence of the marriage to RNAQ, including his shares and beneficial interests in all companies set up after the parties got married”.

RNAQ lives in a Trassacco Estates house acquired during his marriage to Joana Quaye with Ghanaian socialite, Mona Montrage, popularly known as Hajia For Real, with their child, who is enjoying all the luxuries alone.

“Gov’t juiciest contracts going to foreigners” – Afenyo-Markin blows alarm

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has blown an alarm alleging that the Mahama-led government has been awarding juiciest contracts to foreign entities rather than the indigenous Ghanaian companies.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the Mahama government must prioritise local businesses instead of foreigners.

The minority leader questioned the pattern of contract allocations, adding that a review of parliamentary records details how some of the most lucrative state contracts are being handed to foreign firms.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on April 6, 2026, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin said, “Look, when this government came into office, I won’t list them, but go to Parliament, look at the order paper. The juiciest contracts are going to foreigners. I won’t mention now… but look at the order papers from day one”.

“No one has said anything, and nobody sees anything wrong. I am not saying that a Ghanaian business must not be subjected to any scrutiny, but it is quite concerning that when a Ghanaian business is succeeding, we are up in arms against how it’s succeeding. So, we have to look at it properly,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin added, “Mr President, I would beg of you, look critically at every single contract that gets out there and at least make sure, if not all, it should be 50-50. Mr President, we must be deliberate. Get all the ministers to be deliberate”.

“And it’s not just being a Ghanaian company, but an indigenous-owned Ghanaian company. You can have a Ghanaian company, foreign-owned. By the way, I’m not against a foreigner investing in Ghana. I am also not against foreign investment in Ghana. I am not anti-foreign investor, but what I’m saying is that we must grow our own,” he clarified.

In related news, the Roads Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has rejected the claims made by the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah.

According to Sulemana Braimah, some companies awarded sole-sourced contracts under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme have insignificant staff.

Sulemana Braimah detailed that documents provided by the Ministry of Roads and Highways show that one of the companies awarded sole-sourced Big Push contracts has four workers; another has one worker.

Sulemana Braimah detailed that the company with just one worker was awarded the Big Push sole-sourced contract worth GHS146million.

Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, 28 March, Sulemana Braimah stated, “One of the companies awarded sole-sourced Big Push contracts has four workers; another has one worker.”

“This is Senam Ghana, they have four workers, sole-sourced for a big push contract, we are told no wheelbarrows. There is even one here that says one worker. This is Build Managers Limited. It is here in the contract that your ministry has signed, they are doing a contract worth GHS 146 million. There is even a lot about this contract, the 146 million, 30 million is allocated for the maintenance of the department of feeder Roads headquarters”.

He explained that the figures were obtained directly from the Ministry’s Big Push Master Register.

Sulemana Braimah further detailed that the recent report by The Fourth Estate, a project of MFWA, which highlighted concerns over sole-sourced contracts, was based on official records from the road ministry after they initially requested access to the documents under the Right to Information Act, but were denied, which led to an appeal to obtain them.

However, the roads minister, in a sharp rebuttal on X, has told Ghanaians to disregard the disinformation.

According to the Roads Minister, no contractor in Ghana has only one staff member, disclosing that the names of contractors mentioned have contractors with many active staff working on site currently.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Fellow Countrymen and Women, what we do at the Ministry of Road and Highways is largely engineering. Don’t be misled by anyone with a hidden motive. No contractor in Ghana has only one staff. I am told someone mentioned the name of a firm called Sanam (4 workers per SSNIT clearance) and Build Managers (1 worker). These are contractors with many active staff working on-site currently. Disregard the disinformation”.

Sam George’s SIM re-registration vindicated

0

Sam George, the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has been vindicated following the Supreme Court finding Vodafone Ghana liable for privacy breach.

The Supreme Court, in a majority decision of 4 – 1, held that Vodafone Ghana Limited breached the data privacy rights of its customer, Elorm Kwami Gorni.

Elorm Kwami Gorni’s Ghana Card details were used to register another person’s MoMo account.

The Law Platform providing more details stated, “The Supreme Court in a majority decision of 4 – 1, Dzamefe dissenting, has held that Vodafone Ghana Limited breached the data privacy rights of their customer, Elorm Kwami Gorni, Appellant in the case, by allowing the registration and the mobile money wallet operation of a number unknown to the Appellant using the Ghana Card details of Elorm Gorni without his consent.

In the well-researched and reasoned majority decision of the Supreme Court through the voice of the Professor of Law, H/L Justice Prof. Mensa-Bonsu, the court made a discussion of the Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) by reliance on the two famous Supreme Court cases on privacy rights, MRS ABENA POKUAA ACKAH v. AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT BANK [TLP-SC-2017-58]; RAPHAEL CUBAGEE v. MICHAEL YEBOAH ASARE & 2 ORS [TLP-SC-2018-13] and the persuasive force of the data privacy right case of Justice Noah Adade v. Bolt Ghana Limited & Bolt Holdings OU

The discussion of the Court, which suffered a dissent from Senyo Dzamefe JSC, also relied on scholarly material, including that of Francisca Kusi-Appiah: ‘Consumer Rights and Justice in Ghana: A Legal Compass’, K-App Law, Accra, Ghana 2025, pp 123. 262 and p.419. and James Whisker, Mark Eshwar Lokanan, “Anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing threats posed by mobile Money.”, in Journal of Money Laundering Control, https://doi.org/10.1108/JMLC-10-2017-0061.

The Court, in the voice of Kulendi JSC, who offered a concurring opinion to the erudite opinion of Justice Mensa-Bonsu, held that “15. In my considered opinion, the failure of the 1st Respondent to ensure the effective implementation of such basic verification measures at the initial stage of the registration exercise constituted a clear dereliction of the Respondent’s statutory obligations and effectively created the conditions under which the Appellant’s personal data could be misused, ultimately resulting in the unauthorized activation of a mobile money account in the Appellant’s name, which by all standards, amounted to an invasion of his privacy under Article 18 of the Constitution.”

The Law Platform added, “The Court thus granted the 1st and 2nd reliefs of the Plaintiff/Appellant/Appellant and awarded nominal damages of GH¢10,000 despite being alarmed by the possibility of the misuse of the identity details of the Appellant and the existence and risk of money laundering activities through such misuse of data.

Prof Mensa-Bonsu delivered herself on the alarming nature of the possibility of identity misuse as follows: “It should thus be a matter of alarm if someone with access to another’s personal documentation could use it to register his or her own or even a third person’s internet identity without the owner’s consent or authorisation.”

The news comes at a time when Sam Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has disclosed that the planned SIM registration will be rolled out in the third quarter of 2026.

It will be recalled that Sam Nartey George ruled out automatic migration of existing SIM data into the new system, announcing that the upcoming SIM registration will be Ghana’s first with a proper biometric registration.

According to Sam George, the new SIM registration is intended to correct flaws from the old registration.

The sector minister is quoted by a GHOne news flyer to have said, “This will be the first time in Ghana’s history that we will have a proper biometric SIM registration”.

Also, Sam George assured Ghanaians that the upcoming SIM registration exercise will be the last.

According to him, the government rolls out a robust, technology-driven system designed to enhance convenience and eliminate fraud.

Speaking to stakeholders about the planned exercise, Sam George stated, “The fact that you have multi-agency collaboration on this is something that you didn’t see in previous times.

You have the NIA (National Identification Authority) being our single source of truth when it comes to IDs, the NCA (National Communications Authority), the ministry, Immigration Service, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other agencies all working together.

“What you see today is the product of very hard and difficult conversations, and that gives me the confidence that if we execute this right, this will be the final SIM registration exercise,” Mr George explained.

“This registration is 75 per cent communication and 25 per cent technology,” he said

He further ruled out automatic migration of existing SIM data into the new system saying, “You are not cleaning up. You are actually migrating the viruses.

You have infected files, and you are migrating them onto a new system.

You are basically replicating the problems of the old system.

And that’s part of the reason why we can’t do a wholesale migration. And that’s cured today by NIA’s solution that they are offering to us based on the collaboration we are having with them,” he said.

Abu Trica should be tried here in Ghana – Law lecturer argues

0

A law lecturer at KAAF University, Lawyer Raymond Bidemah, has boldly stated that Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, should be tried here in Ghana.

The Law lecturer questioned Ghana’s growing trend of quickly handing over citizens for trial abroad.

He cited examples from other countries where nationals are often not easily released for foreign prosecution, arguing that Ghana should equally show the same firmness.

According to the Law lecturer, if evidence exists against Abu Trica, Ghana courts are capable of hearing the case and applying the law.

Speaking on Kessben TV/radio, Lawyer Raymond Bidemah stated, “We need to make it known to other countries that we are sovereign”.

“If the alleged act was committed while he was in Ghana and within our jurisdiction, then he should be tried here first.”

Meanwhile, the partner of Abu Trica has been captured in a viral video, making an emotional plea to the government, calling for his release.

Abu Trica is facing a possible extradition to the US over a romance scam.

The partner of Abu Trica in the video expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for the support since his arrest.

Speaking in the video, the partner of Abu Trica stated, “I want to thank all Ghanaians for their support since day one. I hope my message reaches the president and the appropriate authorities”.

If Abu has committed any wrongdoing or caused harm to anyone, we sincerely ask for forgiveness,” she appealed.

She added, “At this point, the extradition process has become overwhelming for us. I have a young child, and the past four months have been extremely stressful”.

“We feel helpless. I may not be able to say everything, but I humbly appeal to Ghanaians to have mercy on us and forgive us,” she appealed.

Her comments follow Abu Trica, who is set to be extradited to the US to face his $8 million romance scam, after the Gbese District Court granted a request to surrender.

Reports suggest that Abu Trica and his legal team have been granted 15 days to challenge the decision.

According to this, the extradition process will not take place until the expiration of the 15 days allowed for a habeas corpus application.

However, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the lawyer for embattled Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has detailed how a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent set up his client.

According to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him, saying that he was expecting some 50,000 dollars.

He alleged that the FBI informant asked Abu Trica to help find a bank account for them to transfer the money into, where he would receive 13,000 dollars if he found an account.

Watch how Julius Debrah quickly shut down individuals referring to him as “incoming President”

0

A viral video has surfaced on social media, with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah quickly shutting down some individuals referring to him as “incoming President”.

Reports suggest the video was from the 2026 Kwahu Business Forum, which was held from April 3 to April 5, 2026.

In the viral video, some attendees of the event were referring to him as the “incoming president”. While he was walking towards his vehicle.

Julius Debrah quickly shut down individuals, warning them with his index finger, showing he was completely unhappy about the suggestions that he was nursing presidential ambitions.

Some netizens reacting to the development stated, “It’s like no other tribe deserves to be president apart from the Akyems and the Northerners. Instead of fulfilling their mandates, they are thinking of becoming president.  The NDC will never be hijacked like the NPP. Never!”.

A netizen added, “Honestly, I pray he runs for president one day. He is such a fine and intelligent gentleman”.

“At least one politician still gets it. The way some would have soaked that title like sponge eh”, one X user added.

However, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, has taken a commanding lead in the NDC flagbearer race to succeed President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the latest poll by Global Info Analytics, Dr Ato Forson has taken an early lead in the NDC flagbearer race.

In the poll shared by Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, 32 per cent of voters prefer Dr Ato Forson as the presidential candidate of the NDC ahead of the 2028 general election.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, is the finance minister’s closest contender, with 25 per cent.

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, received 23 per cent of voters saying he should represent the NDC in the 2028 presidential elections.

However, Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman received 14 per cent of the votes, with only 5 per cent of voters saying they preferred other candidates.

In a post shared by Mussa Dankwah on X, he wrote, “Dr Ato Forson takes the lead in the NDC race, Asiedu Nketia gains, but Haruna Iddrisu slips to 3rd position with Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang in distance 4th according to the March 2026 National Tracking poll by @GlobaInfoPolls”.

Also, the Global Info Analytics also shared a head-to-head race with Dr Ato Forson leading in a head-to-head against Asiedu Nketia and also Haruna Iddrisu.

However, an earlier survey by Global InfoAnalytics had revealed that Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, is still in the lead as the preferred candidate to succeed President John Mahama for the NDC.

The Global InfoAnalytics poll shows Haruna Iddrisu in a lead with 29.8 per cent, while NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia secured 24.1%, and Finance Minister Ato Forson, who garnered 18.4% support.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah is also in fourth with 10.3%, while Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa came fifth with 8.1%.

Other contenders Eric Opoku recorded 2.5%, Prof. Joshua Alabi 2.2%, and Armah Kofi-Buah 2.0%.

Kwame Awuah Darko (1.6%), Spio Garbrah (1.1%), and Okoe Vanderpuye (0.1%)  were at the bottom of the poll as the least preferred candidates to succeed John Mahama.

‘I voted for you because of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill’ – Prophet Kofi Oduro tells Mahama

0

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the Founder and leader of the Alabaster International Ministries, has told President John Dramani Mahama he voted for him because he assured the clergy he was going to pass and assent to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

According to Prophet Kofi Oduro, he was part of the pastors who made a case for the bill to be signed by the president, but they did not achieve their aim, and were given the assurance that the new regime would address the issues.

The man of God added that if they have to march to the Jubilee House to scream or yell, they will do that, adding that a sin is a sin, righteousness is righteousness, disorder is disorder, and abomination is abomination.

Speaking to his congregants on April 5, 2026, the outspoken preacher stated, “Four weeks ago, at Alabaster City at the F5 service, I looked in the camera and told the Jubilee House even before our president went on his trip, and I said no matter who is in government, LGBTQ+ will never be accepted in our country. I don’t care who is in the Jubilee House”.

“That particular bill, during His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, we screamed on this altar, and we told the Jubilee House, Ghana will never be an LGBTQ+ nation and I’m saying to you, your excellency [John Dramani Mahama], with all honour, respect, but without fear, or favour, or intimidation, we will never accept LGBT. Never!” he emphasised his stance.

“Your excellency, I just want to remind you. Sir, it was a priority then, and it’s a priority now. It’s a priority, Your Excellency. If we need to march to the Jubilee House, we will march.

“If we need to scream, we will scream. If we need to yell, we will yell. Sin is sin. Righteousness is righteousness. Disorder is disorder. Evil is evil. Abomination is abomination,” he indicated.

He further added, “Your excellency, when you make a Stanford trip, people will hate you. I know that trip. When they cancelled that university thing, you felt it, and that is the price you pay for speaking the truth. Ghanaians hate me, but I don’t care about them. I defend God and his word”.

“I defend the God of the Bible and his word. I would die for this cause, your excellency. You will stand for truth and integrity. Is it not a priority? With all due respect, sir, it was in your campaign message. Me, the reason I voted for you is the Anti-LGBTQ+ that you assured you will pass a legislation on,” he said.

“Number two is ORAL. We need our money back. We can’t be patient, Your Excellency. We need our money back,” he stated.

His comments follow President Mahama’s comments, stating that Ghana is still grappling with the provisions of basic needs of education, health care, jobs, food, clothing, and shelter, which is his government’s main focus and not the Anti-LGBTQ Bill.

“If we need to march to Jubilee House, we will” – Prophet Kofi Oduro warns Mahama

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the Founder and leader of the Alabaster International Ministries, has issued a stern warning to President John Dramani Mahama following his recent comments about the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

According to Prophet Kofi Oduro, he was part of the pastors who made a case for the bill to be signed by the president, but they did not achieve their aim, and were given the assurance that the new regime would address the issues.

Also, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, has fired shots at President John Dramani Mahama over his recent comments on the passage of the anti LGBTQ+ bill.

VIP JEOUN Transport increases Accra-Kumasi fare to GH¢150 effective April 8

0

Private transport operator VIP Jeoun Transport has announced an increase in its prices effective Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

According to the VIP, they last reviewed fares on April, 26,2024.

The VIP in their statement did not disclose their reasoning behind the upward adjustment to their fares.

In a post on Facebook, VIP stated, “VIP JEOUN Transport announces fare increase effective Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

VIP JEOUN Transport first published this notice on 14/03/25 and SUSPENDED on 18/03/25.

VIP JEOUN Transport last reviewed fares on April, 26,2024. The fares are categorised as EXECUTIVE and STANDARD TOUR”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “What causes this sudden increase in your fares? I’d like to understand the reasoning behind this decision, as it seems to be affecting the economy and inflation, relying on your transport services. I hope this decision doesn’t negatively impact your customer base. It’s crucial for your business to maintain customer trust and satisfaction, especially with the fare increase. Perhaps you could consider offering additional services or benefits to justify the new prices. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this”.

“You are just enjoying the monopoly, How I wish Intercity STC Coaches Limited will be up and doing”, a netizen added.

In related news, the Deputy Industrial and Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Samuel Amoah, has told the John Mahama-led NDC government to abolish fuel taxes within 48 hours or face fare hikes.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, the GPRTU stressed that the growing cost of operations is becoming unbearable for commercial drivers.

The GPRTU cited rising fuel prices, expensive spare parts, deteriorating road conditions and an increase in charges by the DVLA.

Samuel Amoah stated, “We came up with this release and gave the government two days to do something about it. If they fail to do [that]…then we have no option but to organise ourselves to request an increment of transport fares for our members.

“What the government and the president are saying is, it is something they can’t control right now, but the transport operators may be forced to,” Samuel Amoah explained.

The GPRTU demands follow the National Petroleum Authority’s new pricing guidelines, which set minimum ex-pump prices for the period April 1 to April 15 at GHS 13.30 per litre for petrol and GHS 17.10 per litre for diesel, a significant increase compared to March 31, when petrol and diesel were pegged at GHS 11.57 and GHS 14.35 per litre.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has assured that the government is prepared to shield Ghanaians from rising fuel costs.

Mahama disclosed that his government will roll out targeted measures to protect consumers if rising global oil prices begin to significantly impact domestic fuel costs.

Speaking at a Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society Organisations, the President stated, “Things were sailing quite smoothly, and indeed, we’re beginning to enjoy some of the lowest fuel prices in a long time. The push factor in the oil price build-up is coming from the price of crude oil and finished products”.

“If this continues, then we will have to take some firm decisions”.

Mahama explained, “Some of the options available to us include adjusting margins to ease the burden on consumers and also reviewing the development levy to provide relief”.

“Fuel drives the transport sector, and transport is a major contributor to inflation. When fuel prices rise, the cost of moving goods, especially food, also increases, affecting the overall cost of living,” he said.

Ei, these are the yardsticks of achievements, then Nana Addo achieved a lot paaaa ooh”.

“So u too dey post copy and paste. So u can’t analyse the achievements of ur government unless u copy. Massa learns how to communicate properly. Ghanaians deserve better than this. Come out with a clear explanation and effective points to better the argument”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “These claims appear exaggerated and largely unverified. Economic indicators like inflation, exchange rate, and interest rates cannot change this quickly without clear public data. Without evidence, the list looks more like political marketing than proven achievement”.

“Ursula’s sins” – Netizen reacts to Vodafone being found guilty of breaching the privacy of a customer

0

A netizen identified as Blaque Gatsby has said that Vodafone being found guilty of breaching the privacy of a customer has once again proven that Minister of Communications Sam George is right again for pushing for a new SIM registration exercise.

According to the netizen, the Supreme Court ruling highlights the former Communication Minister Ursula Owusu’s sins and vindicates the current Communication Minister.

In a post on X, the netizen wrote, “Ursula’s sins.

Once again, Sam has been proven right.

Using Ghanaian’s Ghana card to register and link their SIMs without the permission and cooperation of the NIA, the agency that owns the data, was definitely illegal.

This is another reason why Sam George shouldn’t touch or tamper with the biometric data Ursula collected.

You can dislike Sam George all you want, but he was right from day one”.

His post comes on the heels of the Supreme Court ruling that Vodafone Ghana Limited has breached the privacy of its customers by using Ghana card details to register a number and mobile money account for another customer.

Ghana’s apex court, in a majority decision of 4 – 1, held that Vodafone Ghana Limited breached the data privacy rights of its customer, Elorm Kwami Gorni.

However, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the former Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, has issued a rebuttal, firing shots at claims made by President John Dramani Mahama and the current Minister for Communications, Sam George.

According to Ursula, the SIM card registration under her leadership represented real progress for Ghanaians and should not be undermined by misleading claims or political narratives.

She also criticised the government for failing to acknowledge the practical gains the registration during her time brought to the system, adding that if the government cannot praise her, they should not tarnish her reputation.

Man busted for allegedly burning his wife’s house over UK ‘borga’ cheating suspicion

0

Patrick Agyemang Yeboah has allegedly set his wife’s house on fire in Kumasi over suspicions that she was cheating with a UK ‘borga’.

According to reports, Patrick Agyemang Yeboah has been arrested for allegedly burning his wife’s house.

The suspect friend, identified as Adutwum Kennedy, explained that Patrick Agyemang Yeboah confided in him about issues in his marriage, revealing that his wife was involved with another man.

Adutwum Kennedy revealed that the house belongs to the woman’s family, where he had been living, but was sacked from the house.

According to him, Patrick Agyemang Yeboah suspected his wife was involved with her ex-boyfriend based in London, adding that his friend contacted the UK ‘borga’, asking him to stay away from his wife.

He further disclosed that Patrick, due to emotional distress, took to social media, where he threatened to harm himself and his wife, adding that he later received information that Patrick had taken petrol and matches to his wife’s house.

Patrick’s friend, Adutwum Kennedy, speaking in an interview with blogger DePrince, stated, “After speaking with the lady and watching some videos, parts of the kitchen were burnt, but I can’t say Patrick took petrol to the house to set it ablaze. We will leave that to the police. From the video, parts of the house were burnt, but I can’t emphatically say Patrick did it”.

Reports suggest that Patrick has since been arrested and is currently detained at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Asokwa.

In related news, a Ghanaian man, alleged to be living on the streets of Hamburg, Germany, has ignited debate on social media following his revelation about his relationship.

According to the man, he sold his house just to bring his wife to Germany, but was later dumped by his wife after she arrived.

The Ghanaian man narrating his ordeal expressed deep regret and warned young men to be careful in dealing with women.

He highlighted that his own experience had left him emotionally and financially broken.

He further detailed that the separation has continued to haunt him, which has left him in a state of sadness after the divorce.

Speaking in a viral video, the Ghanaian man living in Germany stated, “Women are bad. They will disgrace you and, at the same time, bring you down”.

“I paid 10,000 pounds, all my entire money, sold my house and brought my wife overseas, only for her to arrive and break up with me.”

Some Ghanaians reacting to the sad development stated, “We Ghanaians are lazy and prioritise women more than anything on earth. I see Ghanaians paying girls rent in the US. We have the biggest mouths as a group of people, but our sense of reasoning can be very shallow. I hope you find your feet and learn some lessons from this experience”.

“Selling your house to relocate someone regardless of how much you ‘love’ them is a bad financial decision, and you deserve the repercussions”, a netizen added.

“Edo aa if you people get money you no know what you go take do anaa? Or ebi konji? What comes to your mind when you go to take a woman abroad? If you don’t know what, you go take your money and go club, go waste the money on strippers rather than coming for her”, a netizen added.

The news comes at a time when Sam Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has disclosed that the planned SIM registration will be rolled out in the third quarter of 2026.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, Sam George revealed the exercise will be rolled out between July, August, and September in 2026.

The Communication Minister also urged Ghanaians to fully participate in the upcoming SIM card re-registration exercise.

Sam George, during the interview, stated, “It’s advisable for everybody to ensure that when we roll out the registration process, you take part in it. Bearing in mind that you took part in a system that traumatised people—people queued for days—but now you have a system that will allow you to do this in the comfort of your home. The process will be mandatory for the use of telecom services in the country”.

“I’m confident that in the third quarter of this year, anytime between July, August, and September, we will definitely be in a good position to roll out,” he said.

GES demoted me with my salary reduced shortly after MrBeast’s school project began – Headmaster cries out

0

The headmaster of Mante D/A Basic School, a public institution at Akim Mante in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region, which was recently refurbished by American YouTuber and content creator MrBeast, has cried out over his treatment by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The headmaster, identified as Asare Richard, alleged that the GES reduced his rank immediately MrBeast launched the school project, a project he stressed he was actively involved in and at the forefront.

According to him, shortly after the project began, he was demoted from Assistant Director II to Principal Superintendent without any clear explanation, resulting in a salary reduction.

Asare Richard added that all attempts to seek clarification from officials at the Ghana Education Service have proved futile, as his requests have been met with no response.

Speaking in a viral video, the headmaster said, “Immediately this project started, GES gave me a notification that my rank had been reduced and also reduced my salary without any valid reason. I don’t know the reason they did that because I have not made any connection or anything.

“My rank was Assistant Director II, and I was brought down to Principal Superintendent. Since September, all letters that I am supposed to write, I’ve done my part, but still…” the headmaster alleged.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “The headmaster erred. He’s even lucky he’s still a headmaster. Did he seek for the approval of GES before commencement of the project? We should respect institutional leadership. The school is a sole property of the GES. This is not a private school”.

A netizen added, “You see the kind of leaders we have?  They will not do their work, but when an individual tries to do what they are supposed to do then they try to sabotage the person or try all means to frustrate that person. F*ckin country”.

One X user added, “This Ghana ankasa eeehhh, the level of hypocrisy is just too much, someone standing in for the refurbishment of a nation-owned asset, and you just reduced his rank salary without any reason, for what????

Hypocrites, God will punish them paaaa”.

Another X user added, “Your intentions may be good, but there’s a channel you have to follow. If indeed he got the approval from the GES director in his district or municipality, then we all can fight GES for his rank to be restored. Africans, we take things for granted too much”.

In related news, MrBeast has announced plans to visit Ghana later this year to completely transform an entire village in Ghana.

Speaking at the 1 Billion Followers Summit 2026, Mr Beast revealed that there is a village in Ghana that desperately needs help.

He revealed that he has reached out to his colleagues who are also content creators and are going to participate in the project.

According to him, they are going to build a hospital, a well for the people to get quality water and also help with their education.

MrBeast at the  Billion Followers Summit 2026, hosted in Dubai by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), stated, “We are going to Ghana later this year, and there is this village that desperately needs help. We will go there, build a hospital, wells, supply them with water and help them with education. Go there and completely transform the entire village, and we are all going to make content together and help inspire more people to do good.

“I reached out to some of my friends to help push the message even more and inspire others, and I invited 20 of the biggest creators I know,” he said.

“What happened to NPP in 2024, NDC’s will be worse” – Afenyo-Markin predicts

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has predicted that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be shocked if elections were conducted today.

He further alleged, “Look, when this government came into office, I won’t list them, but go to Parliament, look at the order papers.

In related news,  Alexander Afenyo-Markin has cautioned against political tribalism, dismissing claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is an Akan-only party.

Afenyo-Markin asserted that if the NPP were an Akan-only party,  he wouldn’t have been Minority Leader.

The Minority leader argued that his rise within the NPP opposes the claims that the NPP is exclusively Akan.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) on Wednesday, March 25, Afenyo-Markin argued, “From Volta, my dad is an alumni. My mom is an Efutu woman from the Central Region. And by the way, in the last elections, the Central Region, we only had four seats,” he said.

“If we are looking at a majoritarian system, where you say that NPP is an Akan party, why would I be the minority leader? It means that the leader should come from Ashanti or Eastern. But that is not the case,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin explained, “It’s the reason why when my colleagues were speaking and advising you, they talked about hard work. Amongst us, you realise that the party colleagues will say, “Let’s give it to this person. There will be a small debate. It’s normal. But eventually, we will settle on one”.

“I will plead with all of you. Don’t allow tribal bigotry, or tribalism, to sway your thoughts,” he cautioned.

“Don’t allow anybody to use religion to come and tell you that you are a Hindu, you are an Eckankar, you are a traditional believer, or you are a Muslim,” he said.

“You are growing up. This is a party you have chosen for yourselves. Know the values of the party. What do we stand for? Our party, when they say the traditional NPP, what do we stand for?”

Ei it these are the yardsticks of achievements, then Nana Addo achieved a lot paaaa ooh”.

“So u too dey post copy and paste. So u can’t analyse the achievements of ur government unless u copy. Massa learn how to communicate properly. Ghanaians deserve better than this. Come out with clear explanation and effective points to better the argument”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “These claims appear exaggerated and largely unverified. Economic indicators like inflation, exchange rate, and interest rates cannot change this quickly without clear public data. Without evidence, the list looks more like political marketing than proven achievement”.

“Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill was a priority then, and it is a priority now” – Mahama told

0

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the Founder and leader of Alabaster International Ministries (Alabaster House Chapel), has boldly told President John Dramani Mahama that the Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill was a priority then, and it is a priority.

Prophet Kofi Oduro, “I just want to remind you that it was a priority then, and it is a priority now. It is a priority. If we need to march to the Jubilee House, we will march; if we need to scream, we will scream. If we need to yell, we will yell; sin is sin, righteousness is righteousness, disorder is disorder, and abomination is abomination,” he told his congregation.

“In your campaign message…the reason I voted for you is LGBTQI that you’ll pass legislation. Number 2 is ORAL; we need our money back, we can’t be patient, your excellency,” he reminded the president.

Also, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, the Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, has told President John Dramani Mahama that it is the National Chief Imam’s His Eminence Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu’s wish that the anti-LGBTQI+ bill be signed before he dies.

He highlighted that the National Chief Imam has a strong stand against LGBT and wishes the process would be expedited.

The Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam stressed that the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law was a priority for the NDC in opposition and should be a top priority for them in government.

According to the spokesperson for the Chief Imam, the Mahama government must prioritise the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law, as the expectation among the public remains high following their assurances in opposition.

Speaking on GTV on April 2, 2026, Sheikh Shaibu stated, “So, we came into the 2024 elections and 2025 with the strong hope of our current president that he will do that [sign the bill]. So, I feel what the public is feeling… But we want to say that we are not doing politics with this matter. So just as our position was strong during the former government, it remains stronger even now”.

“I would have wished that he stayed there, but to say it is not a top priority… because during the campaign period, it was a priority matter. It was one of the key issues for public debate that was influencing people’s mindset about voting,” he stated.

He added, “So, Your Excellency, good morning. I mean, you are my very good brother. Old Man [Chief Imam] is my father, is your father, and that is the old man’s stance on this matter. His stance is so strong against LGBT”.

“His wish would have been that you would sign this or expedite the process before he dies. If there’s anything I can advise before the old man dies… he would wish that this thing is signed before he departs,” he added.

Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu added, “So, if I can advise my very good brother, sir, president, remain courageous. Never step back. Your Christian conviction must be given the fullest of expression”.

“Just like we, who are Muslims, will also give you the backing. We should not be afraid, and I’m sure that this subject has come because of the aid that we will get or we are going to… I mean, there are a lot of things being considered,” he noted.

“Stability is good, but people are hungry; there’s unemployment everywhere,” – BoG Governor admits

0

Dr Johnson Asiama, the Bank of Ghana Governor, has admitted that stability is good, but people are hungry.

In related news, Dr Johnson Asiama, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), has cautioned that the Middle East conflict poses fresh inflation risks for Ghana.

The BoG governor disclosed that the escalating tensions in the Middle East could threaten Ghana’s improving inflation.

Dr Asiama highlighted that the Middle East tension is disrupting major global energy and shipping routes.

He further explained that the tension is creating an increasing volatility in global oil markets.

Speaking at the opening of the 129th Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, the BoG governor stated, “A significant external development has entered the picture, and that has to do with the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. This conflict is disrupting key energy and shipping corridors”.

“It is increasing volatility in global oil markets, and it is introducing new uncertainty into the trajectory of global inflation,” he said.

He added, “For Ghana, the transmission channels are clear. Sustained oil price increases could raise the risk of imported inflation and could also tighten global financial conditions.”

“Geopolitical uncertainty tends to support gold prices… This could benefit our trade balance,” he added.

The BoG Governor highlighted that Ghana’s macroeconomic indicators have improved, but there is a need to carefully weigh global risks before making any decision.

Meanwhile, Francis Xavier Sosu, the Member of Parliament for Madina, has said no amount of jobs created by the government will absorb every unemployed person.

Speaking in an interview on Metro TV on Monday, March 30, 2026, Francis Xavier Sosu stated, “Government will create jobs. But no amount of jobs created by the government will absorb every unemployed person. You must understand that. Let’s be honest,” he said.

“It’s not about politics. Hunger doesn’t know politics. A lack of jobs doesn’t know political parties. If you want to tie your personal growth and jobs to NDC or NPP, I’m telling you, you’ll lose it,” Sosu added.

He added, “No political person will be a politician forever. I will do my own, my time will come, I will leave. But I’ve said too many times that you are here because you want to help the people. After service, I will go.”

“Many young people have come to my office, and by the time they are leaving, they turn into entrepreneurs. One of the things we do a lot is business support,” he said.

I flew my first plane at age 13 after my father faked a heart attack – Zanetor

0

Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, has narrated how her late father, former President Jerry John Rawlings, faked a heart attack just to get her to fly a plane for the first time.

According to Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, she flew her first plane at age 13.

Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings recounted how she flew solo for the first time, narrating how her father pretended to suffer a heart attack while they were airborne to test her readiness.

Speaking during an interview on GHOne’s Starr Chat on June 27, 2024, Dr Zanetor  Agyeman-Rawlings narrated, “I flew my first plane at age 13. It was a circuit. He (her father) was braver than I was. It is a funny scenario because it was one of those situations where, as a parent, he taught me how to fly, had watched me, he knew what I was capable of; so, he got out of the plane and said go”.

“What he did before was, as we were on final, he said he had a heart attack, so I had to land the plane. I shut his eyes, and I caught what this man was doing. And I thought, okay, I have to land this plane, which I did. And I think for him, that was his way of testing whether I would be able to do it,” she narrated.

“And then he got out and said, ‘You are ready, go’. And I looked at him, I was scared actually because I thought ‘I don’t know’ and he said ‘You are ready, go’. So, I did, I went, and of course I was praying the whole way,” she added.

In related news, Retired Major General Kwamina Sam has revealed that the late former President Jerry John Rawlings would not have joined the army if not Air Force Commander’s personal decision.

According to Retired Major General Jerry John Rawlings, at the time, he failed his examinations and should have been disqualified, but the Air Force Commander took a personal decision to keep him as he was a good pilot.

Retired Major General explained that the commanders saw Rawlings as a nice chap whom they could handle, but it was to their own peril.

Speaking with Kafui Dey in a video shared on Facebook, Retired Major General Kwamina Sam explained, “June 4th, if anybody had told me it was coming, I wouldn’t have believed it. I just finished my service in Kumasi as commander and moved to Accra as Chief of Staff. I was then a Brigadier General”.

According to the former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, he never met Rawlings at Achimota School, but added that he was aware of him.

“In fact, he always looked crafy to me. It was the Air Force Commander’s personal decision, despite the fact that he wasn’t passing his exams, that he was a good pilot and should be kept. If the rules had been applied, Rawlings wouldn’t have been in the service. They all thought he was a nice chap; they could handle him, to their peril,” he added.

Also, a former Chief of Air Staff, retired Air Commodore K. K. Pumpuni, has deflated the long-standing assertions that the late Jerry John Rawlings once flew an aircraft under the Adomi Bridge.

According to the former Chief of Air Staff, he was in charge of operations of the Air Force, and nothing like that happened, adding that if Rawlings had indeed flown under the Adomi Bridge, he would have court-marshalled him.

Speaking in an interview with  Kafui Dey shared on X on Monday, March 9, 2026, the retired Air Commodore stated, “There was a claim that Rawlings flew under the Adomi Bridge, and I said no, he didn’t. I was in charge of the operations of the Air Force, and nothing like that happened. If it had happened, we would have court-martialled him. Nothing like that ever happened”.

“There are certain issues surrounding it, and an aircraft cannot just fly under the bridge over the water like that. I made that comment, and he heard it, and he wasn’t too happy about it. He felt I should have kept quiet, but I said no. I was asked a question, so I couldn’t have kept quiet”.

“If I had kept quiet, it would have meant I was endorsing the claim. But it wasn’t true, and you also know it’s not true. Jerry had a small problem with me after that incident, so I’ve not been able to publish my book,” he added.

“I’m sure he has beef with somebody” – Watch how Mahama reacted as a man with a placard disrupted his speech

0

A video has surfaced of a man staging a protest during President John Dramani Mahama’s keynote address during the Kwahu Business Forum.

Some netizens reacting to the news stated, “He has likely exhausted all available options for recovery, leading to this current course of action”.

“Under the former president, you dare not try this. Like prison straight”, a netizen claimed.

A netizen added, “You are lucky that Nana Addo is not in power like wobeti wofiga”.

“Wow, but see how John Mahama was so composed over everything, even though it disrupted his speech. I think Ghana has now found the new Kwame Nkrumah”, an X user added.

A netizen added, “Mahama is a very smart man…he has dismissed him in a subtle way”.

“The president said someone should read the placard to him, and he feels he can then walk to the president. Hmmm”, an X user added.

“Have mercy on us and forgive us” – Abu Trica’s partner makes an emotional plea

0

The partner of Abu Trica has been captured in a viral video, making an emotional plea to the government, calling for his release.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Abu Trica’s partner make an emotional plea to the government, stating, “Too many of you Ghanaians are committing fraud, and now Western countries are catching up with you. Many of your loud Nigerians are the ones with this type of behaviour, but you are right there doing the same thing. Shame on you for calling Nigerians names and you are involved, too”.

“I just don’t get it. People suddenly decide to protest or plead for a suspect to be released or protected from extradition, as if it’s that simple. They seem to forget that this case has already gone through all the final legal processes. Yet they are protesting for his release”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “Agraada was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and later her sentence was reduced to like 1 year…That shows you how the country is. Is the law for some people alone or for everyone? Nothing like fairness, so why democracy?”

“Nonsense! You were enjoying the proceeds from his criminal activities; you didn’t warn him! Do you know how many lives he has destroyed and how many innocent people he has taken their entire life savings? No one is above the law! You reap what you sow!”, a netizen added.

“Madam, madam abeg. Don’t let me vers you. The time you were enjoying, did you come out to give a speech? We saw you in the Lamborghini doing snap and things today. We should do what? Abeg, shift and let the law do its work”, an X user added.

One more X user added, “What’s that woman with the Child wearing? Stealing is bad, and any Parent who protects his/her child from facing the consequences is himself/ herself a thief.  He should go so that others will learn that it doesn’t pay to steal”.

Meanwhile, Abu Trica, who is set to be extradited to the US to face his $8 million romance scam, after the Gbese District Court granted a request to surrender.

Reports suggest that Abu Trica and his legal team have been granted 15 days to challenge the decision.

According to this, the extradition process will not take place until the expiration of the 15 days allowed for a habeas corpus application.

Speaking after the court’s ruling on Friday, March 27, 2026, a legal team member representing Abu Trica, Rosemary, stated, “I’m a lawyer in the case of the Republic v. Frederick Kumi. We filed various preliminary legal objections regarding his extradition, but the court has dismissed them. It’s actually part of the process”.

“Extradition processes are usually very fast, but we’ve managed to delay it slightly to protect his interests. Still, the court continues to dismiss our applications,” she said.

Abu Trica’s lawyer added, “We filed a preliminary objection requesting disclosure of the items seized, arguing that they do not belong to Frederick Kumi and are unrelated to the extradition offence. The court, however, ruled against us. The case was adjourned for 15 days, during which we are expected to file a habeas corpus application”.

“We believe that when we file the habeas corpus, we’ll be able to present our arguments fully and explain why Frederick cannot be extradited. Our hopes are cautious, but we remain optimistic,” she concluded.

In related news, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the lawyer for embattled Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has detailed how a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent set up his client.

Drivers who install TV screens on their dashboards face imprisonment – Chief Inspector

0

Chief Inspector Frempong Ayeh of the Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to drivers who install television monitors on their vehicle dashboards.

According to Chief Inspector Frempong Ayeh, Drivers who install TV screens on their dashboards could face imprisonment.

He detailed that in-car entertainment systems are permitted, but placing such devices within the driver’s view violates road safety regulations.

He disclosed that drivers are only allowed to install monitors for the benefit of passengers seated behind them.

Speaking during a radio interview, Chief Inspector Frempong Ayeh stated, “Drivers who install screens or TV monitors on their dashboards commit an offence. While monitors may be installed for passengers seated behind the driver, placing one in the front for the driver’s use is prohibited”.

“You can’t be driving and watching TV at the same time. It is against the law,” he stressed.

“Regulation 189 states that anyone found culpable for such an offence should be arrested and taken to court to be fined 300 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢300, or 30 days’ imprisonment, or both,” he added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to  Chief Inspector Frempong Ayeh’s remarks stated, “Newer cars have 10-15″ LCD screens or now panoramic screens. Are they considered illegal? The shit we worry about, people are overtaking on the wrong side, causing accidents, and you are telling us this”.

A netizen added, “Outdated law enforcement, forgetting the technology, wait for nobody but those who can afford it. What about the New Chinese cars you are parading around for marketing purposes? Why don’t you tell the company to stop

Promoting and producing such exotic cars”.

A netizen added, “What do you people want, kraa. So the cars that have the screen should do what about it now? Should they pack their heavy cars home or remove the screens and leave the ports empty no wonder he couldn’t even spell his own name properly”.

“I think he needs to be specific. Fixing a monitor or screen of that sort obstructs your view as a driver, to some extent, and that’s why it’s wrong. Because we have vehicles already manufactured with infotainment systems”, one X user added.

A netizen added, “Have you ever seen the car of a police or Soldier ?

All the things they say we are not allowed to do, they have done them.

Very, very dark tint, screens on dashboards, no stickers on the windshield, etc.

There is so much bitterness in how some of these rules are made”.

A Ghanaian added, “Da interviewer sef no get wisdom kraa. So u no go ask da pertinent question or ask drivers to call in and ask questions. Archaic laws nkoaaa. So the new electric cars with state-of-the-art info systems nu333”.

“Trash. You see the new cars being manufactured now? Chinese EVs have the biggest screens. This law should be amended. It has overstayed its welcome”, an X user noted.

Ghana receives 100 new buses, as Aayalolo and Metro Mass buses are left to rot

0

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has announced that Ghana has received 100 new 29-seater buses in government efforts to tackle recent public transport challenges.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the 100 new buses form part of a total of 300 procured by the government, which is aimed at improving transport services and reducing pressure on commuters.

In a post on Sunday, April 5, 2026, on X, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated, “In the meantime, 100  29-seater buses have arrived in the country to ease recent road transport challenges. They form part of 300 procured for the purpose.

Another batch of 100 will arrive in August, with the last batch of 100 arriving in November”.

However, in early 2026, a video surfaced of the Aayalolo BRT buses left to rot amid the ongoing public transportation crisis in Accra.

In the viral video, the Aayalolo BRT buses have been left abandoned at the  Achimota New Station Aayalolo yard, rusting away.

TV3’s Christian Yalley in the viral video narrated that some of the Aayalolo BRT buses’ tyres have been removed, and are just stationary, adding that some of the buses are entirely grounded.

He highlighted that they were not allowed to go and film inside the buses to see the exact defect of the buses, adding that the buses have been grounded for years.

In related news, Awudu Dawuda, the Acting Managing Director of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), has revealed that only 80 out of the 245 Ayalolo buses procured by the government in 2016 are currently operating in Accra.

He explained that when he took over, 60 of the buses were packed because they were broken down, adding that they were repaired to get them back on the road.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Awudu Dawuda stated, “When it comes to urban mobility, we are all aware that it is important for the growth of any economy, especially when we are seeking to get more buses into the system”.

“When I took over, we were left with only 80 buses out of the 245 buses that the government procured in 2016. The buses were procured to operate within Accra alone, but 60 were taken to Kumasi, 10 to Takoradi, and another 10 to Tamale at the behest of the then Ministry of Transport,” he explained.

He added, “When I took over, I wrote to the people in charge of the buses in Kumasi, and approval has been granted for us to add the 60 buses there to the ones we have in Accra”.

“Close to 60 of the buses were packed because they were broken down. What we did was to repair them through our own means to get them back on the road,” he added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “Please, why change the brand again? Pretty JAK started with many cars, including some double-decker buses. It didn’t last; he later turned to Neoplan buses, of which the old ones that they started with are still running. Prz Mills brought Tata buses, it didn’t last, Prz Mahama”.

“MMT, it will end up being run down and sold for cheap to cronies. MMT is incapable of managing transport business Truth be told,” a netizen added.

“Meanwhile, we have a lot of parked Ayalolo and Metro-Mass buses that are spoiled but just need maintenance, but yeah, we should bring in new ones, mo nyinaa motwaaaaaasidi kraaaaa”, a netizen added.

A netizen added, “The transport challenges aren’t only the unavailability of buses but rather bad road conditions. No matter the number of buses you procure, if the roads are still bad, ETA will be longer than usual, and there will still be congestion!”

A X user stated, “If these buses come without the manufacturing company coming to set up and maintain workshops in the country to train Ghanaians and supply spare parts, in no time they will be sold as scraps”.

“Procurement chop chop nkoaa na aka mu in that afuom. Ghana should be producing buses by now, but here we are. Metro Mass, Aayalolo, EV buses and now this! What are you going to call this one? Jokers!”, an X user alleged.

A netizen added, “Look at the crippling road congestion on our streets. We are desperately seeking international spotlight and engaging in battles bigger than ourselves, yet we cannot even develop our nation. Equal distribution of resources, fixing our crumbling infrastructure and ultramodern roads”.

One last netizen added, “That’s all they know, PROCUREMENT. Most of these buses will be auctioned by Dec. 2028  at ridiculously low prices to party faithfuls because there’s no proper plan for their operation and maintenance. Won’t be surprised if they were sole-sourced or through restrictive tendering”.

“I sold my house, brought my wife to Germany, only for her to dump me” – Homeless Ghanaian man speaks

0

A Ghanaian man, alleged to be living on the streets of Hamburg, Germany, has ignited debate on social media following his revelation about his relationship.

One more X user added, “Fear women sɛ sɛn. See, this is a game, and you either learn how to play or you’ll be played. Which woman will say NO to someone wanting to help her? If you want to attract a lady, build a frame and learn to play the game. Don’t be Santa Claus and expect she will love you back”.

“Is going to Germany that expensive that you have to sell your house before sending her to Germany? You decided to sell your house and not because you wanted her to travel!!!”,  a netizen added.

An X user added, “Anuanom monsua nyansa o

Never ever in your life come back to Ghana to marry a Ghanaian woman born in Ghana.

Unless she fully funds your trip abroad. 3ny3 saa paaa dia use the money to send your friends abroad”.

“Reason women go to the extreme:: they hold a child for 9 months. The laws favor the gender. So they can do the extreme”, an X user added.

One X user advised, “Again marriage shouldn’t be about making a lady happy!!!

You both are humans

Don’t over do !!!”

“Free Abu! Free Abu! Nobody does fraud here” – Shatta Wale declares during live performance

0

Shatta Wale, a Ghanaian dancehall artist, during his live performance at the Gomoa Street Carnival on April 5, 2026, called for the release of entrepreneur Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica.

According to Shatta Wale, Abu Trica must be freed as nobody does fraud.

Shatta Wale, during his performance at the Gomoa Street Carnival, led sections of the crowd in chants demanding Abu Trica’s freedom.

Speaking to the crowd, Shatta Wale stated, “Free Abu! Free Abu! Free Abu! Nobody does fraud here. Would they say someone is a fraudster if they had given us jobs? We all want money,” he told the audience.

In a post on X, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote, “Let’s Talk Abu Trica.

Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him, saying that he was expecting some 50,000 dollars. And that Abu Trica should help find a bank account for them to transfer the money into.

His share would be 13,000 dollars if he found an account. Abu Trica went around asking different people because he thought he was making 13,000 dollars. Someone gave him an account, which he gave to the FBI undercover agents. And he was paid 13,000 dollars”.

He added, “This is the entire evidence the FBI provided. When Abu was arrested, the FBI came to him to give them the name of the person whose account it was.

Abu didn’t. Before the matter went to court, they had EOCO Issue a press statement claiming that Abu had scammed people of 8 million dollars. There is no 8 million USD anywhere. We are here because of 13,000 dollars”.

Barker-Vormawor disclosed that Abu Trica was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, “Now Abu was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. We presented the magistrate with 80 pages of legal argument, tracing the history of the Extradition Treaty, showing that the offence of conspiracy is not an extraditable offence.

Now, the matter is under appeal, so I won’t say more than that. Except that in my whole life, I have never met a judge so eager to extradite a person before. Complete refusal to follow due process. Her mind was made up from day 1.

The truth is, out of 200 requests Ghanaian has received, all 200 have been extradited by our courts. 200-0 oo. If our Courts are willing to follow the law, not be afraid of America, Abu’s case will be 200-1”.

“Chief Imam wishes anti-LGBTQI+ bill is signed before he dies” – Mahama told

0

Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, the Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, has told President John Dramani Mahama that it is the National Chief Imam’s His Eminence Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu wish that the anti-LGBTQI+ bill be signed before he dies.

Meanwhile, The Founder of the Centre for Religion and Public Life (CRPL) and lecturer in Religion and Human Values at the University of Cape Coast, Rev Canon Dr Confidence Bansah, has quizzed whether the anti-LGBTQ+ law will put food and drink on the tables of Ghanaians.

Rev Bansah questioned the relevance of prioritising the anti LGBTQ+ bill at a time when many Ghanaians are still struggling with economic hardship.

He further questioned whether a president must be remembered for LGBTQ laws or the prosperity and development of the nation.

According to Rev Bansah,  MPs who are sponsoring this bill are going about in their comfortable lives, spending poor taxpayers’ money meant for development and are disconnected from the struggles of their constituents.

He added that it is essential for the government to focus on addressing pressing issues such as poverty, education, and healthcare, which directly impact the livelihoods of the people.

In a social media post on April 2, 2026, on X, Rev Bansah wrote, “What do Ghanaians stand to gain if the president makes LGBTQ+ a top priority of government? Must the president be remembered for LGBTQ laws or the prosperity and development of the nation? We know how ordinary Ghanaians are suffering.

Families wake up in the morning not knowing where the day’s meal will come from. Ironically, those MPs who are sponsoring this bill are going about in their comfortable lives, spending poor taxpayers’ money meant for the development of the nation on committee meetings”

He added, “They are seemingly disconnected from the struggles of their constituents. We strongly believe that it is essential for the government to focus on addressing pressing issues such as poverty, education, and healthcare, which directly impact the livelihoods of the people.

Rather than wasting time on irrelevant things. Would LGBTQ+ law put food and drink on our tables? Pay people’s school fees? Pay people’s hospital bills? Supply hospitals with equipment and drugs? Construct roads? Give jobs to the youth? Give us good drinking water? Or clean the choked gutters?.

The president must have said something previously. But what we must know is that people can always change their minds when the facts change. Even God changes his mind. As a result, we think the president has demonstrated his love for the welfare of…”

Out of jealousy, Mahama criticised Akufo-Addo for receiving honorary doctorate awards – Titus Glover

0

Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus Glover, a former Greater Accra Regional Minister, has claimed that out of jealousy, President John Mahama, in opposition, criticised Akufo-Addo for receiving honorary doctorate awards.

According to Titus Glover, it is shameful for Mahama to even pursue such an honorary doctorate award after previously criticising Akufo-Addo.

Speaking during an interview on Adom TV’s Badwam on Friday, April 3, 2026, Titus Glover stated, “It was out of jealousy that President Mahama criticised Nana Akufo-Addo for receiving honorary doctorate awards while he was in opposition”.

“It is shameful that Mr Mahama would even pursue such an award after previously criticising Nana Akufo-Addo for similar recognitions. This clearly shows a lack of principle,” he said.

Titus Glover added, “Looking at the speculation surrounding why the university declined the award, it appears the president is now shifting from his earlier stance, describing the LGBTQ+ issue as not a pressing matter in Ghana”.

“It is unfortunate that this matter was used for political advantage during the 2024 Election, only for the same people to now change their position”.

“I will be happy if President Mahama signs the bill when it is passed, but his current posture does not show someone willing to do so,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said Lincoln University still holds a special place in his heart despite its decision to withdraw an honorary doctorate that was to be conferred on him.

According to John Mahama, Lincoln University cannot be separated from the story of Ghana.

He highlighted that Lincoln University holds a special place in my heart as Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was nurtured intellectually and shaped by the University.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 26, President Mahama stated, “Whatever disagreements have arisen, for me, Lincoln University holds a special place in my heart. It is where our first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was nurtured intellectually and shaped in his Pan-Africanist struggle. It remains hallowed ground for Ghanaians and an integral part of our history”.

“We cannot separate Lincoln University from the story of Ghana, and we will continue to hold the institution in the highest esteem,” he said.

The Ghana Embassy in the United States has expressed disappointment following Lincoln University’s decision to cancel the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree, honoris causa, for President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Ghana Embassy in the United States, the university’s decision was communicated just hours before the scheduled visit on Thursday, March 26.

The Lincoln University decision is alleged to be based on  President Mahama’s perceived position on Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-gay Bill currently before Parliament.

The Ghana Embassy in the United States explained that no concerns were raised during the university’s due diligence and vetting processes.

Part of Ghana’s Embassy statement read, “It is both surprising and regrettable that such concerns have surfaced at this late stage, particularly with the President already in the United States in anticipation of the visit”.

It will be recalled that Lincoln University had earlier announced on March 19, 2026, that it would be conferring the honour on the President for his global leadership.

Portions of Lincoln University’s earlier statement read, “Lincoln University is proud to announce that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana and the African Union’s Champion for Advancing the Cause of Justice and the Payment of Reparations, will receive an honorary doctorate from the university on March 26, 2026.

“This is coming in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service, democratic governance, peaceful international and inter-African relationships, and global advocacy for justice, equality, and education.”

“Lincoln University is deeply honoured to welcome President John Dramani Mahama to our campus and to bestow upon him an honorary degree in recognition of his distinguished leadership,” Dr Allen said in the statement.

However, in another update, Lincoln University’s official website stated that it has cancelled the President’s visit, citing what it described as “unforeseen circumstances” for the decision.

The update read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the university is cancelling the visit from John Dramani Mahama, President of The Republic of Ghana, originally scheduled for Thursday, March 26th”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic development stated, “A moment of carelessness or worse and families are destroyed. We hear these stories too often in Ghana. Speeding, overloaded vehicles, poor road enforcement”.

“Why does it seem like Christians have been facing so many disasters over the past few weeks? We’ve gone from a fatal building collapse at a school to yet another tragedy. it’s becoming overwhelming”, a netizen quizzed.

One X user added, “Why’s happening with Christians in Ghana.

“We will tear the prosecution’s case into shreds” – Adu-Boahene’s lawyer boldly declares in ¢49m trial

0

Samuel Atta Akyea, lawyer for former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has boldly declared that they are going to tear the prosecution’s case into shreds.

According to Atta Akyea, they will not invent one false story but will base their arguments strictly on verifiable facts.

Speaking after the court proceedings on April 2, 2026, Samuel Atta Akyea stated, “We will not invent one false story against the Economic and Organised Crime Office and, by extension, the Attorney General. Everything we are doing in this case will be dangerously factual so that nobody will say this is Atta Akyea’s or Kwabena Adu-Boahene’s invention”.

“So, we’re not worried at all. At the end of the day, we will tear the prosecution’s case into shreds,” he added.

“She went there as a national security operative to pay cheques. It has an account name and number, and it isn’t Adu-Boahene’s private account or number. So, what comical joke is this that Adu-Boahene has taken money from the state and hidden it in a private account and was enjoying it?” he questioned.

It will be recalled that Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and one other have been charged by the state for stealing, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

According to the charge sheet, Kwabena Adu Boahene and his wife stole state funds to the tune of GHc 49 million.

The Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, filed 11 charges against Kwabena Adu-Boahene and three others at the High Court in Accra.

In court some weeks ago, the Supreme Court dismissed Adu Boahene’s legal team’s motion to prohibit Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from presiding over the $49 million case.

The apex court unanimously dismissed the application to prohibit the presiding judge in the Kwabena Adu-Boahene trial from further hearing the case on grounds of bias.

The 5-member panel of justices of the apex court held that the application was without merit and did not meet the requirements to prohibit the trial judge.

Earlier, the Supreme Court has dismissed the Attorney-General’s application for a review in the case involving former National Signals Bureau boss, Kwabena Adu Boahene.

According to reports, the Supreme Court, in a 6–1 majority decision, dismissed an application by the Attorney-General seeking a review of its earlier ruling on criminal disclosures.

The verdict was delivered by Justice Yonny Kulendi, the lone dissenting opinion.

Reports by Joy News stated, “The Attorney-General argued that by effectively removing the word “relevance” from the disclosure framework without substituting it with an equivalent standard, the Supreme Court had, in practical terms, rewritten the law on criminal disclosure.

He contended that the decision risked narrowing disclosure obligations to mere possession of documents, without sufficient regard to whether the materials sought had a meaningful bearing on the issues before the court.

Represented by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the Attorney-General urged the Court to either restore the word “relevance” in its ordinary sense or replace it with language such as “connected with the matter before the court”, in order to preserve a clear nexus between requested materials and the subject of the trial. He maintained that without such clarification, the disclosure regime could be applied too restrictively, to the detriment of fair trial standards”.

Justice Lovelace Johnson, who presided, Justice Amadu Tanko, Justice Yonny Kulendi, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Richard Adjei-Frimpong, Justice Sir Dennis Agyei, and Justice Kwaku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo were the panel members who determined the matter.

$108,000 withdrawal, $6,000 monthly– NLA Boss shocking rent allowance raises eyebrows

0

Mohammed Abdul-Salam, the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has been exposed big time for allegedly withdrawing $108,000 for accommodation and also paying himself $6,000 a month for rent.

Charles Maccarthy, the Editor of the Hawk Newspaper, made this allegation, claiming that the NLA Boss withdrew $108,000 for accommodation(GH¢ 1.2million) within 3 months upon assuming office without the approval of his board.

He further added that the NLA Boss currently pays himself $6,000 (GH¢ 61,800) every month as rent allowance.

Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, “Before the coming of the board, he had already withdrew  $108,000 (GH¢ 1.2million) within 3 months upon assuming office. He is paying himself $6,000 (GH¢ 61,800) every month as rent allowance; is he renting Jubilee House? Where in Accra would rent be $6,000 a month? Maybe we are the ones in the village. Even Jubilee House will not cost that amount”.

Charles McCarthy further alleged that the NLA boss is demanding an 84 per cent overall adjustment of salary.

According to the Editor of the Hawk Newspaper, Charles MacCarthy, the NLA Boss is demanding an increase in salary from GH¢38,000 to GH¢70,000.

He also alleged that the NLA boss has cut worker salaries by 13 per cent.

Charles MacCarthy highlighted that the NLA board did not immediately sign off on the proposal of an increase in salary, telling Mohammed Abdul-Salam to benchmark his pay against comparable agencies and return with a clear justification.

However, Charles MacCarthy alleged that the NLA boss snubbed the NLA board, issuing a letter to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to press for a review of his pay.

Charles McCarthy added, “When he came to the NLA, the workers were fighting for improved working conditions, but he has not worked on that. Also, they have reduced the NLA staff’s salary by 13 per cent.

However, the CEO has demanded an increase in his salary from GH¢ 38,000 to GH¢ 70,000. The board advise him to search for the salaries of the State Institution for him to compare his salary with them to show the board whether he deserves that increase in salary or not.

However, he issued a letter to the Fair Wages Commission demanding that the increment be made without approval from the board. Even the board does not regard them in any way.  At the Fair Wages Commission, he has yet to receive approval, and we are monitoring whether it will be approved”.

Some netizens reacting to the shocking allegations wrote, “Nyame nkoaa ne nokwafo. Gh¢ 1.2million on rents alone? Eeeii Oman Ghana hmm. This doesn’t mean the NPP is better. Please save us the noise, your finance minister is still on the run because of money laundering. The worst government in this 4th republic”.

Another netizen added, “If these claims are true, then it’s very troubling. Cutting workers’ salaries by 13% while doubling your own pay and taking huge allowances sends the wrong message about leadership and fairness. Public office should come with accountability, not privilege”.

One X user added, “The Ministry of Finance and the controller and account general department are the only two entities that manage salaries. So, straight up, you should know it’s a lie”.

“This is the greediness the bible talked about, how can you reduce their meagre income and increase yours? Some people are very wicked. I don’t even know what to say anymore about our leaders. Always enriching themselves”, a netizen added.

Additionally, another Ghanaian added, “I keep asking the auditing committee who has even evidence of scandals in the previous government, have they been caught or charged for anything? For me, it’s better if every political party in Ghana, PPC, HDN, CPP, comes to spend just 4 years and go, that’s all we need, we are jokers”.

One last netizen added, “Mahama, who rose through all the ranks of positions, became president, former president and president again, is still bad at leadership. What kind of person is that? Your own appointees”

“We have no choice” – Sachet water producers defend GH¢15 price hike

0

Kwame Richard, the  Vice President of the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers, has justified the price hike of Sachet water.

According to Kwame Richard, the GH¢15 per bag increase in sachet water prices is due to a shortage of essential raw materials needed for production.

He explained that following the Middle East tension has disrupted the global supply chains with a scarcity of packaging materials, particularly polymers.

He stressed that although tensions in the Middle East have had an unintended impact, the primary challenge stems from difficulties in accessing raw materials.

According to him, the new pricing structure, a bag of sachet water will sell at GH¢10 at the factory, while retailers are expected to purchase it at GH¢15.

He warned that any prices outside the approved range should be considered unauthorised.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, April 2,  Kwame Richard explained, “Scarcity is a challenge now. The little that we are getting has seen prices increase by about 40%. We therefore have no choice but to appeal to consumers to accept a slight price increase so we can continue producing safe, quality water for Ghanaians,” he stated.

“Very soon, we will address bottled water as well. For now, the adjustment applies only to sachets. In no time, we will come back to the bottles. Probably by next week, because the bottle that we use to package the bottled water is also from the same polymer that the sachet is made of,” he added.

His justification comes after the Sachet water producers planned to increase the price for a bag of Sachet Water will be sold at GH¢15, effective April 6, 2026.

NASPAWAP announced an upward revision of sachet water prices, attributing it to the global shortage of polymers and rising costs.

They also cited the ongoing conflict in Iran, saying it has significantly affected production.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 2, 2026, NASPAWAP stated, “The rising costs have made it challenging for manufacturers to maintain current prices,” the group said.

“The new recommended prices are:

Ex-factory: GH¢8 per bag of 30 sachets of 500ml

Ex-truck: GH¢10 per bag of 30 sachets of 500ml

Maximum retail: GH¢15 per bag of 30 sachets of 500ml”

They further urged retailers and consumers to adhere to the new prices to ensure fair trade practices.

“This adjustment is necessary to sustain production and ensure the continuous supply of safe drinking water,” the association added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “Inflation moved from a double digit to a single digit, and we really didn’t see any significant change in price. All Ghanaians ever care about is increasing prices and maximising profit”.

“Time to start filling my empty bottles”, a netizen added.

“When the dollar and inflation were down…price was the same, but as soon as there’s an inconvenience, price increases to never be reduced. The Ghanaian culture of trade. We are our own worst enemies, and we will continue churning out even worse leaders”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “Nonsense!! When they were supposed to increase it to 30p or 40p, they didn’t and took it all the way to 50p because they didn’t accept the 10p coin. Now look at them being greedy again”.

“Ghanaian err, we are our own enemies. When prices drop, they never drop the price, but when they increase the prices, they want to increase them.

It’s not NPP or NDC that has a problem. It’s all Ghanaians”, a Ghanaian stated.

A netizen added, “When I say capitalism will be our end, people were attacking me. Capitalism and democracy have never helped any developing country.

When are we going to tell ourselves the truth kraaa?”

“Inflation dey go down

Light dey go down

But things are increasing

Herrr Ghana and settings”, an X user listed.

One last X user stated, “On what basis, what’s the justification.. Charley, we are our own enemies. Inflation is down, the dollar is stable, the electricity tariff is being reduced, so on what grounds exactly are they increasing the price… Greedy b@stards…”

NLA Boss demands salary increase from GH¢38,000 to GH¢70,000; cuts workers’ salaries by 13%

0

Mohammed Abdul-Salam, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has been exposed for allegedly demanding an 84 per cent overall adjustment of salary.

Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, Charles McCarthy stated, “When he came to the NLA, the workers were fighting for improved working conditions, but he has not worked on that.

Charles Maccarthy further alleged that the NLA Boss withdrew $108,000 for accommodation(GH¢ 1.2million) within 3 months upon assuming office without the approval of his board.

He further added that the NLA Boss currently pays himself $6,000 (GH¢ 61,800) every month as rent allowance.

He added, “Before the coming of the board, he had already withdrew  $108,000 (GH¢ 1.2million) within 3 months upon assuming office. He is paying himself $6,000 (GH¢ 61,800) every month as rent allowance; is he renting Jubilee House? Where in Accra would rent be $6,000 a month? Maybe we are the ones in the village. Even Jubilee House will not cost that amount”.

“Would anti-LGBTQ+ law put food on our tables?” – Rev Bansah quizzes

0

The Founder of the Centre for Religion and Public Life (CRPL) and lecturer in Religion and Human Values at the University of Cape Coast, Rev Canon Dr Confidence Bansah, has quizzed whether the anti-LGBTQ+ law will put food and drink on the tables of Ghanaians.

However, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, the Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, has said the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law was a priority for the NDC in opposition and should be a top priority for them in government.

“I would have wished that he stayed there but to say it is not a top priority… because during the campaign period, it was a priority matter.

“Reducing petroleum taxes will not affect the 2026 Budget” – Amin Adam

0

Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the former, has told the Mahama government that a reduction of taxes on petroleum products will not affect the 2026 Budget.

According to Amin Adam, the current global oil price dynamics provide sufficient fiscal space for tax relief.

He asserted that the government is already benefiting from higher-than-projected crude oil prices amid the ongoing Middle East tensions.

In a Facebook post on April 2, Dr Amin Adam stated, “Reducing petroleum taxes will not affect the 2026 Budget”.

“What the government has not told Ghanaians is that it has been gaining from the increase in international crude oil prices since the US-Israel-Iran war started,” he said.

He added, “At these prices, the government is gaining additional windfall revenue of more than GH¢8 billion this year”.

“The calls for the government to intervene by reducing the levies are therefore well placed… Revenue shortfalls… will be recovered from the new additional revenue,” he added.

“Government must act now,” he stressed.

His remarks come on the heels of growing calls by transport unions, including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, and civil society organisations demanding the removal of the GH¢1 levy imposed on every litre of petroleum product.

The Deputy Industrial and Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Samuel Amoah, has told the John Mahama-led NDC government to abolish fuel taxes within 48 hours or face fare hikes.
