Lincoln University cancels Mahama’s Honorary Degree over Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ bill

0

The Ghana Embassy in the United States has expressed disappointment following Lincoln University’s decision to cancel the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree, honoris causa, for President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Ghana Embassy in the United States, the university’s decision was communicated just hours before the scheduled visit on Thursday, March 26.

The Lincoln University decision is alleged to be based on  President Mahama’s perceived position on Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-gay Bill currently before Parliament.

The Ghana Embassy in the United States explained that no concerns were raised during the university’s due diligence and vetting processes.

Part of Ghana’s Embassy statement read, “It is both surprising and regrettable that such concerns have surfaced at this late stage, particularly with the President already in the United States in anticipation of the visit”.

It will be recalled that Lincoln University had earlier announced on March 19, 2026, that it would be conferring the honour on the President for his global leadership.

Portions of Lincoln University’s earlier statement read, “Lincoln University is proud to announce that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana and the African Union’s Champion for Advancing the Cause of Justice and the Payment of Reparations, will receive an honorary doctorate from the university on March 26, 2026.

“This is coming in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service, democratic governance, peaceful international and inter-African relationships, and global advocacy for justice, equality, and education.”

“Lincoln University is deeply honoured to welcome President John Dramani Mahama to our campus and to bestow upon him an honorary degree in recognition of his distinguished leadership,” Dr Allen said in the statement.

However, in another update, Lincoln University’s official website stated that it has cancelled the President’s visit, citing what it described as “unforeseen circumstances” for the decision.

The update read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the university is cancelling the visit from John Dramani Mahama, President of The Republic of Ghana, originally scheduled for Thursday, March 26th”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has made a definitive statement on the pending anti-LGBTQ bill legislation, declaring that he will assent to the bill if it is passed by Parliament.

According to John Mahama, a person’s gender is determined at birth, adding that the family is the foundation of our nation.

He added that there is no question what Ghanaians believe in.

Speaking to leaders of the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, President Mahama stated, “We agree with the Speaker to relay the bill and let Parliament debate it, and then if there are any amendments or whatever that have to be done. If the Parliament of the people of Ghana endorses the bill, votes on it, and passes it, and it comes to me as President, I will sign it”.

“A person’s gender is determined at birth, and the family is the foundation of our nation. That is our position. So, there are no questions or equivocations about what we believe,” President Mahama noted.

He added, “We agree with the Speaker to relay the bill and let Parliament debate it, and then if there are any amendments or whatever that have to be done”.

Also, the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ bill, has been laid before Parliament for consideration for a second time.

On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, following its First Reading, Speaker Bagbin referred the bill to the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for further scrutiny and reporting.

“I was put in a cell with a South Korean convicted of murder” – Kwesi Pratt recounts his experience in Nsawam Prison

0

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran Ghanaian media personality, has detailed his experience at the Nsawam Prison.

According to Kwesi Pratt Jnr, he was put in a cell with a South Korean convicted of murder.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr also narrated how inmates supplemented their diets under harsh conditions, recounting how inmates would hunt and kill pythons.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Kwesi Pratt Jnr stated, “I was put in the same cell with a South Korean who had been convicted of murder. The officer informed me before he was brought in”.

“He taught me how to make beer using corn dough. We mixed it with yeast, tied it in cloth, and left it for a week or two, depending on how strong we wanted it. After that, you mix it with water, and it becomes beer,” he explained.

He added, “He would go out to work, kill a python, and bring it into the yard. That was how he supplemented his nutrition”.

“In prison, if you don’t get visitors, malnutrition can kill you. Many inmates depended on that meat to survive,” he added.

Also, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has revealed that he has been in prison about eighteen times.

According to Kwesi Pratt, he has spent nights in the Akuse Prison, Navrongo Prison, Tamale Prison, and Usher Fort Prison.

He further added that he has also been detained at the Police Headquarters and the cells of the Bureau of National Investigation a couple of times.

Kwesi Pratt disclosed that the longest period he has spent behind bars is six months.

Kwesi Pratt Jr. further disclosed, “The last time we sat down and counted, I’ve been to prison 18 times. I have been in the guard room in what is known as Gonja Barracks twice. I have been detained at the police headquarters a couple of times, and at Bureau of National Investigation cells a couple of times.”

“I’ve been detained at the Usher Fort Prison, I’ve been detained at the Akuse Prisons, I’ve been detained at the Navrongo Prison, Tamale Prison and several police cells,” he disclosed.

Kwesi Pratt further added, “There was one time I was told why I’ve been arrested, and I was actually interrogated, and that was once. This was in 1992 or 1993. I was arrested with Professor Adu Boahen, and we were charged with obstruction of justice”.

Also, Kwesi Pratt revealed that the Akuse Prison was his most difficult experience across the prisons, adding that food was served in a chamber pot.

According to Kwesi Pratt, in prison, there was a standard meal called Manpower and Zontoli.

“One of my most horrible experiences was in Akuse Prison, where they served the food in a chamber pot. There is what they call Manpower and Zontoli, which was standard. The Manpower was the soup, and this soup, if you look at it, you could see the few ingredients that were used to prepare it at the bottom; it was transparent. The Zontoli is supposed to be banku, but it was as hard as wood,” he added.

Don’t be lured into a war that is not yours – EU warns Ghanaians over Russia-Ukraine war

0

The European Union has cautioned Ghanaians against being lured into the Russia-Ukraine War, which has nothing to do with them.

According to the European Union, the conflict does not concern Ghana and should not involve its citizens.

The High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, condemned the practice, describing Russia’s recruitment of Africans as unethical.

Speaking at the signing of a security and defence partnership between the EU and Ghana on Tuesday, March 24, Kaja Kallas stated, “Russia’s war is a threat to Europe and also has consequences beyond its borders, including in Ghana.

Beyond Russia’s unethical recruitment of African nationals, it places economic hardship on citizens. Your people should not be lured into a war that is not theirs,” Kallas said.

Kaja Kallas remarks follow, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that at least 55 Ghanaians have been killed fighting in the war in Russia-Ukraine war, with two others currently being held as prisoners of war.

According to Ablakwa, the figures were disclosed to him during high-level talks in Kyiv between Ghanaian officials and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha.

He detailed that Ukrainian authorities have documented 1,780 Africans from 36 countries who have been lured by criminal trafficking networks to join the war against Ukraine.

Ablakwa detailed that 272 Ghanaians are believed to have been lured into battle since 2022, with an estimated 55 having been killed and 2 captured as prisoners of war.

In a post shared on X, Ablakwa wrote, “During our engagements and media briefing, Ukrainian authorities revealed that from their credible intelligence gathering, they have documented 1,780 Africans from 36 countries who have been lured by criminal trafficking networks to join the war against Ukraine.

Even more depressing and frightening, we were informed that 272 Ghanaians are believed to have been lured into battle since 2022 for which an estimated 55 have been killed and 2 captured as prisoners of war”.

He further added, “As a responsible government, we cannot turn a blind eye to these heartbreaking statistics. These are not just numbers; they represent human lives, the hope of many Ghanaian families and our nation.

That is why the government is determined to raise awareness and embark on intensive public education so that our youth will be protected.

The Mahama Administration is committed to tracking and dismantling all dark web illegal recruitment schemes operating within our jurisdiction. This is not our war and we cannot allow our youth to become human shields for others.

It is noteworthy that our two captured compatriots spoke out passionately about the grave dangers during my visit and cautioned the youth not to be tempted, regardless of the monetary enticements — I expect all our young people to listen to them”.

In related news, a Ghanaian man serving in the Russian army has bragged about the huge financial earnings he receives.

According to the Ghanaian man in the Russian army, the Russian army is the best, adding that his salary can feed a person’s family for 3 years.

In a video shared by CNN journalist Larry Madowo via X on February 14, 2025, the Ghanaian man was seen in a Russian military uniform.

The Ghanaian man further urged other Africans to come and join the Russian army, as it offers lucrative financial incentives.

In the viral video, the Ghanaian man stated, “The Russian army is the best army, it is not for kids. Understand it. You hear popo? Give and take. My salary can feed your father, mother, and family for like two years or three years,” the Ghanaian man, whose identity has not been disclosed, said.

In the video, a Ukrainian official who also spoke about African serving in the Russian army attributed the situation to economic hardship.

He stated, “As we understand, it is deception, and secondly, it is economic causes, because they are promised serious money for easy jobs, so why not?”

“We need jobs; enough is enough” – Graduates with disabilities stage protest

0

Some unemployed, qualified Graduates with disabilities have hit the streets of Accra demanding equal job opportunities.

According to the unemployed qualified Graduates with disabilities, they are demanding a strict enforcement of inclusive fairness in recruitment processes.

Reports suggest the group began their march from the Accra Rehabilitation Centre in Adabraka on March 24.

The unemployed qualified Graduates during their protest were spotted holding placards which read,  “We need jobs; enough is enough,” “Break the barriers, not our spirit,” and “We can work, we are capable”.

Speaking to JoyNews, the protesters stated, “Unemployment has really been a big problem amongst persons with disabilities, especially because personally it’s very difficult to depend on the people that have taken care of you from childhood at this big age of mine”.

Another protester stated, “It’s very difficult for me. I’ve not been myself; I’ve been looking for employment, and it has become a problem”.

“You have to depend on your guardian for every single thing you want, and I don’t like it that way. So I wish the government would come to our aid and grant us employment so that we can work,”  a third participant added.

In related news, Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has said job creation under President John Dramani Mahama has been significantly slowed by debt distress and restrictions under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

Seth Tekper stressed that the National Democratic Congress administration inherited debt distress and restrictions under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

According to him, the NDC government has plans to create jobs, but Ghana’s prevailing economic conditions limited what could be achieved in the early months of the Mahama administration.

Speaking on Joy News, Seth Terkper stated, “If you look at the NDC manifesto, there’s a plan to create jobs already. But when you come into an economy where, under the IMF programme we inherited, compared to what we handed over, all you can do is borrow T-Bills.

“You’ve been shut out of your own domestic bond market, which we set up. You’ve been shut out of the external bond market because you’ve defaulted”.

He added, “Economists have something called counter-cyclical policies. It means that you know that the economy rises and falls — it’s good and bad”

“If you don’t have sufficient food, and you import with the reserves, it affects the currency. If it’s not something you can predict for later, it’s something you should know could happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nana Aba Anamoah, a renowned Ghanaian media personality, has called out the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Rashid Pelpuo, over the scale of youth unemployment in this country.

The renowned Ghanaian media personality highlighted that Dr Rashid Pelpuo needs to make his DMs and office more accessible if he truly wants to understand the scale of youth unemployment in this country.

She detailed that the numbers being quoted about jobs created simply don’t match what people are living through every day.

Nana Aba Anamoah further questioned the Labour Minister, where exactly are these jobs he and heads of agencies under his ministry claim to have created?

In a post shared on X, Nana Aba Anamoah wrote, “The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment (Dr Rashid Pelpuo) needs to make his DMs and office more accessible, if he truly wants to understand the scale of youth unemployment in this country.

The numbers being quoted about jobs created simply don’t match what people are living through every day. So where exactly are these jobs he and heads of agencies under his ministry claim to have created?

Why am I receiving countless messages from frustrated young people about their inability to land jobs despite doing everything right?

What is the plan for graduates who have been stuck in a cycle of applications?

And let’s be honest, when even your own foot soldiers are shutting down NHIA offices, it raises serious questions about this narrative of widespread job creation.

Where are the jobs?

PS: There’ll always be that one guy who’ll ask What did NPP do for them?’

They’re out of power for a reason, so grow up”.

Konkonte is effective for treating ulcers and gastric issues – UCC lecturer

0

Alberta Bondzi-Simpson, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at the University of Cape Coast, has revealed that konkonte is effective for treating ulcers and gastric issues.

The UCC Senior Lecturer advises Ghanaians with gastric problems to eat konkonte with soup or stew at least twice weekly to help with healing.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Citi FM’s Heritage Month on Indigenous Food Staples, on Monday, March 23, 2026, Alberta Bondzi-Simpson, “Kokonte is very high in iodine. If you have any gastric problems that have to do with a sore in your digestive system, then ‘kokonte’ is your thing. This is basically eating iodine into your system”.

“Eat it constantly, at least two times a week, and you wouldn’t have to go to the doctor for ulcers or minor ulcers. So far as it’s in there, it will heal. You can eat it without soup,” she said.

She further advised, “I was amused to find out that cassava contains a certain amount of protein. It has some mineral nutrients, you can pound it and eat it as ampesi. Go for the slim white cassava for ampesi. The small ones. It’s palatable, and you can pair it with garden egg stew, kako [dried fish], and flavourful supaku [dried fish]”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the UCC lecturers’ revelation stated, “This is the best research a Ghanaian has ever done. God bless her”.

“Stop spreading false information!

She has done no research on this topic. In fact, she is not a medical doctor or a biological scientist. Her “Dr.” title comes from a doctorate in hospitality”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “This is what our university lecturers should be doing, propounding articles concerning our local intake and our livelihood settings, not always depending on unfamiliar cultures and behaviours from the western world”.

“My mother has been doing this for a long time mmom”, a netizen added.

A netizen added, “She was my lecturer at UPSA. A very solid 10/10 woman”.

Delay in modernising road tolls holding up revenue mobilisation – Minority

0

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed concerns about the government’s failure to follow through on the implementation of the new road toll policy after fifteen months in office.

They argue that the delay in rolling out the proposed modernised tolling system has hindered a crucial revenue stream that could have been used to fund road development in the country.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, March 24, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Roads and Transportation Committee, stated, “The current government strongly criticised the previous administration for suspending the road toll collection and promised Ghanaians that road tolls would be reintroduced under a new framework.

“Fifteen months into the current administration, this promise remains unfulfilled. There has been no visible commencement of the process to reintroduce road tolls, despite earlier commitments made to Ghanaians”.

This continued delay raises questions regarding the government’s policy consistency and revenue mobilisation strategy for road maintenance,” he said.

Also, the Minority in Parliament has called on the government to release full details of contracts awarded under its major road infrastructure programme, the ‘Big Push.

Kennedy Osei Nyarko stated, “We strongly believe that the government must, as a matter of urgency, publish the full details of these contracts. This will give Ghanaians the opportunity to independently assess the policy and promote transparency in the execution of the programme”.

The minority comment comes on the heels of The Fourth Estate publication, which stated, “Data available to The Fourth Estate indicates that in the last seven months, the ministry has awarded 107 road contracts. Contrary to the President’s promise to ensure competitiveness and transparency in the awarding of public contracts, not a single one of 107 contracts was awarded based on competitive tendering.

A whopping 81 out of the 107 road contracts worth over GHS73 billion were awarded through sole-sourcing. The remaining 26 contracts worth about GHS8 billion were awarded through selective tendering. This means over 90% of the amount of money expected to be spent on roads under the Big Push programme so far was given out through sole-sourcing.

Despite this glaring contrast, the majority leader and leader of government business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, audaciously proclaimed to Parliament on March 11, 2026, that “let it be known, the era of the sole-sourced contract is dead.”

However, Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board (GoldBod), has called out the Fourth Estate following its publication of over 81 sole-sourced contracts under Big Push.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, there is no evidence in the Fourth Estate publication that shows that the use of sole sourcing for the said Big Push road projects was unjustified.

He noted that in opposition, the NDC never said sole-sourcing was a sin or unlawful, adding that under the Big Push, contracts were not awarded to a select few but rather carefully selected, multiple, competent and experienced contractors with demonstrable capacity to complete the works on time.

Sammy Gyamfi highlighted that the fact that the NDC in opposition spoke against sole-sourcing in the past does not mean sole-sourcing in government must be condemned.

Sammy Gyamif explained that under the Big Push road projects, all projects were awarded through sole sourcing prior to PPA approval, as the same was justified on grounds of URGENCY.

“What a hypocritical world” – Nigel Gaisie calls out Ghanaians double standards

0

Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the Founder and Leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, has called out Ghanaians for their double standards towards some Ghanaian Prophets.

According to Nigel Gaisie, it is hypocritical how some Ghanaian mam of God are totally disliked.

Nigel Gaisie cited the death of the two sons of the Hebron Prayer Camp leader in a tragic helicopter crash at Tema Community One, with the death of Rev Eastwood’s two children and the death of Prophet Dr Badu Kobi’s son.

The man of God highlighted that, when Prophet Dr Badu Kobi lost his son, Ghanaians alleged he used them for rituals, when the Hebron Prayer Camp leader and Rev Eastwood lost their children, it was a disaster.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on March 23, 2026, Nigel Gaisie wrote, “Watching the speech of Elder Donkor at Hebron prayer camp, who lost his two sons in a recent plane crash. When his two sons die, they are gone to God.

When Rev Eastwood lost his two children in an accident, it was a disaster. When Prophet Dr Badu Kobi lost his son, that one dierr’he has used his son for rituals. What a world of people we have. What a hypocritical world, indeed, the prophets are TRUELY HATED BY THEIR OWN”.

Nigel Gaisie further condemned an incident involving Fire Oja, with some unknown individuals reportedly disrupting activities at his church.

“Again, I condemn with the highest level of force, what the unguided and unscrupulous masked men went to do at Prophet *FireOja’s church. I call on the Ghana police to arrest them; the Ministry of Chieftancy and Religious Affairs should act because Ghana is not a jungle.

Moreso, if not a private hate and interest against the prophetic ministry, no sensible person must attack a man/woman of God behind the pulpit, you can wait or at best go to Court ***ENOUGH OF THE DISRESPECT AGAINST THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY IN GHANA….ENOUGH..’.We are one people, let’s live in peace, dignity and love….PNG”, Nigel Gaisie added.

His comments follow, Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor, the Founder and Leader of Hebron Prayer Camp, who lost his two sons in the Tema Community 1 aircraft crash, has broken his silence.

According to the Hebron Camp pastor, his wife told him that what they are going through happened to many people long before they were even born.

The man of God cited Biblical characters like Adam, Naomi, and Job as he quoted scriptures to encourage the congregation about facing trials.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, March 22, 2026, Elder Donkor stated, “My wife said to me that what has happened to us and we are going through happened to many people long before we were even born. I asked her why she said that, and she explained to me that several people, even in the Bible, experienced this long before we were born”.

“Adam went through the same experience with his first two children when the firstborn killed the secondborn child. Naomi also experienced the same thing of losing a husband and her children, and even Job, who lost 10 children,” he noted.

He added, “I know that by the grace of God, everything he has destined for us shall surely come to pass. Let us console ourselves and be strong in the Lord because God is about to do bigger things in this church”.

“Following the incident, I’ve had several renowned world leaders reach out to me. I didn’t know that the church was well known and had a high reach among people,” he revealed.

It will be recalled that the two victims of Monday, March 16, 2026, Sky Arrow microlight aircraft crash in Tema have been identified as sons of a popular pastor.

The two victims of the microlight aircraft crash have been identified as two sons of the founder of Hebron Prayer Camp near Nsawam, Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor.

One of the sons, a distinguished pilot and instructor, Captain Frank Donkor, and his younger brother,

Captain Frank Donkor is reported to have taken his brother on the ill-fated flight.

Captain Frank Donkor, who was piloting the aircraft at the time of the incident, is described as a seasoned airman who held both Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) ratings.

Why Road Ministry awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over ₵73bn in 7 months under Big Push

0

Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board (GoldBod), has explained why the Road Ministry awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over ₵73 billion in 7 months under Big Push.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, sole sourcing is lawful, but the unjustified use and abuse of sole sourcing is what President Mahama and the NDC have condemned.

Sammy Gyamfi explained that Ghana’s deplorable state of our roads is one of the biggest national security threats, which led to the Road Ministry not resorting to the National Competitive Tendering process for the award of road projects under the Big Push Project.

The NDC National Communication Officer detailed that a National Competitive Tendering process would have lasted months, which could have delayed the completion of most of the projects beyond 2028.

He cited the competitive tendering process for the Road Toll project, which has still not been completed after about a year due to its complexities.

In a post on X, Sammy Gyamfi wrote, “1. The deplorable state of our roads is one of the biggest national security threats we face as a country. Bad roads have claimed many lives through fatal road accidents, armed robbery etc.

2. I am reliably informed that the surveying, designing, and Costing of Big Push road projects alone took the Ministry of Roads about 7 months to complete.

3. Resorting to the National Competitive Tendering process for the award of these critical road projects would have taken another couple of months before the projects could even commence. This could have delayed the completion of most of the projects beyond 2028.

4. Competitive tendering processes have, in some cases, lasted for months. A typical example is the competitive tendering process for the Road Toll project that has not still be completed in about a year due to its complexities.

5. Section 40 of the Public Procurement Law provides for the single-source procurement method on grounds of urgency, among others, subject to the approval of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA). Thus, sole sourcing is lawful. The unjustified use and abuse of sole sourcing is what President Mahama and the NDC have condemned.

6. There is not a scintilla of evidence in the Fourth Estate publication that shows that the use of sole sourcing for the said Big Push road projects was unjustified or that there were any breaches of the law or abuse of the process. Neither was any evidence of the cost of the projects being inflated adduced by the Fourth Estate.

6. In opposition, the NDC never said sole-sourcing was a sin or unlawful. We only preached against the unjustified use and abuse of sole-sourcing in the award of government projects, some of which were established by the Auditor General to be inflated. In fact, some of us cited audit findings of the Auditor General to show that sole-sourced cocoa road projects, some of which were awarded to Bawumia’s brother were inflated.

7. In the case of the Big Push road projects, all projects that were awarded through sole sourcing received prior PPA approval as same was justified on grounds of URGENCY. Value for Money audits were conducted. The contracts were not awarded to a select few but rather carefully selected, multiple, competent and experienced contractors with demonstrable capacity to complete the works on time. None of the contracts have been established to be inflated. The urgency of the projects cannot be denied. And like all road projects, payments are based on actual work done certified by independent Consultants.

8. As a matter of fact, 23 out of 84 Big Push road projects, such as Suame Interchange, Ofankor- Nsawam, Adenta- Dodowa, etc. are inherited road projects that were all awarded by the previous NPP government through sole-sourcing with no dedicated funding. This government has simply novated the projects, maintained the contractors and provided for funding for them under the Big Push policy. The 23 road projects were not re-awarded. Yet, the Fourth Estate has mischievously added all these projects to their list of sole-sourced contracts awarded by this government. Clearly they could have done a better job.

9. So what’s the point really? The NDC spoke against sole-sourcing in the past so every resort by the NDC to sole-sourcing in government must be condemned? Is that the logic being canvassed by the Fourth Estate?

A classical case of comparing oranges with apples”, his post concluded.

His comments follow reports by The Fourth Estate detailing that President John Dramani Mahama and his government have been paying lip service in terms of promises to minimise sole-source procurement to encourage competitive bidding.

President John Mahama, on numerous occasions, has reiterated his government’s commitment to make single-source procurement a rare exception rather than the norm.

In the NDC People’s Manifesto, they also pledged to “make single-sourced procurement (sole-sourcing) an exception and not the rule.”

John Mahama, during his recent SONA, also repeated his vow and commitment, “Mr Speaker, we are bringing legislation to this House to tighten our procurement processes by banning sole-sourced contracts, except in exceptional circumstances,” the President told Parliament.

However, after one year in office, the report by The Fourth Estate has unearthed that the Road Ministry awarded 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over GHS73 billion in 7 months.

The Fourth Estate, in a report, stated, “Data available to The Fourth Estate indicates that in the last seven months, the ministry has awarded 107 road contracts.

However, Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, when asked about how contracts under the Big Push programme were awarded, disclosed that they resorted largely to selective tendering.

Kwame Governs Agbodza explained, “Contracts were procured predominantly through restrictive tendering to ensure rapid project commencement,” he said. “Before procurement, the Ministry and agencies conducted extensive engineering studies, including feasibility studies and seal of quality and commitment authorisation for each project.”

“Contracting under the Big Push fully aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto and government policy. Public contracts are awarded to competent, experienced, and well-resourced contractors, prioritising Ghanaian firms to build local capacity,” he said.

Mr Agbodza, however, in opposition was a critic of the sole-sourcing of road contracts.

The current Road Minister in opposition claimed, “Part of the reason why the government is unable to build more roads is because of the use of sole-sourcing in the award of road projects, [which] inflates the cost of such contracts.”

Casual staff at Tamale hospital strike over 5 months of unpaid salaries

0

Some casual staff at the Tamale Central Hospital have embarked on a sit-down strike following their salaries being unpaid for over five months.

The strike action by the casual staff at the Tamale Central Hospital has begun to take a toll on sanitation at the facility, with many overflowing bins and a strong stench emanating from the washrooms and other sections of the hospital.

Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, March 23, Adam Sulemana Baba, the Secretary of the orderlies, stated, “We are here for almost about 15 years as casual workers. And we have a problem with our salary.

We have worked for almost five months without salary, and due to that, that’s why we went on this strike. We even went to our management during the Ramadan fasting to explain our situation”.

In related health news, the Emergency Medicine Residents at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) have refuted claims that the viral video of patients being treated on the floor is AI-generated.

According to the Emergency Medicine Residents, the videos showing patients being treated on the floor are authentic, not AI-generated.

In a press statement issued on March 23, the residents stated, “We, the Emergency Medicine Residents of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), respond to management’s News Release of March 21, 2026. We write to ensure the public record accurately reflects the conditions under which care is being delivered and the systemic failures that made them inevitable

The Floor Incident: Setting the Record Straight

The video footage is authentic. When the surge in patients exhausted all available beds, chairs were provided. When those chairs were also exhausted, patients had no option but to receive care on the floor. This sequence was witnessed by every member of our clinical team. Characterising this documentation as ‘AI-generated or ‘media slander’ is factually inaccurate and an affront to both patients and staff.

200 Beds Are Not Enough

The procurement of 200 beds, while noted, does not address the crisis. Beds without functional oxygen points, airway equipment, monitoring tools, adequate floor space, and sufficient nursing and physician staffing ratios do not improve care. They congest an already overwhelmed space. A comprehensive, resourced solution is required, not headline figures.

A National Crisis, Not a KBTH Problem

This crisis is a symptom of a fractured national emergency response system driven by:

1. Dysfunctional referral pathways: Patients are dumped at tertiary centres because primary and secondary facilities cannot hold them.

2. Absent pre-hospital coordination: Patients arrive critically ill with no advance notice and no basic interventions initiated

3. No national bed-tracking system makes real-time patient redistribution impossible.

We do not call for more beds in hallways. We call for a strengthened national healthcare grid.

We urge management and the Ministry of Health to move past PR-focused responses and commit to a transparent and systemic reform. The evidence is real. The crisis is real. And the response must be equally real”.

The Emergency Medicine Residents at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) statement follows Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, who had earlier claimed that the viral video of patients on the floor might be  AI-generated.

The Korle Bu CEO claimed that the viral video of patients lying on the floor does not reflect the reality of the hospital’s emergency wards amid ongoing concerns over the “no-bed syndrome.”

He made this clarification during a working visit by the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on Saturday, March 21.

According to the Korle Bu CEO, an increase in patient numbers, but clarified that while some patients may be seated on chairs due to high demand, patients have not slept on the floor.

“We are still reviewing the images to ascertain whether it is AI-generated,” he added.

The Emergency Medicine Residents’ statement follows an alarming viral footage that has surfaced on social media of some patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) seen lying on the bare floors of Ghana’s biggest hospital.

In the viral footage, several patients, visibly frail and in need of urgent care, were captured sleeping on the hard hospital floors.

The alarming video exposed the extent of the lack of beds at wards at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as the ongoing “no bed syndrome” crisis worsens.

“With man this is impossible” – Akufo-Addo says after receiving Anglican honour

0

Former President Akufo-Addo has revealed he has been installed as an Honorary Lay Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua.

According to Akufo-Addo, his installation is a moment as a deeply spiritual milestone in his life of service, adding that with man, it would not be possible, but with God, everything is possible.

Akufo-Addo, in a post on Facebook, detailed that the role comes with responsibilities such as health, evangelism, investment, education, tourism, and hospitality, which he says align with his long-standing commitment to public service and social justice.

He further expressed gratitude to the diocesan bishop, Felix Odei Annancy, the officiating clergy, and the wider Anglican community in Ghana and beyond.

Akufo-Addo’s installation places him among distinguished lay individuals recognised by the Church for their contributions to society and their continued dedication to advancing the Anglican mission.

In a post on Facebook, on Sunday, following the ceremony held at St Peter’s Anglican Cathedral on Passion Akufo-Addo wrote, “On Passion Sunday, which is the fifth Sunday in Lent, I had the honour, upon prayerful consideration, to be installed as Honorary Lay Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua, in the Church of the Province of West Africa, at the St. Peter Anglican Cathedral, Koforidua.

As LAY CANON in the Anglican Communion, I am  honoured by the Diocese and Province for sterling work in public service and social justice to undertake special duties in health, evangelism, investments, education, tourism and hospitality.

My experiences and service, throughout my adult life, have been a testimony of God’s love, and a vindication of the words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as quoted in Matthew 19:26, which states “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

I commit, as I have always, to continued service to the Church, to live a holy life, to pray regularly for God’s blessing upon the work of the Church in the world and especially in this Diocese and the West African Province, and to enter gladly into the succession of those in each generation who have served God through the worship offered in this Cathedral, Diocese and Province.

For this, I remain eternally grateful to His Lordship Rt. Rev. Felix Odei Annancy and the Officiating Clergy of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua in the Church of the Province of West Africa and to the entire Anglican Communion in  Ghana and across the world”.

“Comparing oranges with apples” – Sammy Gyamfi ‘fights’ Fourth Estate over 81 sole-sourced contracts

0

Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board (GoldBod), has called out the Fourth Estate following its publication of over 81 sole-sourced contracts under Big Push.

In a post shared on X, Sammt Gyamfi wrote, “There is not a scintilla of evidence in the Fourth Estate publication that shows that the use of sole sourcing for the said Big Push road projects was unjustified or that there were any breaches of the law or abuse of the process. Neither was any evidence of the cost of the projects being inflated adduced by the Fourth Estate.

So what’s the point really? The NDC spoke against sole-sourcing in the past so every resort by the NDC to sole-sourcing in government must be condemned? Is that the logic being canvassed by the Fourth Estate?

A classical case of comparing oranges with apples”.

Sammy Gyamfi posted further details, “The deplorable state of our roads is one of the biggest national security threats we face as a country. Bad roads have claimed many lives through fatal road accidents, armed robbery etc.

I am reliably informed that the Surveying, Designing and Costing of Big Push road projects alone took the Ministry of Roads about 7 months to complete.

Resorting to the National Competitive Tendering process for the award of these critical road projects would have taken another couple of months before the projects could even commence. This could have delayed the completion of most of the projects beyond 2028.

Competitive tendering processes have, in some cases, lasted for months. A typical example is the competitive tendering process for the Road Toll project that has not still be completed in about a year due to its complexities.

Section 40 of the Public Procurement Law provides for the single-source procurement method on grounds of urgency, among others, subject to the approval of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA). Thus, sole sourcing is lawful. The unjustified use and abuse of sole sourcing is what President Mahama and the NDC have condemned”.

His comments come on the heels of The Fourth Estate publication, which stated, “Data available to The Fourth Estate indicates that in the last seven months, the ministry has awarded 107 road contracts.

“Sole sourcing is lawful” – Sammy Gyamfi defends 81 sole-sourced contracts under Big Push

Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board (GoldBod), has said sole sourcing is lawful, defending the alleged 81 sole-sourced contracts under Big Push.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the unjustified use and abuse of sole sourcing is what President Mahama and the NDC have condemned.

Contrary to the President’s promise to ensure competitiveness and transparency in the awarding of public contracts, not a single one of 107 contracts was awarded based on competitive tendering.

Despite this glaring contrast, the majority leader and leader of government business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, audaciously proclaimed to Parliament on March 11, 2026, that “let it be known, the era of the sole-sourced contract is dead.”

EXPOSED – Road Ministry fingered for awarding 81 sole-sourced contracts worth over ₵73bn in 7 months under Big Push

The current Road Minister in opposition claimed, “Part of the reason why the government is unable to build more roads is because of the use of sole-sourcing in the award of road projects, [which] inflates the cost of such contracts.”

Also, leading members of the NDC, particularly MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, on numerous occasions criticise the sole-sourced contract under the former Akufo-Addo government.

In addition, some civil society leaders have raised concerns about Ghana’s over-reliance on sole sourcing.

Ben Boakye, the Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, asserted that this is not what the NDC government promised Ghanaians.

Also, Anti-corruption crusader Vitus Azeem stated, “It’s surprising that just one year into power, such situations exist. Because, you see, the procurement law talks of competitive bidding. And sole-sourcing or restricted bidding is not the norm.”

Mary Ada, Executive Director of Transparency International Ghana, also lamented, “It’s sad, and the double standards are just too many. And it’s becoming worrisome for those of us who do this on a daily basis.  It’s sad that people who stand on the pulpit to say one thing carry on and do other things.”

“I’ve been to prison 18 times” – Kwesi Pratt Jr. discloses

0

Kwesi Pratt Jr, the Veteran broadcaster and Pan-Africanist, has revealed that he has been in prison about eighteen times.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey on March 23, Kwesi Pratt Jr. disclosed, “The last time we sat down and counted, I’ve been to prison 18 times.

In related news, Retired Major General Edwin Kwamina Sam has recounted his experience in the condemned cells of Nsawam prison after the June 4th Uprising.

History tells us that the 1979 uprising was a dramatic turning point in Ghana’s political and military history, with late Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings staging a coup to overthrow the then-President Dr Hilla Limann’s government.

The June 4th Uprising caused significant mayhem within the military, resulting in the detention of several officers, both high-ranking and junior, by the Rawlings regime.

Retired Major General Edwin Kwamina Sam was one of the officers detained during this period.

He recounted the harsh conditions he and other military personnel endured in the aftermath of the uprising.

According to him, he spent two days at the Nsawam prison where they were served Gari, kako and raw pepper.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Major General Kwamina Sam (Rtd) remembered the cruel treatment that prisoners were subjected to during their confinement.

He stated, “I stayed in Nsawam for two days. This was a condemned cell in Nsawam. There were two bunk beds, with one sleeping on top of the other. Four of us were placed in a room together with our thunderbox [latrine]. We arrived around 5 or 6 PM, and they said the food had already been served. What they gave us was Gari and Kako [salted fish and raw pepper].”

“Unfortunately, the next morning, the warden came in and asked who caused the mess. They then asked the personnel to clean up the mess themselves. It was a humiliating experience,” Major General Sam recounted.

He further added that the next day the meal served at the time was “koko” [porridge] without sugar, accompanied by five days’ bread.

“It was so hard that we had to put salt in it just to make it edible,” he said.

He further narrated, “The prison stores had been closed, so those who arrived earlier received mattresses for the beds. However, those who came later, including Major General Sam, were forced to sleep on hard springs without any mattress”.

“Can you imagine lying on a spring bed? It was uncomfortable, but I slept like a baby because it didn’t even feel like I was on it without a mattress,” he said.

He further detailed that for Nsawam, anything one wants if they had money, they could get anything they wanted.

“If you wanted Black Label whisky or corned beef, you could get it,” he added.

“It’s a no-brainer, I’m considering legal action” – Ibrahim Mahama on alleged assault by Black Maria

0

Ibrahim Mahama, a Ghanaian artist, has it that it is a no-brainer; he is considering legal action against the members of the Black Maria, the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team.

It will be recalled that Ibrahim Mahama, who was allegedly assaulted by the IGP’s special operations team, also known as Black Maria, in Tamale.

Reports suggest he was beaten for filming the Black Maria team as they unsuccessfully forced their way through a traffic jam while on a mission.

Speaking in an interview, Ibrahim Mahama stated, “They broke into our bus, forced me to open my phone and deleted the pictures. From the beginning to the end, everything was an assault”.

“The Police (Black Maria) team with their sirens tried to pass through the traffic by clearing the way, but were not successful. After several attempts, they began confronting the motorists, which resulted in physical assault on the civilians,” he explained.

“They beat us up and forced my boss Ibrahim Mahama to open his password and delete the videos. They took us to Sakasaka Police Station and beat us up again,” Ibrahim Mahommed further stated.

Following the assault, Ibrahim Mahama and the other injured persons were taken to Habannah Hospital in Tamale for treatment.

The artist lost two of his front teeth as a result of the attack.

Speaking at a press conference in Tamale on Monday, March 23, Ibrahim Mahama stated, “Certainly, we are considering legal action. It’s very important. It’s a no-brainer. We have to do it”.

“It’s not for me, but it’s actually for everyone else because if this could happen to me, as well-known as I am, then what about the people on the street? Who’s going to speak for that person? So, we have to do it for the benefit of the collective society that we’re in.”

Ibrahim Mahama further added, “That evening, I was meant to travel to the UK because I had to go and give some lectures in some schools from Cambridge to Oxford to the Royal College in London, and also continue to Helsinki for work and then to Amsterdam and then to South Africa before coming home”.

“But all those trips have to be cancelled, and I don’t think I can even travel for the next month because the last few days I have not even eaten solid food because my lips are all bruised, and three of my teeth are broken, I have sores in my mouth. Currently, it has put my entire life on hold.”

The Ghanaian artist further raised concerns about Black Maria’s alleged pattern of abuse.

He added, “Of course, we’ve heard many stories about the same unit and the brutalities. That’s why they could say that we could kill you and nothing will happen.”

“If at the end of the day, through these brutal actions, a lot of us young people will not feel like we need to stay in a place like this, then it’s rather on the bad side of justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed a probe into the assault on the internationally-acclaimed artist and Founder and owner of Red Clay Studio, Ibrahim Mahama, by “some officers”, but denies Black Maria’s involvement.

According to the Police, Black Maria Team was withdrawn from the Northern Region by the IGP on March 5.

In a statement issued by the Police, they wrote, “The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a reported assault on visual artist, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, by some officers in Tamale.

The Command assures the public that updates of the ongoing investigation will be duly communicated.

Meanwhile, claims in sections of the media that the Special Operations Team (The Black Maria) was involved in this case are false, since the team has been out of the Northern Region following their withdrawal by the Inspector-General of Police on Thursday, the 5th of March. 2026”.

‘If we joke, they will kill us, and nothing would happen’ – Ibrahim Mahama narrates alleged assault by Black Maria

0

Ibrahim Mahama, the Renowned Ghanaian visual artist and CEO of Red Clay, has narrated the alleged assault he suffered in Tamale at the hands of the IGP’s Special Task Force, commonly known as “Black Maria”.

According to Ibrahim Mahama, the alleged IGP’s Special Task Force, commonly known as “Black Maria”, started punching him in the face.

Ibrahim Mahama further detailed that the police officers threatened to kill them at the police station, and nothing would happen.

Speaking in a video clip from a public engagement shared by GTV on March 23, 2026, Ibrahim Mahama narrated, “They started punching me in the face. I still needed to open my phone so that they could delete whatever photos and videos were on it. And I said, I’ll open it. And then they kept inflicting their pain on me. So at some point, I just opened the phone for them. And then Jalil himself was there. He was at the scene in the beginning; he was next to us. I saw his face in the car when he got down.

“When we got to the station, he himself even attempted to slap me when we were there, and my uncle told him that, oh, don’t you … Even when we got there, the police officers who were on site at Sakasaka told him that, but don’t you know that that’s the guy for Red Clay, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, the one who was given a diplomatic passport. When they said, ‘we don’t care, diplomatic my foot’,” he said.

He further narrated, “I remember when we were at the station, one of them even authored a statement that if we joke, ‘they will kill us and nothing would happen’,”

Ibrahim Mahama further disclosed that not even the mention of the name of his father, Alhaji Savannah, could save him from the hands of the “Black Maria”.

“They said that ‘Alhaji Savannah, what’s his contribution to their party? Don’t you know how we suffered for the party? What nonsense are you talking about?’ So at that point, I realised that there was actually no hope. We didn’t have a phone, nothing. We couldn’t do anything,”v he said.

According to him, the police’s claim that they were saving him and his team from a mob attack was completely false, adding that the video showing his driver begging the leader of “Black Maria” was doctored.

It will be recalled that Ibrahim Mahama, who was allegedly assaulted by the IGP’s special operations team, also known as Black Maria, in Tamale.

Viral video of patients being treated on the floor authentic, not AI-generated – Korle Bu Emergency Residents

0

The Emergency Medicine Residents at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) have refuted claims that the viral video of patients being treated on the floor is AI-generated.

The development follows President John Mahama, who, at the State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2026, warned all health facilities against turning away patients who report to their facility for emergency treatment.

According to John Mahama, every Ghanaian who seeks medical attention must be attended to.

He explained that health workers do not need to have a comfortable bed to save a patient.

Addressing the nation on Friday, February 27, President Mahama stated, “This year, the government will fully roll out a free primary healthcare programme, removing all cost barriers at the primary level where it is mostly needed, while strengthening prevention, screening, and health promotion, especially for non-communicable diseases”.

“Mr Speaker, the Ministry of Health is expected to issue guidelines to eliminate the unacceptable no-bed syndrome. Patients facing medical emergencies must be received and given help, even under makeshift conditions. You don’t need to have a comfortable bed to save a patient”.

Mahama boldly warned, “No patient must be turned away from any health facility they report to”.

Catholic Bishop files affidavit in suit challenging the ban of hijabs and Islamic rites by Wesley Girls

0

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has filed an affidavit at the Supreme Court in support of an amicus curiae brief regarding the ban on hijabs and other Islamic rites by Wesley Girls’ Senior High School.

Reports suggest the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference affidavit was filed on behalf of the bishops’ conference by Most Rev Fr Joseph Kwaku Afrifah-Agyekum, the Bishop of Koforidua and Episcopal Chairman for Education of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

According to the Catholic Bishop, their affidavit is expected to assist the court in its determination of the matter, contending that such directives violate provisions of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, particularly those guaranteeing freedom of conscience, religion, and belief.

In the affidavit, Bishop Afrifah-Agyekum detailed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to Guide Religious Tolerance in Schools, Agreed and Adopted by the Government-Assisted and Private Mission Schools, which was validated on April 15, 2024.

The Catholic Bishop argued that the MoU was adopted in April 2024 by government-assisted and private mission schools to promote mutual respect and accommodation of diverse religious practices.

Part of the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court by the conference reads, “I am advised by the Church’s lawyers and verily believe that my present affidavit is required to verify the facts and documents relied upon in the amicus curiae brief. I hereby depose to my instant affidavit verifying the facts contained in the statement of case filed for and on behalf of the Church.

“The only document referred to in the amicus curiae brief is the Memorandum of Understanding to Guide Religious Tolerance in Schools, Agreed and Adopted by the Government-Assisted and Private Mission Schools, validated on April 15, 2024, which is marked CS”.

It will be recalled that the debate was once again ignited following Dominic Ayine, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, responding to a legal challenge over religious rules at Wesley Girls’ Senior High School (SHS).

According to the Attorney General, Wesley Girls is not a public school in the ordinary sense. It is a school owned by the Methodist Church but managed and funded by the government of Ghana.

In December 2024, Shafic Osman, a Ghanaian lawyer and PhD candidate at the London School of Economics, sued Wesley Girls’ Senior High School and the Government at the Supreme Court.

The case filed cited Wesley Girls’ restricting Muslim students from wearing the hijab, fasting during Ramadan, and practising other aspects of their faith.

Shafic Osman argued that a public school cannot lawfully restrict the religious rights of Muslim students nor compel them to practise a faith they do not subscribe to.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has ordered the Wesley Girls Senior High School to formally respond to allegations that it prevents Muslim students from practising their religion in the school.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has finally broken his silence concerning the Wesley Girls‘ Muslim students’ brouhaha.

According to President John Mahama, he does not see any point of dispute, as faith-based organisations have already agreed in their own MoU to make room for the recognition of different faiths.

Speaking during a meeting with the National Peace Council on December 10, 2025, President Mahama stated, “There is a matter before the Supreme Court which is yet to be determined. If you read what the faith-based organisations agreed in their own MoU, I don’t see any point of dispute.

“They all accept that if there is a mission school, it has its faith orientation, but within that faith orientation, there must be recognition of diversity. It is right there in the MoU. I don’t want to suggest it, but I think the Supreme Court has its work cut out for it because the same people signed that MoU, so I don’t see what the contention there is,” he said.

“What is meant for you will come” – Fifi Kwetey drops cryptic message along with a photo of Zanetor

0

Fifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has shared a post on social media, which has rekindled rumours of President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to appoint Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings as Minister of Defence.

The NDC General Secretary dropped a cryptic post, which suggests that what is meant for one will come together at the right time.

In a social media post shared on Monday, March 23, 2026, Fifi Kwetey and Dr Agyemang Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, were captured in a photo, both smiling.

The NDC General Secretary, in his post, wrote, “Don’t rush your journey. What is meant for you will come together at the right time. Stay patient. Stay consistent.

“Have a great and peaceful week,”

In related news, rumours last year alleged that Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was emerging as a top contender for the Defence Minister position.

According to reports, Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings is emerging as a strong favourite for the next Defence Minister, with many within the ruling National Democratic Congress and civil society pushing her nomination.

It has been alleged that her supporters argue that she brings integrity, discipline and a fresh strategic outlook, while insiders say discussions are intensifying ahead of an expected ministerial reshuffle.

However,  President John Dramani Mahama in December 2025 told Ghanaians speculating about his appointing a Defence, Environment Minister to go and enjoy the Christmas holiday.

According to John Mahama, he will appoint a Defence and Environment Minister next year after the Christmas holiday.

President Mahama, speaking during a meeting at the Jubilee House, stated, “They say Allah gives and Allah takes. He took two of our comrades, and we haven’t filled those positions yet. I can see people speculating that he is going to appoint a new Defence minister, a new Environment minister.

We are not in a hurry. We will do those appointments next year. After the holiday, the Christmas holiday, we will fill those positions,” he said.

“So those speculating about somebody going to be appointed tomorrow and all that, just take your time, go and enjoy Christmas and after Christmas we will fill those ones,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Ishmael Norman, a Security analyst, has told President John Mahama to appoint Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Ghana’s Defence Minister.

According to him, Ghana needs a shift in defence leadership, urging the President to appoint a woman, arguing that it is time for the tradition of men occupying the defence ministry to change.

Dr Ishmael Norman exclusively mentioned Dr Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings as a strong candidate for the role, pointing to her work on Parliament’s Defence and Interior subcommittee.

He also recounted her involvement with the Intelligence subcommittee and her participation in programmes at the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College as evidence of her preparedness.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Dr Norman stated, “It will be for reputational benefit, and this thing will be so high up before all women, all girls, that it will be amazing the benefits of that appointment. We are tired of men; appoint a woman, President. Please, please, appoint a woman”.

“She has quite a lot of qualifications. She has proven her worth as a medical doctor, parliamentarian, and disciplined professional. There is not an iota of any bad thing said about her. She has been groomed for that role, and it is high time she is elevated to that position.”

“Everything destined for us shall come to pass” – Hebron Camp pastor speaks after losing sons in aircraft crash

0

Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor, the Founder and Leader of Hebron Prayer Camp, who lost his two sons in the Tema Community 1 aircraft crash, has broken his silence.

In related news, more information is surfacing following the Monday, March 16, 2026, microlight aircraft crash that claimed two people on board in Tema Community One.

A screenshots of social media posts of the helicopter, shared by TV3, suggest that it is about 25 years old.

The social media post shared by TV3 was made by an X account identified as Roberto Billia.

In his post, he shared a photo of the alleged microlight aircraft in 2023. He wrote, “Almost ready, after 21 years, is almost ready to get in the sky once again, yesterday had an inspection of GCAA to release the permit for the test flight”.

In another post, Roberto Billia shared a microlight aircraft out on a runway. He wrote, “After 22 years, 9G-ADV is again airborne,  what an emotion!!! Shortly more video from Go-Pro”.

Also, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, in a statement, said the aircraft with registration number 9GADV was flying to Accra from Ho.

The GCAA says investigations are underway and that further information will be provided in due course.

Microlights are typically much smaller aircraft, seating two people and mainly used for recreational purposes.

Also, Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has clarified that the microlight aircraft, which crashed in Tema on Monday, does not belong to the Ghana Armed Forces.

In a Facebook post shared late Monday afternoon, Brogya Genfi stated, “We have received reports of a fatal crash involving a privately owned microlight aircraft at Tema Community 1 this afternoon,” the Deputy Minister wrote.

“We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces.”

“We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” his post added.

Background

Reports earlier revealed a helicopter reportedly plummeted from the sky, crashing into the Oninku Drive School Park in Tema Community One.

Brako-Powers runs to SC over the renaming of Kotoka International Airport

0

Legal experts and public commentators, Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers, have filed a suit at the Supreme Court (SC)seeking declarations over the recent renaming of Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

According to Brako-Powers, the renaming of Kotoka International Airport is unlawful unless it is amended or repealed through the appropriate legal processes.

In a writ invoking the original jurisdiction of the court, the plaintiff is challenging what he describes as an unlawful attempt to rename the facility to “Accra International Airport.”

Brako-Powers, in his suit, filed against the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, maintains that the General Kotoka Trust Decree, 1969 (NLCD 339), remains valid and binding under the 1992 Constitution unless it is amended or repealed.

The plaintiff Brako-Powers is seeking a declaration that any purported renaming of the airport without such amendment or repeal is inconsistent with the provisions of the Constitution.

He further argued that any executive order issued to effect the name change, without legislative backing, is null, void, and of no legal effect.

Furthermore, the suit requires the court to cancel the reversion of Kotoka International Airport to “Accra International Airport”, asserting that it contravenes constitutional provisions.

The Attorney-General now has 14 days to file a response after being served with the plaintiff’s statement of case.

Brako-Powers lawsuit comes on the heels of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) announcing the completion of the signage at Accra International Airport following public criticism.

In a statement, GACL stated that the project was not fully completed as scheduled on Friday; however, all outstanding works have now been concluded.

“The fixing of Accra International Airport signage has now been completed, including paint works…The work was not fully completed yesterday, but it is now done this morning,” GACL said.

“These works are done at night after the last flight due to the height and impact on the car park area in order not to inconvenience the public and travelling passengers,” it added.

The company expressed appreciation to the public for its feedback, noting that citizen engagement plays a vital role in improving service delivery.

“Thanks to all for the concern. We continue to encourage constructive feedback, which helps with our service delivery,” GACL noted.

Meanwhile, the Mahama government recently changed the name of the airport from Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.

The Transport Ministry has officially announced that Kotoka International Airport has been officially renamed Accra International Airport.

The Ministry assured the public that operations, safety, and international travel would not be affected. Adding that the renaming will, however, involve updating official documents, signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and communications.

The government has also called on the public, stakeholders, and international partners to cooperate for a smooth transition and thanked all for their support.

On Monday, February 23, 2026, in a press statement, the Transport Ministry stated, “The ministry hereby informs the general public that the Government of Ghana has officially reverted the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original name, Accra International Airport.

“The facility was originally known as Accra International Airport before its redesignation. The government has considered it appropriate to restore the airport to its former and internationally recognised name”, it said.

The statement further added, “This change will not affect airport operations, safety standards, or international travel arrangements. Notably, within the records of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the airport code has remained ‘ACC.’”

“The transition will involve updating official documents, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and other communication materials”.

Mahama’s job creation efforts slowed by IMF programme – Seth Terkper

0

Former Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, has said job creation under President John Dramani Mahama has been significantly slowed by debt distress and restrictions under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

It means that you know that the economy rises and falls — it’s good and bad”.

“If you don’t have sufficient food, and you import with the reserves, it affects the currency. If it’s not something you can predict for later, it’s something you should know could happen,” he said.

Also, Seth Terkper, the has said that an economy cannot be run for 2 to 4 years without a crisis.

According to Seth Terper, Ghana must strengthen its buffers to withstand external shocks.

The former finance minister highlighted that both domestic and external crises are a natural part of economic management.

Seth Terkper disclosed, “If you don’t have sufficient food, and you import with the reserves, it affects the currency. So these are, if not something you can predict to the letter, is something you should know could happen,” he said.

“So, unless you prepare against them, events happen, and things go in circles. Commodity prices, we don’t control them. They go up, and they go down. This will appear.”

He added, “And I’ve always said, in so many interviews, that you cannot run an economy for two to three years, the longest, four, without one crisis or the other. It may be domestic, it may be external…”

“Economists have something called counter cyclical policies, it means that you know that the economy rises and falls and it settles, it’s good and band, good and bad.”

And let’s be honest, when even your own foot soldiers are shutting down NHIA offices, it raises serious questions about this narrative of widespread job creation

Where are the jobs?

PS: There’ll always be that one guy who’ll ask What did NPP do for them?’

They’re out of power for a reason, so grow up”.

“I am jobless, my father takes care of me” – Ellen Ama Daaku claims

0

Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s National Communication Team, has claimed that she is jobless as her father takes care of her.

According to Ellen Ama Daaku, she is unable to pay her rent due to President Mahama’s recent decision regarding the cocoa sector.

Ellen Ama Daaku disclosed that as a daughter of a cocoa farmer, her dad takes care of her, and now she is unable to due to Mahama’s decision to cut cocoa prices.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Ellen Ama Daaku explained, “For me, the cocoa issues I cannot stop talking about it because I am unemployed, and it is my father who takes care of me. Anytime my father sells his cocoa, he gives me money. Some years, he gives me GH¢10,000 or GH¢20,000.

“This year, if all things had gone well in the cocoa sector, I would have received about GH¢30,000 from my father to pay my rent. But because of President Mahama’s decision, my father was unable to give me money, and I haven’t been able to pay my rent.”

The NPP woman added, “They have reduced GH¢1,100 from the cocoa price, which is affecting the farmers. The same cocoa is what takes care of me and my children, so President Mahama should give the farmers their money so we can also get our share.”

Also, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, has told cocoa farmers that if the John Mahama government have the sense to borrow to buy an aircraft, but cannot do the same for them, they should let the aircraft go and vote for them.

According to Annoh-Dompreh, the Mahama government has the sense to borrow to buy an aircraft, but cannot have the sense to borrow to help cocoa farmers with the cocoa price cut.

Speaking to Cocoa farmers, Frank Annoh-Dompreh stated, “If you can have the sense to borrow to buy an aircraft but cannot have the sense to borrow to help cocoa farmers, then let the aircraft go and vote for you when there is an election”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said his government’s decision to reduce the cocoa producer price is difficult but necessary.

Mahama explained that the reduction was aimed at addressing acute liquidity challenges within the cocoa sector.

According to John Mahama, maintaining the previous price would have compelled the government to borrow billions, which he says could have taken the country back into economic difficulties.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament, President Mahama explained, “Mr Speaker, a nation that does not learn from past mistakes cannot get out of the cycle of problems that impose hardship on its citizens.

We have just begun to emerge from the most devastating economic crisis in our nation’s recent history. This crisis was triggered by general financial indiscipline, huge deficits and massive debt occasioned by persistent unbudgeted expenditure to meet the ends of convenient politicking.

In the last few weeks, we have had to take the painful but necessary decision to revise the producer price of Cocoa to achieve competitive pricing and resolve acute liquidity challenges in the sector. Failure to do so would have meant pumping in billions of borrowed funds”.

He added, “This unplanned expenditure would have taken us right back to the very devastating economic problems we have only recently begun to escape.

So, while fully understanding the concerns and protests of our farmers, I can firmly assure them that the reforms announced by the government will see a total transformation of the sector and guarantee them a fair price that enables them to meet the cost of producing the commodity and make decent margins.

The difference between economic hardships and avoiding the same is the exercise of sound economic judgement, and I am determined to take decisions that ensure our collective wellbeing and avoid suffering for all our citizens.”

Background

Agradaa was released from Nsawam prison on March 3, 2026, following a reduced sentence.

The Amasaman High Court described Agradaa’s original punishment as harsh and excessive under the circumstances of the case.

The Amasaman High Court, in its decision, affirmed her conviction but exercised its discretion to vary the sentence, reducing the 15 years of hard labour earlier imposed by the trial court.

Agradaa’s revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, which means she will serve a total of 12 months in prison.

The court decision will now see Agradaa being freed from prison by July 2026.

The Amasaman High Court added that although the offences for which Agradaa was convicted warranted punishment, the severity of the initial sentence was disproportionate under the circumstances, justifying a downward adjustment.

Seth Terkper, the Former Finance Minister, has said that an economy cannot be run for 2 to 4 years without a crisis.

According to Seth Terper, Ghana must strengthen its buffers to withstand external shocks.

The former finance minister highlighted that both domestic and external crises are a natural part of economic management.

Speaking on Joy News, Seth Terkper disclosed, “If you don’t have sufficient food, and you import with the reserves, it affects the currency.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana’s economy is now resilient enough to withstand external shocks.

According to John Mahama, Ghana’s economy is resilient due to a series of measures implemented by his administration.

President Mahama stressed that Israel, Iran and the United States accentuate the need for a strong and stable domestic economy.

He further highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war exposed the vulnerabilities in economies under the former Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking during his ‘Resetting Ghana Tour’ in the Bono Region on Wednesday, March 18, “In this world, unexpected events can occur at any time. If your monetary system is not well cushioned, such shocks can destabilise the economy,” he said.

“I have hope that the measures we have put in place in our first year have strengthened the economy. Even with ongoing global tensions, our economy will be able to withstand the impact,” he added.

However, Senyo Hosi, a Convener of the OneGhana Movement and Trustee of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, has told President John Dramani Mahama that Ghana’s economy is still vulnerable to shocks.

According to Senyo Hosi, a resilient economy requires diversification, noting that Ghana’s economy. still depends heavily on gold.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, March 21, Senyo Hosi stated, “The coordination between the government, the central bank, and key economic actors has been impressive”.

“A resilient economy requires diversification, strong private-sector growth, and the capacity to withstand external shocks. Unfortunately, our economy still depends heavily on gold, which accounts for about 68% of our exports,” he explained.

He added, “The progress we have seen is commendable, but it is mostly stability. The next step must be building the right pillars for transformation”.

“Now that the fires have been quenched, it is time to start building the house. We need a clear pathway for investment, diversification, and private-sector-led production”.

Big Chief tables bid to take over BoG GoldBod financing

0

Bright Simons, IMANI Africa’s Honorary Vice President, has revealed that a Big Chief has a bid to take over the Bank of Ghana (BoG) GoldBod financing.

According to Bright Simons, the Big Chief from the North, and also a former multinational bank CEO, just put a gold deal on Ghana’s table.

In a post shared on X, Bright Simons further detailed, “1. A Big Chief from the North, who is also a former multinational bank CEO, just put a gold deal on Ghana’s table.

2. He says he has the country’s banks in his corner. It’s clever. It’s well-timed. And it has some serious gaps, each of which deserves its own thesis.

3. Ghana’s GoldBod burned through GH¢88.52 billion (~$7.2bn) in just nine months of 2025, buying gold from small-scale miners. It sold back GH¢86.51 billion worth.

4. The Bank of Ghana was left holding $214 million in losses. The IMF stared disapprovingly. Something had to give.

5. Enter LVSafrica. Whilst some of us were shouting ourselves hoarse in TV studios, their analysts were crunching numbers to sniff out a deal. The firm’s chairman – a mighty traditional chief, chair of state enterprises, and decades-long CEO of a major multinational bank – has now made his calls and regally put down his cards.

6. In his model, private banks would fund the gold purchases. The central bank steps back. Problem solved, right?

7. Not quite. Read the fine print. First, private banks already get some of the gold dealing gigs from the BoG already, just not a lot. So, any model would have to do more than just get private banks into the room.

8. Second, and more critically, the BoG is still written into the deal structure as transaction obligor, escrow bank, and foreign-exchange allocator. The proposal doesn’t move it out of the firing line. It just rearranges the targeting rules.

9. The headline return (“profit margin”) is 17.87% annualised. That number is doing a lot of persuasive work.

10. But it rests on a 25-pesewa FX spread that banks would pocket on every dollar cycled. Tighten that spread to 15 pesewas, and the return collapses to 2.3%. At 10 pesewas, it turns negative.

11. Strangely, the promoters’ analysts left out the sensitivity analysis in the prospectus.

12. Then there is the concentration problem the prospectus doesn’t mention at all. Between July and October 2025, 98.2% of GoldBod’s export value flowed to India and the UAE. The top four buyers took 78.4% of total value. One sanctions event, one payment dispute, one Gulf corridor disruption, and this elegant short-tenor revolving structure seizes up bigly.

13. The collateral story is also thin. No SPV, no bankruptcy remoteness, & no perfected security over receivables.

14. The guarantees too feel contradictory. As structured, most serious credit committees would wring it through many cycles.

15. None of this means the idea is weak. A commercial, revolving, self-liquidating commodity trade-finance structure is definitely going to play a role in GoldBod’s cedi-timing problem. Rumours are that GoldBod itself is pitching its own version.

16. The LVSafrica promoters have superb instincts and impeccable timing.

17. But there is a wide gap between a smart concept and a bankable deal. Especially in this kind of fraught political economy context.

18. The sophisticated banks will stretch this hard before they sign anything.

19. But still, watch that space.

20. Big cash is in the air.

Full analysis in subsequent comment”.

In related news, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has insisted that the Gold Board (GoldBod) made US$214 million losses in its operations.

According to the IMF Director of Communications, Julie Kozack, the GoldBod’s $214 million loss stemmed from trading activities, fees, and exchange rate movements.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, 15th January 2026, IMF Director of Communications Julie Kozack stated, “The loss stemmed from trading activities, fees, and exchange rate movements. While it is not formally recorded on the government’s fiscal balance sheet, it ultimately represents a cost to the state”.

“These steps are critical to ensure the Bank of Ghana remains financially sound,” she concluded,

Julie Kozack stressed the need for clearer reporting and enhanced oversight of the gold purchase programme.

However, Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has said any loss under the Gold-for-Reserves (G4R) is not attributable to an eight-month-old GoldBod.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, January 3, Mr Gyamfi explained, “That program, any loss under it is not attributable to an eight-month-old GoldBod, neither is it attributable to mismanagement or incompetence by the BoG. Dr Asiamah [BoG boss] is a hero; he and that wonderful team at BoG have not, through mismanagement or incompetence cause any loss”.

“So we are not saying we have not made a loss, but somebody has made a loss through mismanagement. No, that is the policy design, and it is so sad that those under whom the policy was introduced are now feeling ignorant about the policy objects and the policy design,” he added.

Sammy Gyamfi further clarified that the Gold-for-Reserves (G4R) is being run by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

“My gov’t is in power, yet they have not given me any work” – Mzbel cries

Ghanaian musician, Belinda Ekuah Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has cried out about being dumped by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) after campaigning for the party to regain power.

Mzbel expressed her frustration and disappointment, stating that her government is in power but has not been given any work.

According to Mzbel, she does not even want an appointment as she does not have time, as a musician, she only wants to be on numerous government-hosted entertainment events.

Speaking in a video shared on TikTok on March 22, 2026, Mzbel cried out, saying, “I am crying because my government is in power, yet they have not given me any work. I’m not even referring to appointments or office roles because I don’t have time for that. I am a musician, and this government has hosted numerous entertainment events.

“How many of them have you seen me perform at? All I expected was that after actively campaigning, they would give me shows to perform,” she said.

“No party has bought me a house or a car. The house I live in was built by me, and I bought my own car. I don’t understand why people think I cannot afford these things.

“I am a musician, and although I am not materialistic, everything I need in life, I have worked for. The party hasn’t even given me gigs where I can render my services and get paid, so how would they buy me a house or a car?” she added.

In related news,  Mzbel had earlier cried out, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership of using and dumping her after winning the 2024 elections.

Mzbel revealed that NDC party officials were easily accessible during the campaign season, but are now refusing to answer her calls or return messages and those who do rudely speak to her.

According to Mzbel, she made some promises to degree holders who accompanied her to the campaign, and some now believe she has been sorted out, abandoning them to their fate, adding that she has not received anything from all the campaigning she did for the NDC.

Mzbel revealed that degree holders who followed her during the campaign are pressuring her to demand jobs.

The musician revealed she runs a restaurant business and was seeking government catering services, but has been snubbed.

Speaking on Accra-based Aluta FM, Mzbel explained, “It is not that easy, as I am sitting here, I have not been told anything, I have lobbied for some contracts because I have a restaurant, and the government sometimes organises food to be supplied, I have chased that contract, but I have been snubbed.

I know everybody at the party, I know all the big men at the party, and I have their numbers during the campaign time. They communicated with me, but after the election, when you send a message, they talk to you anyhow.

So, anyone who followed me to the campaign and thinks I have gone for something just for myself, I beg you, they have not been given anything, even me, when I am fighting for them, they are rudely speaking to me.

I am asking for a job, I am not even asking them to build a story building or build a car for me. The degree holders who followed me to campaign for the NDC they want jobs.

Mzbel has been vocal about his affiliation with the NDC since 2012 and led the Celebrities for Mahama group during the 2024 campaign.

It hurts to hear people say I’ve been “sorted” and forgotten them. The truth is… I stood strong, I gave my all, I mobilized people out of pure belief, not because I was promised anything. And till now, nothing has been done for me or my team I have not turned my back on anyone. Im simply minding my own business

0

A viral video has surfaced of President John Dramani Mahama responding to a citizen urging him to contest again for the presidency after completing his tenure.

According to the Ghanaian citizen, Mahama must contest against him; otherwise, he will take him to court.

Speaking in the midst of a large crowd which had gathered at the location, an elderly man who spotted President Mahama in a moving car was heard loudly shouting, “Mr President, go again! Go and contest again, because if you don’t, I will take you to court!”

In response, President Mahama, seated in his car, smiled broadly, stated, “I have heard you,” while he waved at the public.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “Looks like the country is so quiet the elephants are not bringing anything anaa they are not getting anything to talk about”.

Another X user added, “People just appreciate what he is doing.

Yaanom think they’re making some inroads with the cocoa politics. We shall see!”.

“Some people won’t be happy seeing this”, a netizen added.

In addition, President John Dramani Mahama has made a bold declaration that he will not be a candidate in Ghana’s next elections.

According to John Mahama, stepping aside in 2028 would give him the moral authority to hold the line when it comes to Ghana’s fiscal discipline in an election year.

Mahama, during a bilateral discussion with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, criticised the practice of incumbent governments by-passing fiscal safeguards to curry favour with voters, a cycle he will end.

“I will not be a candidate in the next elections, and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline,” he said.

Meanwhile, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the member of Parliament for Akim Oda, has said persons pushing President John Dramani Mahama for a third-term bid are greedy politicians.

According to Alexander Akwasi Acquah, President Mahama must ignore the third-term calls and step away when his term ends.

The Akim Oda MP claimed there is an attempt to use the NDC super-majority in Parliament to push the third-term agenda.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio, the MP stated, “The Ghanaians I know believe that anyone advising President Mahama to pursue a third term is a greedy politician”.

“We saw how terrible his first term was. Ghanaians have reconsidered and brought you back to complete your two terms. However, you are already pushing for a third term before your second is even over.”

Also, Professor H Kwasi Prempeh, the Chair of the Constitution Review Committee, has said the committee could not find a place for a third term for a president.

According to the Chair of the Committee, nobody really seemed to like the idea of a third term.

Presenting the committee reports to President John Mahama on Monday, December 22, Professor H Kwasi Prempeh stated, “We couldn’t find a place for a third term; nobody really seemed to like it, there was really no demand for it”.

He further noted that even the President, John Dramani Mahama, himself was not in favour of it.

According to the chair, the committee mainly focus on improving governance efficiency.

‘I sold my two taxis to fund NDC, today I have been sidelined’ – Die-hard NDC supporter laments

0

Exdoe, a Ghanaian taxi driver and die-hard NDC supporter based in Madina Zongo Junction, has told his party he will speak against them after he has been completely sidelined following the NDC’s return to power.

According to the Die-hard NDC supporter, he sold his two taxis to raise money and campaign for the NDC, but after they gained power, he has been completely ignored by the party.

Speaking in a self-recorded video, the die-hard NDC supporter stated, “From today onwards, I will speak against the NDC because you people are very stingy. After all the work I did, it’s you and your families who are enjoying the national cake. I sold two taxi cabs to raise funds for the party’s campaign”.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has told disgruntled party members that President John Mahama cannot appoint everyone.

According to Asiedu Nketia, appointments under the current Mahama administration are limited; however urged party supporters who are yet to receive appointments to remain calm and exercise patience.

The NDC National Chairman further stressed that it is practically impossible to appoint all deserving members at the same time, citing the constitutional restrictions placed on the president’s appointment.

Asiedu Nketia further urged party members to avoid resorting to anger or public criticism and to use internal channels to seek redress for their grievances.

Speaking during his Thank You Tour at Winneba in the Effutu Constituency on Thursday, February 12, Asiedu Nketia, stated, “I am aware that some of you are unhappy because you did not get to be appointed to any position upon our return to power. This is understandable. It is the reason why I am embarking on this ‘Thank You Tour’, to explain issues for your understanding.

“The challenge is that, given the number of appointments that the constitution permits President Mahama to make, not all members of the NDC can be taken care of. So be patient. There is no need to be angry with the party.”

“You have elected a good president who is doing a good job. Everyone acknowledges this fact, including some members of the opposition. So, I urge you to be patient with the government. If you have any concerns that have not been addressed yet. There is time for everything. Your concerns will be addressed. All you need to do is to channel them through the right quarters, and it will be resolved,” he assured.

In addition, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged Ghanaians and party members to exercise patience as President John Mahama works to provide opportunities for everyone.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the anger being displayed by Ghanaian youths over the low intake of applicants in Ghana’s security services will not solve anything.

The NDC Chairman detailed that the first priority is to strengthen the economy, which will create more employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

Speaking to party supporters in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Asiedu Nketiah stated, “The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working diligently on this.

“We are already beginning to see the benefits. We must exercise a little more patience to allow these efforts to create opportunities for everyone,” he said.

He added, “Rising impatience will not help. Let us learn to be patient. Things will improve, and this government is committed to opening up opportunities for all.”

A 3-year-old boy has died following a bee attack, and 10 others sustained injuries.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Wawase, a suburb of Agona Swedru, casting a pall of grief over the community.

Christopher Amponsah has been identified as the victim, with a swarm of bees descending on residents around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Reports from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), 10 people were affected by the swarm.

Report by classfmonline stated, “While 9 victims sustained varying degrees of injuries from multiple stings, they are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and NADMO were deployed in a coordinated emergency response to contain the situation. Authorities confirmed by Saturday morning that the swarm had been neutralised and the area secured.

The incident marks the second fatal bee attack recorded in the Central Region within a week. Earlier, a female student at a private senior high school in Winneba also lost her life under similar circumstances.

The Municipal Director of NADMO, Charles K. Agbavitor, led a delegation to the affected community on Saturday to assess possible environmental triggers and extend condolences to the bereaved family.

Authorities have since issued a public safety advisory, urging residents to avoid disturbing beehives and to promptly report unusual bee activity to emergency services.

Experts attribute such incidents to environmental factors, including changing weather conditions and habitat disruption, which can force bee colonies to migrate into residential areas in search of new nesting sites”.

In a six-page memoir he left behind, Godfred explained that he had been struggling with serious mental health issues long before arriving at university.

None of his friends was aware of his struggles, and his family offered no meaningful support. As a result, his condition steadily worsened until it finally overwhelmed him, leading to this tragic decision.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic news stated, “This is truly heartbreaking

Godfred Akomaning, Immortal Legend, was brilliant, accomplished, and still silently struggling. It’s a painful reminder that success doesn’t cancel internal battles. Mental health struggles often go unseen. Checking in on people, creating safe spaces, and taking cries for help seriously can make a difference. No one should feel they have to carry that weight alone”.

“Hmmnn, the sad part is,when you are a man, people and society hardly listens to your plight let alone thinking of trying to help but if it’s a woman, you will get dozens of people ever ready to console, help and make her happy again, but for a man, the least said, the better!”, a netizen added.

Being able to listen to and understand a man’s pain is a rare superpower. That’s true empathy. We all like to pretend we have it, but we don’t…”, one more Ghanaian added.

“Men will always act like they are fine when in actual fact, they are not cos that’s how society has trained them to be, forgetting that men are human too and have weaknesses, and http://shortcomings.No one is ready to listen just because you’re a man,” a netizen added.

One more X user added, “A close friend of his just told me 😢😢😢😢No one, not even those of us close to him, noticed he was going through such tough moments. Immortal was always full of life; you could hardly ever see him sad. There was always a smile on his face”.

Additionally, a netizen added, “Hmm, while it’s sad, I still believe no one, I mean no one, should be this selfish to cause such pain to friends and family. Can’t say he should rest in peace.

To anyone who’s going through something in this life, you can’t do life alone. Talk to someone before it consumes you”.

“We are doing expansion works” – Korle Bu CEO speaks amid viral video showing patients on the floor

0

Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, the CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), has told the Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh that the facility is undergoing renovation works.

According to the Korle Bu CEO, there are ongoing renovation works as one of the measures to contain the situation.

Speaking in a video shared by The1957News on X on March 21, 2026, Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam told the Health Minister, while showing him updates on the renovation after he visited the facility to ascertain the facts of the matter by himself.

The Korle Bu CEO stated, “This is the expansion that we are doing, that was the original space. At the back, there is another expansion”.

The Health Minister visit follow, an alarming viral footage has surfaced on social media of some patients at the  Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) seen lying on the bare floors of Ghana’s biggest hospital.

In the viral footage, several patients, visibly frail and in need of urgent care, were captured sleeping on the hard hospital floors.

The alarming video exposed the extent of the lack of beds at wards at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) as the ongoing “no bed syndrome” crisis worsens.

The CDR Africa in a post sharing the video stated, “Patients at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital are being forced to lie and sit on the floor in the emergency ward as the ongoing ‘no bed syndrome’ crisis worsens.

Following the government’s directive that no patient should be turned away due to a lack of beds, nurses continue to admit everyone who needs urgent care.

However, the hospital is struggling with a severe shortage of beds and space, leaving many patients without a proper place to rest while waiting for treatment”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “This is deeply disturbing. How have we, as citizens, come to accept this?

This is what happens when directives are issued without any serious strategic thinking behind them. Policies made on paper can create chaos in real clinical settings.

Just imagine being the clinician on duty, forced to work under these conditions. Now imagine being the patient, sick, vulnerable, and left on the floor because there is no space and no workable plan.

This is completely unacceptable”.

“Meanwhile, the current government has abandoned all ongoing hospital projects and focused on spending the funds on presidential jets, sanitary pads and 24-hour market”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “To solve this is very simple.  Korle-Bu should have received only cases that have referrals or were brought in by paramedics.  But the main solution is to equip and open the poly clinic change or to annex to receive these cases before they can be sent to the main Korle-Bu”.

“I thought Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had acquired 200 EXTRA hospital beds a few years back. Is it that those beds never made it to the hospital, or even with those 200 extra beds, they are still not enough for all the current emergency care patients🤔?”, a netizen added.

One more Ghanaian added, “This ruined the image of Ghana. People should be careful of what they post on social media, not everything is to be posted on social media platforms”.

“This is so bad, how much do beds cost that the govt and the hospitals can’t provide? Is it an issue of just beds or do they not have wards to admit more beds?”, a netizen added.

Meanwhile, the development follows, President John Mahama, who at the State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2026, warned all health facilities against turning away patients who report to their facility for emergency treatment.

“The guy planned everything” – Mother of slain KNUST student, Joana Yabani, speaks

0

The mother of the final slain Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Joana Yabani, has spoken publicly about her daughter’s murder.

According to Joana Yabani’s mother, Rejoice Amakie Yabani, the suspect planned everything, and she does not support any claims about the accused’s mental issues.

Speaking on the Women’s Voice show on GTV, shared on social media, Rejoice Amakie Yabani stated, “The guy was planning to send her something so that when she consumed it, she would die. He was planning everything possible to kill this girl. So we advised her to be careful about her friends, what she eats, and the places she goes.

“She told us that she could manage the issues concerning food and friends, but since they were writing exams, she would still need to go out to study. We then advised her not to walk alone,” she said.

“It was a planned act, so I don’t support any claims about mental issues. The guy planned everything, including how to move the body. This was someone who was determined to do what he did. He had earlier stolen her phone while she was asleep; perhaps he sent threats and later deleted them.

Rejoice Amakie Yabani further added, “Sometimes we don’t even know when the case is going to court. For almost a year, we’ve been left in the dark. About a week before her first anniversary, when I could no longer bear it, a police officer took us to the Attorney-General’s office in Kumasi. There, we were told they had been looking for the parents all this time.

“But this does not make sense. If anyone tries to cover this up, they have not seen a determined mother before. I will not let this go until I get justice. After the murder, he (Daniel Tuffour) even went to write an exam. We don’t even know which cell he is being held in,” she added.

It will be recalled that the case involves 21-year-old final-year student Joana Yabani and Daniel Tuffuor, who stands accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Police investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship.

The accused Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Joana’s lifeless body was discovered on campus earlier that morning.

The university’s security service, upon being alerted to the incident, promptly reported it to the police. Also, CCTV footage reportedly captured a man, alleged to be Tuffuor, strangling Joana to death following an altercation.

Meanwhile, the sisters of Joana Yabani have appealed for an expedited legal process.

Joana Yabani’s family are calling on the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the judges handling the case, and all relevant authorities to expedite the legal process and deliver justice without further delay.

Their plea comes as today, 5th November 2025, marks what would have been Joana’s 22nd birthday.

In a viral video shared on X on November 5, 2025, the sisters of the late Joana called on the court for the legal proceedings to be accelerated.

One sister stated, “We have attended several court hearings after the initial appearance, but constant adjournments have characterised this process. This raises serious concerns. What exactly is happening with our judicial system regarding this case?

“Is there not sufficient evidence to secure a conviction for the accused, Daniel Tuffuor, after nearly a year? A swift resolution is imperative, as justice delayed is justice denied,” she said.

According to the family, the late Joana Yabani would have celebrated her 22nd birthday on November 5, 2025.

“Today, November 5, 2025, is supposed to be Joana’s 22nd birthday. Instead of celebrating the future that was stolen, we are mourning our innocent sister.

“We are sending this video as an appeal to the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the judges handling my sister’s case and all concerned authorities. Cases of this nature, the shedding of innocent blood and the cutting short of a bright future, must be treated with the utmost urgency.”

Ghana’s economy is still vulnerable to shocks – Mahama told

0

Senyo Hosi, a Convener of the OneGhana Movement and Trustee of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, has told President John Dramani Mahama that Ghana’s economy is still vulnerable to shocks.

Also, Prof Fred Dzanku, an economist, has said that recent data indicate an improvement in some economic buffers, but warned against early declaration of  Ghana’s economy as fully resilient.

Prof. Dzanku stated, “Well, I think that it’s always important to, as I say, go back to the fundamentals”.

“On these three, the president seems, I mean, suggests, and as the data shows, that at least for reserves, we are at a better position than we were a couple of years ago,” he acknowledged.

“Fiscal space is not looking good, right? Because you have a situation where your tax to GDP is still low, around 15 per cent, and it’s been so for some time. What it means is that your economy is not generating enough revenue,” he explained.

He emphasised, “Resilience is not just a short-term phenomenon. It’s something that you build into the system over a long period of time. So, we are not yet resilient, particularly depending on how long the crisis will last.”

“I would say that stability is necessary, but it’s not resilient. It’s a step towards resilience, and at this point, I would say that our buffers, some of it are looking good, others are not looking great, and therefore we still should be worried.”

Their comments come on the heels of President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration that Ghana’s economy is now resilient enough to withstand external shocks.

Ghanaian Businessman sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment

0

Ghanaian businessman Alhaji Fareed Amin Yakubu has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in absentia for fraud.

The 38-year-old businessman was fined GH¢12,000 or, in default, to serve two years for issuing false cheques.

Reports by the GNA detailed, “The court, presided over by Justice Bright Samuel Acquah, delivered the ruling on Wednesday.

Yakubu pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding by false pretences and two counts of issuing false cheques but absconded after being granted bail.

A bench warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest. After two years without success in tracing him, the prosecution applied for a trial in absentia.

The court granted the request, in line with Article 19(3)(a) of the 1992 Constitution, which allows such proceedings under specific circumstances.

At the end of the trial, the court found Yakubu guilty and sentenced him accordingly.

The prosecution said Yakubu collected GH¢3 million from Madam Darling Tuffour in April 2021 under the pretext of investing in an oil business, promising to repay the amount.

On May 18, 2021, he issued a cheque for GH¢2,100,000 drawn on Stanbic Bank, which was dishonoured due to insufficient funds.

He later issued another cheque for GH¢1,050,000 on September 24, 2021, drawn on First Atlantic Bank, which was also dishonoured.

The complainant, a businesswoman residing at East Legon, reported the matter to the Police after efforts to locate Yakubu failed, as he had vacated his office and his whereabouts were unknown.

Prosecution said Yakubu later reported to the Police after his details were published in the media”.

In related news, Dickson Alorwornu, also known as “Dixon AI,” a 36-year-old Ghanaian student based in the United States, has been jailed after he was found guilty of engaging in a tuition refund scam.

The information gathered from the US Attorney’s Office, District of Connecticut, Dixon AI has been sentenced to 48 months of imprisonment and two years of supervised release for operating a tuition refund scheme using stolen identities.

Dickson Alorwornu is said to be a resident of Greenwich and created student accounts with stolen identities.

The Attorney’s Office detailed that stolen credit information was used to fill these accounts with money and asks for refunds under the guise that he was no longer interested in the courses.

In a statement issued by the US Attorney’s Office, District of Connecticut, read, “Ghanaian National Sentenced to 4 Years in Federal Prison for Defrauding UConn

David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that DICKSON ALORWORNU, also known as “Dixon Al,” 36, a citizen of Ghana residing in Greenwich, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford to 48 months of imprisonment and two years of supervised release for operating a tuition refund scheme using stolen identities.

According to the evidence presented during Alorwornu’s trial, in December 2017, Alorwornu used other individuals’ identities to submit two non-degree student applications to the University of Connecticut (“UConn”). He then used credit card information that had been stolen from three victims to fund the two student accounts with a total of more than $62,000 in fraudulently obtained funds. In early 2018, Alorwornu withdrew from the courses and requested that UConn refund the money he had deposited. UConn subsequently transferred approximately $46,000 to bank accounts Alorwornu controlled

The investigation revealed that email accounts that Alorwornu used to defraud UConn were also used to defraud other universities of more than $500,000.

Alorwornu was arrested on February 1, 2023. On October 29, 2024, a jury found him guilty of two counts of wire fraud.

Alorwornu’s criminal history includes a conviction in New York in 2017 for an offence involving his use of stolen credit cards and other individuals’ personal identifying information.

Alorwornu, who is released on a $50,000 bond, is required to report to prison on April 20.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the UConn Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Edward Chang and Elena Coronado”.

Accra International Airport signage now completed – GACL says after fixing ‘shoddy’ signage

0

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the completion of the signage at Accra International Airport following public criticism.

The GACL statement comes on the heels of public backlash on social media after pictures and videos of the new airport signage went viral.

Following videos of the new signage being officially unveiled on March 20, 2026, some media users have expressed disappointment in the government and GACL over the new signage.

Netizens noted that the failure to properly remove or repaint old markings before placing the new signage is disrespectful and embarrassing, as the old markings showing Kotoka can still be seen.

Some X user reacting to the video wrote, “Wey cheap work this? People put in place to think and do things right are not doing so”.

It will be recalled that the Mahama government recently changed the name of the airport from Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.

Meanwhile, Kwesi Pratt, the Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has said the change of name of Ghana’s main airport to Accra International Airport is good.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on February 24, 2026, Kwesi Pratt stated, “Now, wherever you go and say Istanbul, everyone knows it, and it helps promote the country. So now, Accra is good.

Having Accra International Airport is good. First, it was Kotoka and people were struggling to locate the place, but now Accra, which everyone is aware of, makes it easier.”

“You deserve to be sacked” – Muntaka told

0

A staunch National Democratic Congress (NDC) party supporter, Appiah Stadium, has revealed he called the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, telling him he deserved to be sacked by the President.

According to Appiah Stadium, his call stems from the ongoing agitations among members of the party over the state security services recruitment exercise.

Speaking in an interview on RTV’s Atesem on Friday, March 20, 2026, Appiah Stadium stated, “I told Muntaka he deserves to be sacked by the President because he is not helping us. He had nothing to say; he just sent him in a meeting and would call back. Up to now, he has still not called.

Appiah Stadium comments come on the heels of growing controversies surrounding the ongoing security services recruitment exercise across the country.

After which, there have been several concerns about the processes for the recruitment, particularly the use of an AI aptitude test system to examine applicants.

Meanwhile, following the brouhaha President John Dramani Mahama has directed an increase in security services recruitment from 5000 to 10,000 yearly.

A statement from the presidency dated Monday, March 16, revealed the directive comes following a high-level meeting with heads of the various agencies.

President Mahama’s directives will see the number of men and women recruited to the various security agencies increased from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) over four years.

In a Presidency communication shared by signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, read, “President John Dramani Mahama has held a high-level meeting with the Heads of Security Agencies, Minister for the Interior and Acting Minister for Defence on the ongoing security services recruitment process.

Following a briefing on the process, the President has directed that the number of men and women to be recruited to the various security agencies should be increased from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) over a four-year period.

The President has also directed the Heads of the Security Agencies to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, National Security Coordinator, Inspector General of Police, Director General Prisons, Director General Fire Service, Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service and the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission.

Also, the Adentan Member of Parliament (MP), Ramadan Adamu Mohammed, has lamented about the current agitations by NDC grassroots members over their mass disqualification from the security services recruitment.

According to Ramadan Adamu Mohammed, during the NPP’s tenure, all MPs had to do was just submit a list of interested persons who wanted to join the security services, and they would jump the process to the medical before you know it, and they are already in uniforms.

Ramadan Adamu Mohammed further lamented that under the NDC, unfortunately, the party likes to follow the rules too much.

Speaking to some members of NDC in the Adenta constituency, Ramadan Adamu Mohammed stated, “This recruitment, during the NPP’s tenure, all they would ask was to bring the interested person’s name for recruitment.

The person will not have to go through the process; the person will jump straight to the medicals. By the time you know the person, they are already wearing the uniform. Unfortunately, it’s like we, the NDC, are following the rules too much. Today, when I got here, a lot of people have complained to me. Our people who have worked for the party must see the reward on earth before they go to heaven”.

President Mahama highlighted that even supporting a small number of 200 fans would place a significant financial burden on the state.

He detailed that flying and accommodating just 200 supporters could cost close to $2 million.

Speaking at the Ghana World Cup fundraising campaign on Friday, March 20, 2026, Mahama stated, “In consonance with the Dzamefe Report, the government has no plans to allocate public funds to fly supporters to the World Cup”.

“We all want to see our fans in the stands, but we must be responsible in how we use public resources,” he added.

Mahama stressed the need to channel funds into critical areas such as job creation.

Also, Kofi Adams has announced that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed over $13 million for the Black Stars’ campaign at the 2026 World Cup.

According to Kofi Adams, the over $13 million for the Black Stars’ remains at the proposal stage, with discussions yet to be held with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for scrutiny before final approval.

Watch alarming footage of patients lying on the floors Korle Bu wards

0

An alarming viral footage has surfaced on social media of some patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) seen lying on the bare floors of Ghana’s biggest hospital.

He further revealed plans to increase capacity at the Ridge Hospital by implementing phase two of the project.

“In the meantime, the government will expand capacity by implementing the Ridge Hospital phase two project to increase the number of beds at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. We will also continue and complete the police hospital, and also continue and complete the La General Hospital”, Mahama added.

“Wo nyi m’ayɛ a, mɛnsɛi me din!!” – Ursula fires back at Mahama and Sam George

0

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the former Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, has issued a rebuttal, firing shots at claims made by President John Dramani Mahama and the current Minister for Communications, Sam George.

According to Ursula, the SIM card registration under her leadership represented real progress for Ghanaians and should not be undermined by misleading claims or political narratives.

She also criticised the government for failing to acknowledge the practical gains the registration during her time brought to the system, adding that if the government cannot praise her, they should not tarnish her reputation.

In a statement titled “Rebuttal Statement on SIM Registration Falsehoods,” Ursula Owusu-Ekuful stated, “I have deliberately refrained from commenting on events in the communications sector since I left office a little over a year ago, but am compelled to set the record straight when the President of the Republic himself repeats falsehoods. I have heard the comments made by President Mahama in the Bono Region on the SIM registration exercise, and I must say that a number of the comments he made are far from the truth.

Let us be clear from the beginning: the 2022–2023 SIM registration exercise did not come out of nowhere. It became necessary because the old SIM registration exercise done in 2010–2011 was not effective. That earlier process did not have any proper validation system due to the lack of any mass identification document.

That is why we introduced a more structured and legally compliant process tied to the Ghana Card. The idea was simple: if SIM cards are being used in Ghana, then they must be linked to a proper national identity system as required by law. That was the whole point.

The process itself had two stages. First, people entered their Ghana Card details through a shortcode. Those details were checked with the National Identification Authority to confirm that the information was correct. After that, the individual moved to the second stage, which involved data capture and biometric registration, including facial and fingerprint capture”.

The former Minister for Communications and Digitalisation highlighted that 80% of the facial biometrics captured matched with the data in the NIA database, adding that the process was not useless or an empty exercise, as people are now desperately trying to suggest.

She disclosed that all that is left now is less than 20% to be biometrically verified in what can only be termed stage 3 of what we started.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful challenged the narrative, saying, “Now, a lot has been said to create the impression that the problems with the exercise were because of personal issues or bad blood between institutions. That is simply not true. I have known Professor Attafuah for many years, and at no point in time did we ever stop speaking to each other, either personally or professionally. We may have had disagreements, but I am too professional to allow differences of opinion to affect my work in any way.

The only issue was that the National Identification Authority did not allow the SIM registration system to connect to their database for biometric verification at that second stage. That was the challenge. This, however, did not prevent us from compiling a comprehensive database of all activated SIMS in Ghana, and I thank all well-meaning Ghanaians once again for their cooperation, which ensured that the mass registration exercise was successfully completed with the registration of almost 30 million SIM cards. That SIM Registry database exists and is hosted securely by the national Electronic Transactions Regulator, NITA, in the National Data Centre!!

And yet, despite that limitation, what do we know today? We know that when an audit was conducted in 2025, more than 80% of the facial biometrics captured matched with the data in the NIA database. That is important. That means the process was not some useless or empty exercise as they are now desperately trying to suggest. In fact, it shows that the major part of the work has already been done.

All that is left now is for the less than 20% to be biometrically verified in what can only be termed stage 3 of what we started. That is all.

So the question is simple: if they say the previous exercise had no value or no data, then where did the 80% verification result come from? What data did they use for that audit? You cannot say on one hand that there was no data, and then on the other hand use audit outcomes based on that same exercise. That is contradictory. That is dishonest”.

Ursula further added, “This government should stop pretending that it is starting afresh or doing anything new. It should stop acting as though nothing meaningful was done before now. Governance is a continuum. If something has been started and useful progress has been made, the duty of the next government is to build on it, improve it, and be honest about it.

“You cannot lie about a process, dismiss it in public, and then turn around and do the same thing again. If the previous method was so wrong, why are you repeating the same methodology, the same structure, and the same approach? You cannot condemn a process in the morning, copy it in the afternoon, and come back in the evening to claim you have invented something new,” she wrote.

In her concluding remarks, she wrote in Twi: “Wo nyi m’ayɛ a, mɛnsɛi me din!!” translating to English as “If you cannot praise me, do not tarnish my reputation.”

Gov’t won’t fly supporters to 2026 World Cup – Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will not fly Ghanaian supporters to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to President Mahama, the government’s decision is in line with recommendations in the Dzamefe Report, which warned against the use of public funds for such purposes.

Earlier, Eric Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, urged the John Mahama-led government not to spend public funds on sending Ghanaian supporters to the 2026 World Cup.

The Ketu North MP stressed that the government must prioritise investment in sports infrastructure instead of using public funds to sponsor supporters.

According to Edem Agbana, he estimates that it will cost the government at least  $9,000 (GHS96,524.73) to sponsor a single supporter for just the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He disclosed that the money that would be spent on sponsoring such trips could instead be invested in sports infrastructure like Astro turfs and sports complexes for communities.

Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, March 9, Edem Agbana explained, “I do not think that the government should use public funds to send supporters to the World Cup. It will cost the government, on average, a minimum of $9,000 per supporter just for the group stages.

This includes flights, match tickets, accommodation, and a small allowance. On average, that’s about $9,000. Now, let’s assume the government intends to send 2,000 supporters; we are talking about $18 million”.

The Ketu North MP added, “With two thousand supporters spread across 276 constituencies, it means each constituency would get fewer than ten people. If you ask me to bring even ten people from Ketu North to the World Cup at a cost of close to $90,000, I would tell you to rather use that money to construct an Astro turf or a sports complex for my constituents in Ketu North”.

“We have many people who can travel on their own to watch the games. We also have a lot of Ghanaians living in the countries where the World Cup will be played”.

“I believe we should instead invest in infrastructure. For example, I am planning to construct an Astro turf for my people in Dzozde. Beyond the World Cup, the community will still benefit from that Astro turf,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has revealed plans to sponsor Police Officers and bloggers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the Sports Minister, they plan to send police officers to the World Cup to have the opportunity to learn large crowd management in the stadium.

The minister also revealed plans to send Emergency units, Creative Artistes and Bloggers to gain learn and gain exposure at the World Cup.

Kofi Adams explained that the idea was inspired by American streamer IShowSpeed’s visit to Africa.

Speaking in an interview with Adom FM, Kofi Adams disclosed, “It is not about chasing the ball for 90 minutes; we see it as an opportunity to learn. We would like to send a few people to study aspects of culture, such as fan mobilisation and support.

I have discussed with the IGP that we need to send personnel because we want to form a police unit for sports. So we want to send some police officers to the World Cup to observe crowd control in action and understand how it is done. We want to strengthen the security of the game, if my fundraising [sports fund] works well,” he said.

Kofi Adams further added, “A number of police officers will go, along with one or two members of the emergency response team. We also have creative artists, including bloggers, because it is an opportunity for them to build a base. We saw how IShowSpeed visited us, so if we send them to embark on a similar initiative, they can gain more followers”.

“I am too professional to allow differences of opinion to affect my work” – Ursula hit back at Mahama

0

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the former Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, has hit back at claims made by President John Dramani Mahama over the former government’s SIM registration exercise.

President John Dramani Mahama, addressing a gathering on Thursday, March 19, 2026, claimed there was a conflict between former Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and the former head of the National Identification Authority (NIA), which caused the challenges in the last SIM registration exercise.

President Mahama, addressing a gathering on Thursday, March 19, 2026, stated, “Some time back, we were told to register our SIM cards, which caused great distress to Ghanaians. Even MTN had to mount canopies just to attend to everyone.”

“When that was ongoing, we didn’t know that the former Minister of Communications [Ursula Owusu] was not on speaking terms with the former head of the NIA. They had issues between them,” he disclosed.

President Mahama added, “When you are undertaking a SIM registration, it is important to add it to the national registration so that a number can easily be identified and traced to the owner should that person be engaged in wrongdoing”.

“The sad part is that we didn’t do that, making the previous SIM registration exercise wasteful,” the president stated.

However, in a rebuttal statement, Ursula has said she is too professional to allow differences of opinion to affect my work.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful refuted claims she was not on good terms with Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, former Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA),

According to her, she and Prof. Attafuah maintained regular professional communication throughout the registration process.
