“DStv has deactivated close to a million ghost boxes” – Sam George

0

Sam George, the Minister for Communications and Innovations, has revealed that DStv has deactivated close to a million ghost boxes.

He revealed that DStv has deactivated nearly one million decoders as part of efforts to curb cross-border piracy between Nigeria and Ghana.

Sam George emphasised that it is necessary to tackle the persistent challenge of unauthorised decoders flooding the Ghanaian market.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, September 29, 2025, Sam George stated, , “So far, DStv has deactivated close to a million ghost boxes over a period of time”.

“I have heard people say that DStv has done this before; that is not correct. That is why the presser I did, I said this is unprecedented in DStv’s own marketing modules,” he stressed.

The Minister expressed discontent with those who continue to criticise the new pricing, emphasising that the adjustments are a step in the right direction.

According to Sam George, some people don’t like him, and so they won’t accept the reduction because it came from him.

He added, “I don’t understand why anyone would have a problem if somebody wants to pay 865 cedis to get into a raffle. Bernard people go and bet on football matches and stake more than 1000 cedis on one game.

So if the person chooses to stake 865 for a month, what is your problem? If you cannot afford 865 cedis, there is 570 cedis, which still gives you the same value. So, you can choose to pay 865 cedis or choose to pay 570 cedis”.

“There are people who don’t like Sam George, and so they won’t accept the reduction because it came from me, so they can pay the 865 cedis. Those who are patriotic citizens and appreciate the work of a good government that is working for them will pay their 570 and still get their premium content”, he added.

Sam George further added, “I have heard people say that DStv has done this before; that is not correct. That is why the presser I did, I said this is unprecedented in DStv’s own marketing modules.”

“What DStv has normally done is that you must be an active subscriber, you must renew before the expiration of your current subscription, and you enjoy it for only one month. What we have done with them is a bouquet agonistic,” he said.

Samuel Nartey George announced that Ghanaian DStv subscribers will enjoy between 33% to 50% increased value.

According to Sam George, MultiChoice Africa has committed to an unprecedented increase in value offers specifically for the Ghanaian market.

Speaking at a media briefing, Sam George stated, “ MultiChoice Africa has committed to an unprecedented increase in value offer only in Ghana, which will result in Ghanaian DStv subscribers getting more services for less”.

“Depending on the DStv package or bouquet you use, subscribers will get between 33% to 50% more value,” he added.

Under the arrangement, subscribers on the GHS59 Padi Bouquet will be upgraded to the Access Bouquet valued at GHS99, gaining 35 more channels and saving 40 per cent. Access Bouquet subscribers (GHS99) will move to the GHS190 Family Bouquet and save 48 per cent.

Family Bouquet users (GHS190) will be bumped up to Compact (GHS380) and enjoy live football matches, with a value increase of 50 per cent. Compact subscribers (GHS380) will receive the Compact Plus package (GHS570), saving 33 per cent.

Compact Plus (GHS570) will get Premium (GHS865) with 18 extra channels and a 34 per cent value gain. Premium subscribers will retain current content and also entry into a draw to win fully paid trips to selected Premier League matches.

Man busted for operating a clinic from his home for over 12 years without medical training

A 48-year-old man has been arrested for operating a clinic from his home for over 12 years without a medical licence.

The 48-year-old man has been identified as Hanson Osei.

He was arrested for operating a clinic in his chamber and hall for over 12 years without a medical licence.

Reports suggest that during police interrogation, he boldly admitted to treating people without any training from a recognised medical school.

The news was shared by Ghana Chronicles on X, which reads, “A 48-year-old man, Hanson Osei, has been arrested for operating a “clinic” in his chamber and hall room for over 12 years without a medical licence.

During police interrogation, he boldly admitted to treating people without any training from a recognised medical school”.

Some Ghanaians have reacted to the story, saying, “Questions, how many fatalities has he recorded? What’s the distance & state of the hospital closest to him? What do people see in him that made them patronise him for 12 years? Get witnesses and get your answer. Apart from not being licensed, he may be saving lives”.

Another stated, “Twelve years of running a clinic in a chamber and hall without a license? This is beyond risky, it’s dangerous. Health isn’t trial and error. Authorities must crack down harder, and some Ghanaians must stop gambling with unqualified hands when lives are at stake”.

A netzine added, “They should then arrest all these herbal doctors also. There’s no difference between them and Me. Hanson”.

“They should arrest those who go there for medical treatment too”, another netizen wrote.

One more X user added, “If the community had access to a healthcare facility, would they have patronised that shambolic service?

They’ve been voting for decades, yet something as basic as a medical centre is not available.

We have failed our people!”

Additionally, a Ghanaian added, “If the people are receiving better treatment and not complaining, then we don’t see any problems with you arresting him.

People have knowledge of inventions, but they have never been in an innovation training program or course”.

In related news, the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana (MDC) has revealed quackery as a major challenge affecting medical practice in Ghana.

The MDC revealed that between 2024 and the third quarter of 2025, four individuals have been arrested for unlicensed medical practice.

Also, several others remain under investigation, with prosecution pending.

The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana also raised concerns about forged qualifications by individuals attempting to gain clearance to practice in Ghana.

According to the MDC,  they are working with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to introduce a name tag and stamp policy by 2026 for all health practitioners.

How Tamale Teaching Hospital boss paid a dead man for 26 months after attending his burial service

0

The management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital has been exposed for validating and paying a dead man for 26 months.

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Accra on Monday, September 29, the Tamale Teaching Hospital management was fingered for validating and paying a dead man for 26 months.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament has quizzed the management of Tamale Teaching Hospital over some financial irregularities at the hospital.

Ranking Member Samuel Atta-Mills of PAC quizzed the Tamale Teaching Hospital management on whether they had not attended the deceased staff member’s funeral.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee hearing, Samuel Atta-Mills quizzed, “Habib Napare – date of separation was 2022. This guy had died. Didn’t you go to the funeral? And you validated this dead person for 26 months? And now you are coming to tell Parliament to do what?” Atta-Mills asked sharply”.

A management member reacting to the question from the committee revealed they had so far recovered GHS303,558.68 of the total amount.

He revealed that the Hospital had submitted the names of the individuals implicated in the act to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for recovery.

The management member stated, “We have recovered GHS303,558.68. We have followed a total list to EOCO to help us. EOCO has written back demanding their respective files of the person involved. We have submitted that.

Also, Chairman of the committee, Abena Osei Asare, added, “Moving forward, maybe we will ask you to bring the validators along so they speak to it, maybe they saw the person ghost or saw the person somewhere.

That’s how a deceased person will be validated for 26 good months, and then somebody who has worked for more than three months, six months will be running every day to the Controller and Accountant General just to be validated”.

Some Ghanaians reacted to the shocking development, saying, “This issue is repeatedly brought up in every Public Accounts Committee session, yet these Managing Directors continue holding their positions just by issuing apologies. How long will this go on in Ghana?”.

A netizen added, “And there are no consequences. They maintain their post, go back and device new looting scheme to loot. Such a joke of a country”.

“What’s really the essence of these sittings when government officials are not prosecuted for causing financial loss to the state?”, one more X user wrote.

Additionally, a netizen added, “NSS boss last year same story noting was done, NSA boss same story, nothing was done, ECG scandal nothing was done, eii Ghana ebi some people demma own ooo and we just pay tax for living in it. All this, yet when a common Citizen, out of desperation, commit the least of crimes, 20 years”.

One more Ghanaian wrote, “Is about time validation is assigned to various heads of departments rather than letting only one HR personnel do it for all Staff. When one travels and is in an area council like the MMDAs, they will validate for months b4 they know he is not at post. Sake of nono fio, one will do all”.

“These are crimes that people have to be going to prison for? Recovery alone shouldn’t be the answer. What did we sack the chief justice for again?”, a Ghanian wrote.

One more X user added, “You buried him with one hand and kept paying him with the other. 26 months of “ghost” salary… comedy at taxpayers’ expense. A few have turned the nation into a cash cow, so no wonder the country is poor while its people are filthy rich”.

“This country really needs someone of Donald Trump’s calibre. Because if we keep voting for these professors, lawyers, communicators, etc, our country will remain where it is. In a serious country, the committee will order the police to take these guys away”, A Ghanaian on X suggested.

Meanwhile, the Auditor-General’s (A-G) report has also revealed that the hospital paid salaries amounting to GHS 1,449,000 to a deceased staff member for a period of 26 months

Lawyer Owusu Badu sworn in as acting Chairman of the General Council of the Kristo Asafo Mission

0

Lawyer Festus Owusu Badu has been sworn in as acting Chairman of the General Council of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana.

He has been tasked with carrying forward the legacy of the Church’s late founder, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

In a viral video, Lawyer Festus Owusu Badu was clothed in a beautiful kente as he was sworn in as the chairman.

His swearing in was greeted with loud cheers from the Kristo Asafo Mission congregants.

The late Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s death was announced on Sunday, 14, 2025.

The news was announced in a statement by Sarah Adwoa Safo (former MP for Dome Kwabenya).

According to the statement, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo passed away peacefully on Thursday, 11th September 2025.

In related news, A former member of the Kristo Asafo Church has called on Church members to wake up, as the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo was not God.

According to the lady, she was once a member of this church and deeply involved in this idolatry.

She revealed they prayed through him instead of through Jesus.

The former member of the Kristo Asafo Church urged members to repent as the Kingdom of God is at hand, adding that Jesus alone is the way, the truth, and the life.

Speaking in a viral video following the death of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo the lady stated, “I deeply empathise with you over the passing of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, but you must wake. Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo was not God. The reason why I am so passionate about speaking about this today, idolatry,  I was part of this church, I worshipped him.

In fact, I remember that, growing up, when I was sick in any part of my body, we were taught to take a picture of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, fetch a glass of water, put this picture on the glass of water and pray to Apostle Kwadwo Safo to heal us, we believed he was a god, we believe he was the survivor”.

She further added, “Today, on his passing, I am led to make this video to encourage you to find a church; you need Jesus Christ; he is the only one true God. Jesus died, but on the third day he rose again, and Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo has died now, and he will not resurrect.

I have seen some videos about reincarnation. People are saying he would reincarnate. I am sorry, it is nonsense.

Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo is dead. He was human, he was flesh just like you and I, he was not a God. The fact that he had some wisdom to be able to make some technological inventions did not mean he was God”.

She further added that there are so many branches of the Kristo Asafo Church all over the world, and her heart bleeds, “For the thousands of people going to hell because they believe the lie that Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo was God, please wake up. I am pleading with you, give your life to Christ and repent from this idolatry”.

Abronye DC referred to the NPP’s disciplinary committee

0

Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC, to the party’s disciplinary committee.

According to the statement issued by Justin Kodua, he has petitioned the National Disciplinary Committee of the NPP regarding Abronye’s conduct.

Justin Kodua noted that Abronye DC, the NPP Bono regional chairman, was hurting the party’s image and insulting party members by making baseless accusations against him.

Part of the statement, which was issued on September 30, 2025, reads, “Mr Baffoe is reported to have publicly insulted Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, a distinguished member of the Party, with derogatory statements, including a claim that ‘even the elephant has more wisdom than Hon. Agyapong.’ Such remarks are unprintable, defamatory, and damaging to the reputation of Hon. Agyapong and the Party at large.

“Mr Baffoe further alleged that the General Secretary deliberately concealed a report that purportedly implicated Hon. Agyapong as the destroyer of the Party and recommended his expulsion. These allegations are false, malicious, and injurious to the integrity of the Office of the General Secretary,”

“Mr Baffoe has purported to disclose and misrepresent the contents of a Disciplinary Committee report, alleging that it catalogued various offences attributed to Hon. Agyapong. Such conduct constitutes a serious breach of confidentiality, discretion, decorum, and party discipline, while also undermining the authority of the Committee,” the statement added.

Abronye had earlier alleged that the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, is sitting on the 2023 Disciplinary Committee report concerning NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong.

He claimed the party’s disciplinary committee recommended the sacking of Kennedy Agyapong from the party.

Speaking on Ohia TV, Abronye stated, “The 2023 disciplinary report recommends that Kennedy Agyapong should be sacked from the NPP because he is damaging the party and engaging in anti-party behaviour”.

“Justin Kodua is the one saving him. Assin Dompo, the destroyer who sold the NPP’s seat to A Plus… The report is with Justin Kodua, and he is sitting on it. He is the only person who knows why he is keeping it, and there will be a time when we will ask him about it.

“The party has structures, so why would he keep the report to himself instead of laying it before the national executives or council? The report detailed all of Agyapong’s anti-party conduct,” Abronye DC added.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has run from comments made by Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) of the Ashanti Region and Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC of the Bono Region.

Chairman Wontumi is reported to have said the NPP’s decision to hold the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was designed to favour a particular aspirant.

Also, Abronye has claimed he compiles the Bono Regional album, and he will prevent certain individuals from voting in the January 31, 2026, primaries.

However, the NPP reiterates its dedication to transparency, fairness, and integrity in all internal processes.

According to the NPP, no individual has control over the compilation of polling station albums, and we refute claims that the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries date favours any aspirant.

They further assured stakeholders that every decision is made in the supreme interest of the Party to ensure unity and victory in 2028.

“Justin Kodua sitting on NPP’s disciplinary committee reports to sack Ken Agyapong” – Abronye

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has claimed the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, is sitting on the 2023 Disciplinary Committee report concerning NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong.

He claimed the party’s disciplinary committee recommended the sacking of Kennedy Agyapong from the party.

According to Abronye, Justin Kodua is the one saving Kennedy Agyapong from being sacked from the NPP.

They further assured stakeholders that every decision is made in the supreme interest of the Party to ensure unity and victory in 2028.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 28, 2025, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua stated, “The National Leadership of the New Patriotic Party urges the public and its stakeholders to disregard recent public pronouncements by the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and the Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, as their statements do not represent the ideals and practices of the party.

“The Party wishes to categorically state that no individual, irrespective of rank or position, has a monopoly or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums,” portions of the statement read.

The statement added, “For the avoidance of doubt, the compilation of the polling station album strictly adheres to established compliance procedures. The National Secretariat will, at the appropriate time, issue clear and transparent guidelines, protocols, and procedures designed to safeguard integrity, credibility, and fairness at every stage of the process.

“We wish to assure all stakeholders, particularly polling station executives across the country, that such pronouncements should be disregarded and treated with the utmost contempt they deserve”.

“The Party affirms that this assertion is unfounded. The National Council exhaustively deliberated and took the decision in the Party’s supreme and strategic interest. Given the calibre of the members of the National Council, no individual can manipulate or influence a decision in his or her favour,” the statement added.

The NPP statement concluded by stating that, “The decision to hold an early congress is intended solely to provide the Party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028. The Party remains resolutely committed to upholding transparency, fairness, and internal democracy in all its processes. Leadership will continue to ensure that every stage of our electoral activities reflects the highest standards of integrity and credibility”.

I fired my wife and son from my company – Ken Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, a Ghanaian businessman and former member of parliament for Assin Central, has recounted how he fired his wife and son from his company.

Speaking at a gathering, Ken Agyapong revealed that his son did not have time for his business and that anytime he visited, his son was not around due to his other engagements.

He recounted that he told the lawyer to pay his wife and son, but afterwards he fired them.

The NPP presidential aspirant stated, “My son is doing very well; he does the Afrochella, whatever, Americans gave him a contract to recruit Africans, so he does not have time for my business. Anytime I go there, he is not around.

So, I said, thank God you are doing your own business, I have fired him and the mother too” Kennedy Agyapong’s remark drew loud laughter from the crowd.

He added, “Now I told the mother whatever money you were getting, the lawyer give the same money to her, but she is out, and my son is also out. The worker over there knows that I fired my wife and son.

That is how I manage to get things done. I am very strict, so the message is clear: if you work with me, I will treat you well, but if you try to be dishonest or dupe me, I will get you fired”.

Ken Agyapong, some months ago, in an interview, also warned young entrepreneurs to avoid doing business with family members.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, if one wants to succeed in Ghana, he or she must not do business with family members except their wife or children.

He noted that family ties can pose dangerous risks to business performance and accountability.

Speaking on the Konnected Minds Podcast, Mr Agyapong stated, “If you want to succeed here, especially in Ghana, don’t rely on your relatives or involve your brothers, sisters, or family members in your business—except maybe your children or wife”.

Mr Agyapong further added that people settle too easily and urged Ghanaians to be willing to do more and work for longer hours.

In a separate interaction, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has said politics is no longer attractive in Ghana.

The former lawmaker expressed his disappointment with the current state of politics in Ghana, adding that he wouldn’t advise his children to pursue a career in it.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, many politicians do not speak the truth, which has eroded public trust in them, making politics unattractive.

Speaking at the National Emerging Leaders Economic Forum on Monday, September 22, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “Politics is no longer attractive, and I would never advise any of my children to go into it”.

Kennedy Agypong further called on Ghanaian youth to take charge of their lives.

He added, “The youth are overdependent on government for their survival; they need to take charge of their lives”.

Kennedy Agyapong also advised Ghanaian youths they cannot depend on the government alone to become rich or successful.

Mr Agyapong made these remarks while talking about his plans for the youth, focusing on creating an enabling environment that will reduce the youth’s dependence on the government.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, he would ensure that the youths who want to go into business will have startup capital.

Mr Agyapong detailed, “As a businessman, I have come to realise that the youth are not given opportunities. When you talk of youth unemployment, all those agencies, unless the government creates an enabling environment, so that the youths can take advantage of it.

The youths are overdependent on the government; no youth depending on the government alone can survive or be a rich or successful person”.

He added, “You have to take your destiny into your own hands and make sure that you take advantage of what is going on and move ahead; don’t wait.  What I will also be doing is to find ways for the youths to have startup capital for Ghanaian youths who want to venture into business”.

Sam George, the Minister for Communications, has weighed in on the recent price adjustment by Multichoice DSTV.

“@samgeorgegh hon, U didn’t consider consumer psyche in communicating the new packages..U should have announced the packages in descending order, that helps to clearly highlight the reduction..highlighting an increased offer and not a reduced price does nothing to consumer psyche”, a netizen added.

Watch the state of Baba Yara sports stadium after Sarkodie’s rapperholic

0

On Saturday night, September 27, 2025, thousands of fans gathered for Sarkodie’s ‘Rapperholic concert at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium became the centre of Ghana’s entertainment world despite heavy downpours that soaked the equipment and fans.

The thousands of fans stood in the rain in their hoodies, raincoats, and umbrellas, cheering louder.

Even with the rain initially disrupting the show, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was alive with music, laughter, and enjoyment.

The thousands of fans stayed until the rain stopped, and the show continued till Sunday morning.

On Sunday, after the fans left Sarkodie’s rapperholic, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was left with filth, plastic bottles and some clothes from the fans.

In the viral video, some event planners were captured busily packing their equipment in the filth.

Some Ghanaians have reacted to the video saying, “ But it was wrong to post it, not fair as a country bro”.

“We can post when the stadium is filled with people, but we can’t post the there is no one here? Nyams pɛ ne noks”, another X user stated.

“We be dirty too much chale, suban tantan sei,we are just too dirty”, another added.

Meanwhile, Sarkodie has apologised to his colleagues who could not perform at the Rapperholic Homecoming concert.

Musicians such as Gyakie, Ypee, and a few others were unable to mount the stage at the rapperholic.

In an interview with YFM Kumasi, Sarkodie stated, “This is the craziness that happened backstage that went out of hand. My sister wasn’t able to be there. I personally had to reach out right from the stage to call her.

Because I can imagine her coming all the way just to come and support me, not because of anything. The fact that ‘my big brother is doing something, let me come and support.’ And then when you come, there will be a lot of things that happen backstag”e.

He added, “A lot of emotions will run through you, especially because of how far she came from. Pretty sure she came with family that came to see her. Ypee wasn’t able to perform as well, big shouts to my boy. I know that he knows that I got him. It’s beyond this. Sorry to all these guys who weren’t able to grace the stage. I still thank them,” Sarkodie said.

“I don’t know my tomorrow, but I’ll serve this country in any capacity” – Haruna Iddrisu

0

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has once again broken his silence regarding whether he will be contesting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential race to succeed President John Mahama.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, he does not know what his future holds, but he will serve Ghana in any capacity as he is doing.

He emphasised that it is not only as president that one can serve Ghana.

Haruna Iddrisu further thanked Ghanaans who see him as presidential material.

Speaking on GHOne TV in an interview with Serwaa Amihere, Haruna Iddrisu stated, “I don’t know my tomorrow, but I’ll serve this country in any capacity as I’m already doing, it is not only in the office of the president that you can contribute to the public good or the distribution of public goods and services.

I should thank those people who find me fit to want to be president or want to run for president or want to support me for president, but God time as I have always said…”.

When asked directly if he wanted to be president, Haruna Iddrisu stated, “ I thought this is to be answered by God; if I live to see tomorrow and live to see the future, it will determine what I will do with my life”.

However, a latest poll by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, is still in the lead as the preferred candidate to succeed President John Mahama for the NDC.

The Global InfoAnalytics poll shows Haruna Iddrisu in a lead with 29.8 per cent, while NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia secured 24.1%, and Finance Minister Ato Forson, who garnered 18.4% support.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah is also in fourth with 10.3%, while Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa came fifth with 8.1%.

Other contenders Eric Opoku recorded 2.5%, Prof. Joshua Alabi 2.2%, and Armah Kofi-Buah 2.0%.

Kwame Awuah Darko (1.6%), Spio Garbrah (1.1%), and Okoe Vanderpuye (0.1%)  were at the bottom of the poll as the least preferred candidates to succeed John Mahama.

Additionally, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told party members to kill the conversation surrounding who succeeds President John Mahama.

According to Mustapha Gbande, he is determined that President Mahama must succeed.

He emphasised that if the National Democratic Congress fail Ghanaians, they can bring Jesus Christ as a presidential candidate, they will still go to the opposition.

Speaking on JoyNews’ News Desk, Gbande stated, “I am determined that President Mahama must succeed, and that is my focus in the meantime,” he stated.

“That is also the focus of the larger and majority of individuals in our party. We cannot fail the masses, we cannot fail you, we cannot fail the people of Ghana. So let us kill this conversation for now. That discussion is one for when the time is right.”

“We just came to power, and we are yet to give a full account of our one-year term,” Gbande said.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary added, “In the proper context of political transitions, there has never been a time when any government has, within nine months, been met with the kind of expectations we now face”.

“Our trump card will be our performance. If we fail, we can go and bring Jesus Christ to come and lead the party; we will still go to the opposition,” he warned.

Gbande also took a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying, “The only luck we have is that the alternative is not something anyone would want to venture into. Currently, they are enemies of the state and very disorganised”.

“We are happy that these polls are coming, no two ways about it, but I am saying that this is not the time to engage in that conversation”, he added.

Video – Woman catches husband at a chop bar grinding ginger and pepper after failing to provide chop money

0

A married woman has confronted her husband at a chop bar, where he was preparing to grind ginger and pepper for a meal, after failing to provide chop money for his wife and family at home.

According to the woman, she regrets marrying her husband as he is a bad person.

The woman further aimed at the brother of her husband, who was also at the chop bar, preparing to grind ginger.

In the viral video post on X by EDHUB, the wife stated, “Instead of you providing chop money for us to cook at home for everyone to eat, you are here at a chop bar about to eat.

Sister, since morning, no one has eaten at home, and you are here about to grind pepper at a chop bar to eat”.

She further expressed her regrets in marrying her husband, “ I have regretted this marriage, I regret marrying Aboagye, and you also, Senior husband, your brother is doing something wrong for you to advise him you are here about to grind garlic.

There is a bad marriage; look at the number of meats you are about to consume, we could have used this meat for soup for two days. You are a bad person”.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the video saying, “Abrante3 twe mako 😂 but on a real the woman shy am too much. Sometimes men go through it without having anyone to speak to . Let’s not judge him”.

Another netizen added, “For all you know, his elder brother is the one paying for the meal.

He might genuinely be broke, but it would have been wise to borrow a few cedis from his brother to support home if indeed he was broke.

What if his brother didn’t have enough and decided to share his food with him?

Lots of questions on my mind, but he’s still wrong”.

One more netizen wrote, “People for relax. For all you may know, he’s going through a lot,& the brother is the one paying for that food, one will ask, Why hasn’t he taken the food home? People who have dealt with the rich know,“Oh let’s eat together, I’ll sort you afterwards” The lady shouldn’t have done that!”.

Additionally, one more X user added, “The role of a married man is to provide, yet some stupid feminists keep ranting about women being the prize.

Also, this is one of the reasons why some men ask what you bring to the table. Cos if you can’t provide for yourself when the man doesn’t, then you’re just a liability”.

“I’m not supporting the man’s decision but what if it’s his friend feeding him this time?”, a netizen added.

An X user advises the woman to look for a job, saying, “Can’t she look for a better job and stop depending on her husband”.

One more netizen added, “Justice for Aboagye and his friend “the garlic man” . The woman should be arrested immediately for disgracing the brotherhood”.

I thank those who see me fit for president – Haruna Iddrisu

0

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has thanked Ghanaians who see him as presidential material.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, he does not know what his future holds, but he will serve Ghana in any capacity as he is doing.

He emphasised that it is not only as president that one can serve Ghana.

“Ken Agyapong rose against the Church; today he needs the Church’s votes” – Pastor fires

0

A man of God in a viral video has fired shots at Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant.

The man of God recounted that Kennedy Agyapong rose against the church when COVID came, but today needs the church’s votes.

According to the man of God, Kennedy Agyapong, said he would close down all one-man churches if he were president of Ghana, leaving only Roman, Pentecostal and Methodist.

The Pastor confidently told the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that their only hope is the former vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking to his congregant in a viral video shared on X, the Pastor detailed, “When Covid came, a man that I respected so much, more than any honourable in Ghana, Kennedy Agyapong, I even respected him more than any other men of God but when Covid came, this same man rose against the church, thinking he was disgracing the church, and he had the audacity to say that if he were the president, he would destroy all one-man churches in Ghana.

Today, that same man needs the church’s vote. If you are speaking, be careful. I am telling you, the only hope of NPP is Bawumia. The same man who rose against the church and Ghana is a Christian country, and this man rose up singlehandedly against the church”.

The man of God further added, “He stated that if he were president, only Roman, Pentecostal and Methodist would be left to operate today, the same man needs people’s vote. I am not somebody who is afraid of the truth”.

Meanwhile, Bishop Sam Owusu has said that Kennedy Agyapong will win the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary polls scheduled for January 31, 2026 and lead the party as its flagbearer in the 2028 general elections.

According to Bishop Sam Owusu, Kennedy Agyapong will secure about 57.7% to win the NPP’s flagbearer.

The man of God revealed that President Mahama has been ordained to lay a solid foundation, but Kennedy Agyapong is the chosen one to build on and lead an industrial revolution in the country.

In a viral video, Bishop Sam Owusu stated, “Hear me, church, hear me and pray for him so that the mercies of God and the hand of God will continue to bring him to that place.

During the COVID time, I saw the man Kennedy Agyapong leading their party, and last month I mentioned it. And today, the Lord said I should mention it again. Church, hear me and pray for him.”

“I saw over 1 million young men that God has used him to lead, following him,” he added.

The man of God emphatically prophesied that Kennedy Agyapong will secure about “57.7%” of the votes to emerge the winner.

“I kept on prophesying about Kennedy Agyapong. It’s because I saw over 1 million young men that God has used him to lead them, and all of them are doing business,” he stressed.

However, a latest poll by the Global Info Analytics, which reveals Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, has taken a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.

The poll results published on social media platforms by the Global Info Analytics revealed that Dr Bawumia secured 47 per cent of delegate support and is the clear front-runner ahead of the NPP’s primaries.

Dr Bawumia continues to enjoy the confidence of nearly half of the delegates surveyed.

Kennedy Agyapong, the former Assin Central legislator, emerged second with 17 per cent of delegates’ support.

Mahama gov’t sued over ORAL legality

0

Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, has filed a writ at the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the Mahama government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

On September 24, 2025, Kuranchie filed his writ invoking the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 2(1)(b) of the 1992 Constitution.

According to Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, the formation and operations of ORAL, including its investigations, decisions, reports, and prosecutions involving present and former government officials, are unconstitutional.

He argues that ORAL lacks the legal mandate required under the Constitution to perform such functions.

It will be recalled that on February 10, 2025, the ORAL team submitted their final report to President John Mahama, who has since directed the Attorney General for further actions.

The chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that with just 36 cases, Ghana can potentially recover $ 20.49 billion in stolen state resources.

Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie is seeking;

“A declaration that all reports, decisions, investigations, and conclusions made by ORAL are unconstitutional and therefore null and void.

A declaration that all prosecutions arising from ORAL’s activities are unconstitutional.

An order directing the Attorney General to halt all actions stemming from ORAL’s operations until the Supreme Court rules on the case.

An order for a full audit of all public funds spent on ORAL’s activities.

An order to surcharge individuals involved in ORAL for any government expenditures identified in the audit”.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General is expected to respond within 14 days of being served.

In related news, Kofi Bentil, a private legal practitioner, has said that the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) was overhyped and it is under-delivering.

According to Kofi Bentil, despite his criticism of ORAL performance, he maintains his support for the overall goal of fighting corruption.

Speaking on The Key Points on TV3, Saturday, September 27, Kofi Bentil stated, “ORAL was overhyped and it is under-delivering. But I support the call to fight corruption”.

Additionally, the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Srem Sai, has reassured Ghanaians that the John Mahama-led government is working to pursue cases under the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.

According to Dr Srem Sai, the concerns about the pace of ORAL cases are legitimate, but he stressed that due process must be followed.

Speaking in an interview on TV3, Dr Srem Sai stated, “The public will say they don’t see anything, but the point I am trying to make is that the expectation is legitimate because of what we have witnessed.

The work we are doing is very thorough and vibrant. I hardly sleep, but the public has to be made aware that we just can’t bundle people based on complaints and throw them into jail”.

Dr Srem Sai also added that the legal vacation had contributed to delays.

“To the extent that for Adu Boahene, we have covered one-third of the case, if not for the legal vacation, which stops the court for two months, we would probably have concluded our case, and then the defence would be open.

We will come back in October and continue from where we left off. That is very fast if you compare it with all the other criminal trials that we are even doing here,” he noted.

Video – Mother burst into tears after her daughter was placed in a school situated in a bush

0

A mother has burst into tears, claiming her daughter has been placed in a school situated in a bush near a farm in Kasoa.

According to the mother, her daughter was placed in a school she selected, which she later discovered to be located on a farm near Kasoa.

She added that despite her efforts to secure a change, authorities informed her that the Senior High School placement for her ward could not be changed.

In the viral video, the mother, in tears, stated, “The school is in a bush, it is a farm, the school is located in Kasoa, Denkyira.  I cannot let my daughter go and sleep there”.

When I got there, I did not even see anyone picking forms over there. After seeing how the school was, I did not even stand there. The car I boarded to the school charged me 90 cedis”.

Some Ghanaians have reacted to the news, saying, “This is the problem. Parents do not go to their wards’ school when the school selection is being done. They leave it to the child and the teachers, and when placement comes, they now want their children in schools they want and not where the children chose”.

“So we should cry or vote NPP in 2026, or what exactly do you want us to do?”, another added.

“Every place attractive today was made possible by others, so let the child go and lift the flag high. Maybe that’s where she can make a difference”, one X user added.

A netizen added, “But the school selection done by the parents and their ward, so if you are now crying, it means you never cared about the direction of your child”.

Meanwhile, Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, has said the confusion over the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is because parents want top schools for their children.

According to Kofi Asare, there is enough space to accommodate all qualified candidates, but parents and their children are chasing top schools.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Kofi Asare stated, “The problems are not entirely new, apart from one which is new, a problem that was resolved in the past, I don’t know how it resurfaced this year. But generally, the issues relating to parents’ resentment of schools that the computer placed them in are normal, and they are going to be with us so long as we have inadequate resources as a lower-middle-income country”.

“The government of Ghana has adequate spaces to accommodate all 590k or so candidates who have qualified for placement. What the Government of Ghana does not have is the taste of all the 590k students. So there will definitely be some dis-equilibrium between the expectation of candidates, parents on one side and government’s ability to provide education to their taste,” he stressed.

Kofi Asare further explained, “Everybody wants to attend a good Category A and Category B school. You have about 700 plus Senior High Schools, and then you have people chasing about 100 schools. So these issues will continue to emerge so far as there are resource deficits”.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has boldly stated that he would not accept a student with an aggregate of 37 going into a Category A school.

According to the Education Minister, the ongoing SHS school placement process will be based solely on merit.

He emphasised that anyone found manipulating the system would be dealt with accordingly.

Haruna Iddrisu made this known while addressing concerns raised by some parents.

President Mahama invites CSOs for a dialogue on galamsey

0

President John Dramani Mahama invites Civil Society Organisations to a high-level engagement on illegal mining.

The meeting is scheduled for Friday, 3rd October, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Jubilee House.

The dialogue is expected to bring together government officials and civil society leaders to find a lasting solution to the menace of illegal mining.

In a letter issued by Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, it indicates the dialogue will serve as a platform for frank and constructive discussions on illegal mining.

The letter stated, “This engagement aims to provide a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between the Government and civil society on the menace of illegal mining, with a view to harnessing collective expertise, perspectives, and solutions to address this national challenge”.

President Mahama’s invitation comes at a time when his government have been receiving backlash over their failure to properly deal with illegal mining.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has ordered the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) Task Force to be firm, resolute and ruthless.

According to the Lands Minister, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations has the full support of President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at the deployment of the NAIMOS Task Force in Sunyani on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Armah-Kofi Buah stated, “The fight against illegal mining is not going to stop, and every measure at the Presidency is going to be used. I charge you with a profound sense of duty and patriotism.

Any recalcitrant who enters these zones is not only a trespasser, but also an enemy of the state. You are to be firm, resolute, and ruthless.

“You will take no obtrusive intrusion from any big man. Remember, the biggest man in Ghana is the President, and he is the one who has sent you,” Mr Buah declared.

“The most powerful person in this country, the President, is fully backing you on this mission. The NDC does not and will not endorse what our President is against. In the bush or in a water body, there is no political colour.

So, if anybody goes in the name of a political colour, arrest the person. If anybody comes in the name of the President, also arrest the person,” he said.

Also, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, has called on NAIMOS to enforce the law without fear or favour.

He stated, “The most powerful person in this country, the President, is fully backing you on this mission. The NDC does not and will not endorse what our President is against. In the bush or in a water body, there is no political colour.

So, if anybody goes in the name of a political colour, arrest the person. If anybody comes in the name of the President, also arrest the person,” Mustapha Gbande said.

Furthermore, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a private legal practitioner and social activist, has said kingpins’ financing of galamsey activities remains untouched.

According to Vormawor, in the government’s galamsey fight so far, Ghanaians have yet to see the arrest of galamsey kingpins.

The social activist demanded a clear roadmap from state agencies on the strategy to fight the menace and criticised the lack of high-profile arrests.

Speaking on TV3 Key Point on September 27, 2025, Oliver Barker-Vormawor stated, “So far, we have yet to see the arrest of the kingpins who are financing galamsey activities”.

He added, “We need a roadmap from the agencies on how best we are fighting the menance”.

Also, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, in a separate interview, warned  President John Dramani Mahama that the illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, will haunt him even if the cedi goes to GHC6 to a dollar.

According to Vormawor, no economic gains can erase the galamsey stain on Mahama’s legacy.

He argued that, even if the economy records significant growth, neglecting the fight against illegal mining would undermine the administration’s credibility.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, September 24, Barker-Vormawor warned, “Anybody who feels that if the cedi were to go to GHC6 to a dollar, the galamsey question is not going to leave the President, it’s going to haunt him.”

Oliver Barker-Vormawor further highlighted that the John Mahama government’s credibility has been dented by failed galamsey promises.

He noted that the government has already fallen short of its own commitments by failing to repeal Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462 within its first 120 days.

The social activist added, “The truth is we’re facing an environmental crisis of proportions that none of us have ever imagined. The responses to it must consistently reassure public trust in the way you want to move.

The first thing the government promised us in its social contract was that within 120 days, it would repeal L. I 2462, and it comes in and does the opposite. Already you are sending signals”.

“When you send signals on some of the low-hanging fruit like that, it doesn’t create the impression that you are serious about it. Some of the back and forth of some of the people sent to the field involved in extorting money is a credibility denter. The deportation of the Chinese nationals involved in galamsey is a credibility denter,” Barker-Vormawor stressed.

“It is still not over” – Mussa Dankwa on Bawumia’s commanding lead in NPP presidential primaries

0

Mussa Dankwa, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has said Kennedy Agyapong and other contenders face a daunting task to catch up with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Mussa Dankwa, it is still not over, but it is highly unlikely that every undecided voter will go to one candidate.

He highlighted that Dr Bawumia’s advantage will be difficult to overturn.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Monday, September 29, Mussa Dankwa stated, “It is still not over. I won’t say it is over, but if you look at where the leading candidate is, it is highly unlikely that every undecided voter will go to one candidate”.

“We believe that Kennedy has to do a lot more to bring Dr Bawumia down, or his other competitors should do a lot more in order to drag Dr Bawumia from where he is,” he added.

Mussa Dankwa’s remarks come following a latest poll by the Global Info Analytics, which reveals Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, has taken a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.

Dr Bryan Acheampong secured only 3 per cent of delegates’ votes, while Dr Yaw Adutwum and Ing Kwabena Agyapong secured 1 per cent of delegates’ votes respectively.

However, the poll revealed that a significant number of delegates, 27 per cent, remain undecided.

Also, the poll revealed  57 per cent of Ghanaians prefer former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the next general election.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said his team are not taking anything for granted.

Speaking to journalists after his vetting, Dr Bawumia emphasised that they are going to campaign to sell their ideas and sell the NPP to secure his bid as presidential candidate of the NPP.

Dr Bawumia further expressed satisfaction with his vetting and hopes the committee is satisfied with his answers.

The NPP aspirant stated, “We have had very fruitful discussions. They have asked many questions, and I have answered those questions. So I am very satisfied with my vetting, and I pray that everything is okay. I hope the committee is as satisfied as I am”.

“I want to thank the rank and file of this party, and I think that from vetting we are heading straight into the country to campaign,” he noted.

Dr Bawumia added, “We are not taking anything for granted. We have to campaign, sell our ideas and sell the NPP so that we can secure this nomination and proceed for the 2028 election”.

“Ignore the conspiracy theorists and scaremongers” – Ablakwa on US visa restrictions reversal

0

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged Ghanaians to ignore the conspiracy theorists and scaremongers following the United States government’s visa restrictions reversal.

Ablakwa, some days ago, revealed that the US has reversed its visa restrictions imposed on Ghana in July this year.

Ghanaians are now eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas, along with other enhanced consular privileges.

The Minister revealed that the information was communicated to him by the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, during a bilateral meeting with Ghana’s delegation at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made this known on his social media page X on Friday, September 26. He wrote, “Big win for Ghana!

The US visa restrictions imposed on Ghana have been reversed.

Ghanaians can now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas and other enhanced consular privileges.

This good news was directly communicated to me by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, at a bilateral meeting earlier today, in the margins of the UN General Assembly”.

Ablakwa post added, “I am really pleased that months of high-level diplomatic negotiations has led to a successful outcome.

It will be recalled that the US imposed visa restrictions on Ghana and other countries in July this year. The affected countries were slapped with a maximum three-month single-entry visa and other limitations. In the specific case of Ghana, the Trump Administration said they were reacting to many years of visa overstays, mainly by students”.

Ablakwa described the reversal as a healthier and stronger Ghana-US relations.

However, Franklin Cudjoe, the President of Policy Think Tank, IMANI Africa, has quizzed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on whether the US visa reversal was all Ghana got for accepting West African US deportees.

He noted that Ablakwa could have negotiated for a good reduction of the15% tariff imposed on Ghana.

According to Franklin Cudjoe, he wished Ablakwa had not posted and celebrated the US visa restrictions reversal.

He highlighted that Ghana should not be settling for a visa pittance after President Mahama’s daring speech on Gaza.

Franklin Cudjoe, in his post on X, wrote, “ Frankly, my brother Honourable Okudzeto, I wish this had not been posted and celebrated. We had this already. Yes, I know the Trump administration threatened visa restrictions, but we could have negotiated for more, perhaps a good reduction of the 15% tariff imposed on Ghana.

He added, “Knowing that  Trump is a deal maker on almost everything and given our President’s daring , audaciously  great speech on Gaza, we should not be settling for this visa pittance. Is this all we got from taking in our deportee West African neighbours?  Anyways”

In a rebuttal, Ablakwa, in a statement on X, noted that since the reversal of US visa restrictions under President Donald Trump, false claims had continued to circulate.

He wrote, “Since Ghana became the only country under US visa restrictions to secure a reversal from the Trump Administration, an avalanche of conspiracy theories has been making the rounds.

May I respectfully ask that you ignore the conspiracy theorists and scaremongers.

We offer the following full assurances to Ghanaians:

1) Ghana will not be a dumping ground for US removals;

2) Ghana is not accepting criminals from the US;

3) The understanding with the US government to accept a very limited number of pre-vetted West African nationals without criminal backgrounds is consistent with our ECOWAS protocols and Pan-African credentials. It should be noted that, regardless of this arrangement, West African nationals are allowed to enter Ghana without visas;

4) Our mutually beneficial deal with the US government will not undermine Ghana’s security and stability in anyway;

5) Claims that our ongoing negotiations with the US focuses solely on receiving US removals are false. The negotiations I am leading on President Mahama’s instruction includes a strong case for a reassessment of the 15% tariff imposed on Ghana, additionally we are negotiating a special Ghana-US trade deal, engaging on specific requests from US companies and holding fruitful talks on the future of AGOA which is of immense importance to Ghanaian garment companies.

The Mahama Administration deeply cares for you — we shall keep working tirelessly to protect our strategic national interest, and we shall ensure our best efforts benefit all Ghanaians”, his statement added.

“God of Akufo-Addo will judge appointees who caused his downfall” – Chairman Buga

0

The 3rd Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu Osman, commonly known as Chairman Buga, has said the God of Akufo-Addo will judge appointees who caused his downfall.

Chairman Buga claimed former President Akufo-Addo’s appointees hated him and caused his downfall.

According to Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Akufo-Addo’s lack of reshuffling in his government was not the problem.

Speaking in an interview on Sompa TV, Chairman Buga stated, “I had the mentality that human beings are bad and there was no way reshuffling in Akufo-Addo’s government could have made any better impact”.

“When we were elected as national officers… those that Akufo-Addo gave them better appointment, like at COCOBOD or as CEO of any company, you shouldn’t expect Akufo-Addo to come and tell you to support the party members who fought to bring the NPP to power”, he added.

He highlighted that Akufo-Addo appointees abandoned the party’s grassroots members after their appointments.

Chairman Buga also claimed Akufo-Addo’s appointees did not truly support him and cited the CEO of the Minerals Commission.

“For me, I see that many of the people Akufo-Addo appointed were his enemies; they hated him…and the God of Akufo-Addo will judge such people for causing his downfall.

“I picked up intelligence that the CEO of the Minerals Commission was against us. Everything we did, he allegedly reported to the NDC. But when we informed Akufo-Addo, he trusted him so much that he did not act”, he claimed.

In related news, Franklin Cudjoe, the President of IMANI Africa, has accused former President Akufo-Addo of mismanaging billions of dollars in COVID-19 funds during the pandemic.

The think tank president cited findings from a special audit into the COVID-19 funds, noting that only 40 per cent of the money received was properly used to tackle the pandemic and economic fallout.

In a social media post, Franklin Cudjoe stated, “We lived it, saw it, complained, and Nana Akufo-Addo ignored us. In fact, Nana and his gang received almost $2bn in free money to fight off Covid-19 and its impact on our economy.

“They raided the accounts and shared the money mostly among party faithfuls,” he wrote.

He further referenced a recent report by the World Bank saying, “In its 2025 Policy Notes on Ghana, the Bank was unequivocal; ‘The deterioration of global conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine was not the cause of the 2022 macroeconomic crisis; rather, it merely exposed an economy already beset with deep structural vulnerabilities and precarious macroeconomic conditions’”.

Meanwhile, the World Bank has dismissed the Akufo-Addo administration’s long-standing claims that Ghana’s 2022 economic collapse was driven by global shocks.

For years, the former Akufo-Addo government and appointees attributed the severity of Ghana’s economic downturn, surging inflation, and a free-falling currency to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The World Bank, however, argues that domestic policy failures were decisive.

According to the World Bank, the former Akufo-Addo government’s economic collapse was self-inflicted, citing weak governance, fiscal indiscipline, and delayed reforms.

In the World Bank 2025 Policy Notes on Ghana, it reads, “The deterioration of global conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine was not the cause of the 2022 macroeconomic crisis; rather, it merely exposed an economy already beset with deep structural vulnerabilities and precarious macroeconomic conditions.”

“Sudden macroeconomic stops and crises have led the country to request a record number of IMF programs, remaining under active IMF support for 40 out of its 68 years of history,” the Bank noted.

The Bank further cautioned, “Spending indiscipline poses a critical challenge to Ghana’s macro-fiscal stability… the absence of stringent expenditure controls frequently results in budget overruns and excessive borrowing, undermining efforts to maintain fiscal discipline and compromising long-term sustainability”.

The World Bank stressed that Temporary fixes will not suffice, “There is an urgent need to signal a clear break from the past and a commitment to change… Success will ultimately be measured by the ability of the government to regain the trust of its citizens.”

Asiedu Nketia holds slim lead over Bawumia in a potential 2028 presidential matchup – Poll

0

The Global InfoAnalytics’ new poll has revealed that Johnson Asiedu Nketia of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) holds a slim lead over Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a potential 2028 presidential matchup.

The poll shows Asiedu Nketia commands 50 per cent of voter support, while Dr Bawumia follows closely with 45 per cent, with the 5 per cent of respondents preferring another candidate.

According to Global InfoAnalytics, the narrow margins highlight the prospect of a fiercely contested race if the matchup materialises.

Also, a latest poll by the Global Info Analytics has revealed Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, has taken a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.

Subsequently, for the ruling NDC government,  Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, is still in the lead as the preferred candidate to succeed President John Mahama for the NDC.

There is still a long way to go before any potential presidential candidate match-up between Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Asideu Nketia can be made possible.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will have to win the NPP’s presidential primaries in January 2026, while on the other hand, the NDC have not even opened nominations for presidential candidates as they are still in the early days of President John Mahama’s second term in office.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told party members to kill the conversation surrounding who succeeds President John Mahama.

DStv prices remain unchanged, but subscribers to enjoy between 33% to 50% increased value

0

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, has announced that Ghanaian DStv subscribers will enjoy between 33% to 50% increased value.

However, prices of DStv subscriptions will remain unchanged.

“Under the arrangement, subscribers on the Paddy bouquet will be upgraded to Access, while subscribers on the Access bouquet will automatically be upgraded to Family, and those on the Family bouquet will move up to Compact.

Subscribers on Compact will be upgraded to Compact Plus, and those on Compact Plus will enjoy access to the Premium bouquet”.

Sam George added that the Premium bouquet will have a chance to win a fully paid trip to watch Premier league games.

The Communication minister added that the arrangement will run for the next three months, after which the committee will reconvene to review the packages.

Also, Sam George has announced plans to tackle DStv decoder piracy from Nigeria.

The minister added, “The committee considered the issue of cross-border piracy of DStv decoders from Nigeria into Ghana, which has for years deprived the state of tax revenue, transferred jobs from Ghana to Nigeria, denied unsuspecting customers good customer service, and is actively working towards the decline of Ghanaian local content creation space”.

“I will work with heads of the above agencies to establish the working group in due course to comprehensively tackle this issue of cross-border piracy,” Samuel George added.

This brings an end to the back and forth between Sam George and MultiChoice Ghana, operators of  DStv.

It will be recalled that the National Communications Authority (NCA) confirmed that MultiChoice Ghana has agreed to the directive from the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to establish a Stakeholder Committee that will evaluate DSTV pricing in Ghana.

The NCA statement read, “MultiChoice Ghana has agreed to the directive from the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to establish a Stakeholder Committee that will evaluate DSTV pricing in Ghana. The company has also committed to fully participating in this process.”

Sam George had earlier replied to MultiChoice Ghana, operators of  DStv, after they refuted claims that they had agreed to reduce their subscription prices.

According to Sam George, he has no intention to tolerate the disrespect from DStv to Ghanaians.

The sector minister revealed that the National Communication Authority (NCA) will proceed to shut down DSTV operations tomorrow, September 6, 2025.

In a statement released, MultiChoice Ghana stated, “We have noted the statement made by the Minister for Communications Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George.

We continue to engage with the Minister in a bid to find an amicable solution that is beneficial for all parties involved, but does not jeopardise the viability of the DSty service.

We will fully participate in the established Working Committee. However, we wish to clarify that MultiChoice Group has not agreed to a price reduction”.

In a post on X in reaction to MultiChoice’s statement, Sam George wrote, “Let me be clear, I have no intention to continue tolerating the disrespect to Ghanaians by DStv.

If MultiChoice is not interested, as they claim in their last statement, in discussing a reduction in prices as they had indicated to me, we would proceed to effect the shutdown tomorrow as indicated.

DStv indicated their willingness to engage the Ministry on its concerns on pricing and prayed us to stay our enforcement action. If they have changed their position, then we simply would enforce the regulatory action”.

He added, “No company is above the law. When MultiChoice is ready to discuss price reduction, they can come to the negotiation table. Until then, there is nothing for us to meet over. The @NCAGhana would carry out enforcement.

Ghana is open for businesses that respect our laws and institutions”.

This approach offers equal opportunity for all potential applicants in the entire country,

The Ghana Armed Forces counts on the cooperation of the general public in this endeavour”.

Also, the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, has announced the government’s plans to commence the recruitment of 12,000 personnel into the Ghana Armed Forces over the next three years, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s military and defence capabilities.

Brogya Genfi added that as part of the president’s dedication to fairness in the distribution of opportunities, the price of application forms has been slashed by 40% and the recruitment processes will be held at all regional levels.

Hon. Genfi stressed that recruitment into the GAF “is not for sale and will never be for sale,” warning against fraudulent syndicates exploiting the process.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the GAF recruitment news, saying, “Make eno come be say dem already pick dem in spiritual before it comes true”.

“You mean 12,000 NDC personnel just like NPP recruited their boys”, another stated.

A netizen added, “Thank God that we have got a powerful president in Ghana, president god bless you and they are followers long life and good strength”.

“A good way to go. But does the army have accommodation and facilities to take 12000 more soldiers? With the promise of building new accommodation and adjusting their salary to meet the cost of living, has anything being done? If you rush to recruit without facilities, big PROBLEM”, one more X user added.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has removed Charles Akwasi Aidoo, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, after a viral video showed him in a compromised position with a female student.

According to the GES, Mr Charles Akwasi Aidoo has been barred from entering the school premises while investigations are ongoing.

The GES also assured Ghanaians that due process will be followed and that any disciplinary action taken will be in line with the GES code of conduct.

The GES, in a statement signed by  Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, reads, “ The attention of the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) was drawn to a viral video circulating on social media, allegedly involving Mr Charles Akwasi Aidoo, the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNU ST Senior High School, in a compromised position with a female student.

Some Ghanaians have reacted to the GES statement, saying, “ Lol if we are to investigate our teachers and students’ relationship in our schools, then I think we are going to close our schools in Ghana”.

“Sometimes I don’t understand people o Wey horniness nkoaa”, another netizen wrote.

An X user stated, “So is he going to continue being a teacher or he should go home koraa?”.

One more netizen stated, “Eiiii hmmm, this is the kind of shame you bring upon yourself when you can’t control your dick as a man”

Abronye and Wontumi would have been suspended if the NPP had an effective National Council – Solomon Owusu

0

Senior Communicator for the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has said that if the NPP had an effective National Council, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, would be suspended.

Solomon Owusu on UTV stated, “If the NPP had an effective and efficient national council, Abronye and Chairman Wontumi would have been immediately suspended for their comments on the NPP album”.

However, the NPP only issued a statement distancing itself and reiterating its dedication to transparency, fairness, and integrity in all internal processes.

According to the NPP, no individual has control over the compilation of polling station albums, and we refute claims that the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries date favours any aspirant.

They further assured stakeholders that every decision is made in the supreme interest of the Party to ensure unity and victory in 2028.

However, the Kennedy Agyapong team have also issued a statement signed by Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson.

According to the Ken Team, it is not sufficient for the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) to merely distance itself from the unfortunate remarks made by the Ashanti and Bono Regional Chairmen.

They added that those comments must be openly condemned, and the individuals involved should be summoned before the Party’s disciplinary structures.

Agradaa is doing well in Nsawam Prison – Angel Asiamah

Angel Asiamah, husband of Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, commonly known as Nana Agradaa, has revealed that his wife is currently doing well in Nsawam Prison.

According to Angel Asiamah, he is pleased with how Agradaa looked and the way she was during their meeting.

He revealed Agradaa is both physically and mentally well while serving her sentence at Nsawam Prison.

Speaking to members of the Heaven Way Champions International Ministry on September 28, 2025, Angel Asiamah stated, “I went to see my wife, Mrs Asiamah. This week I went to her and she gave me a bible quote. Based on our chat and how she looked, things are going very well. Do you understand? When I say things are going well, I know what I am saying.”

He added, “When something is yours, it looks more beautiful to you than to everyone else. So, as Agradaa is my wife, if I say she’s doing well and living well, then that’s exactly how she is.”

Also, the Self-proclaimed sister of Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah has said the preacher’s spirit is great.

According to the self-proclaimed sister, Evangelist Mama Pat is coping well at the Nsawam Prison.

Speaking in a TikTok video shared by content creator, Agradaa’s ‘sister’ said the preacher remains strong despite the public perception.

She claimed, “We who are behind will think she is finding some struggles, but the ‘can-do spirit’ in my sister is great:,

“I can say it point-blank that she is okay…because if you don’t have strength, you can’t do it. Nothing is too hard for God to allow her to come back, and when she comes back, I believe she will take this as a big advice,” she added.

Agradaa is serving a 15-year jail term after she was sentenced for two counts of defrauding by false pretences.

She was sentenced by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah of the Circuit Court.

Agradaa was also fined GH¢300 for one count of charlatanic advertisement, with a 30-day custodial sentence in default of payment.

Her charges stem from a televised advertisement she aired in 2022.

In the ad, Agradaa claimed she has the power to double the money for her congregants at the Godsway International Heaven Church, misleading them into surrendering their money during an all-night church service at her Weija-based ministry in Accra.

According to the Judge, Evelyn Asamoah, Agradaa skilfully executed the offences and showed no remorse during proceedings.

Also, Agradaa is seeking a plea bargaining agreement with the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, in another court case.

She is seeking a plea bargain in a case involving her sharing non-consensual intimate images of preacher Osofo Appiah, also known as Osofo Biblical.

Osofo Appiah, the complainant, claimed that he was assaulted by individuals believed to be close associates of Agradaa during her time as a fetish priestess.

He further accuses her of unlawfully airing a private video of him engaging in a sexual act with a married woman. The footage was reportedly broadcast on her former television station, Thunder TV.

Agradaa is now seeking a plea bargaining agreement with AG Ayine in the case where she and two others have been charged for sharing nude images of a prophet.

The case has since been adjourned to 21st October, pending the outcome of negotiations.

Even Jesus Christ will not save us if we fail Ghanaians – Gbande to NDC members

0

Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told party members to kill the conversation surrounding who succeeds President John Mahama.

His comments follow the latest poll by Global InfoAnalytics, which has revealed that Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, is still in the lead as the preferred candidate to succeed President John Mahama for the NDC.

Meanwhile, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the Founder and Leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has dropped a fresh prophecy regarding the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The man of God revealed that the spirit backing the NDC has declined.

According to Rev Owusu Bempah, the NDC risks losing the 2028 general elections if the party does not take immediate steps to rekindle its spiritual backing.

Speaking to his congregation on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Rev Owusu Bempah stated, “I have seen in the spiritual realm that the NDC’s power has dropped. The spirit backing the NDC has declined, the force and power behind the party has diminished, and it is sinking”.

“If they want to rule for two consecutive terms, they must rekindle their power. Otherwise, after President John Mahama’s tenure, they will lose power in 2028”, the man of God warned.

Rev Owusu-Bempah further cautioned the NDC, “They think that any political party that comes to power must enjoy two consecutive terms. But if the NDC follows this pattern, they will be disappointed because I have seen that the power that brought them to power has dropped”.

“Let them mark today’s date and work towards it because if they fail one day, they will admit that I said it exactly as it is”, he added.

500 spontaneous abortions linked to galamsey-related placental contamination – Prof Sampene

0

Prof Dr Paul Poku Sampene Ossei, a Forensic Histopathologist and former Head of Pathology at KNUST and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has revealed  500 spontaneous abortions linked to galamsey-related placental contamination.

According to him, his ongoing research links at least 500 cases of spontaneous abortions in Ghana to high levels of heavy metals in the placenta caused by galamsey activities.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, September 27, Prof. Sampene stated, “I have about 500 cases where women go to the hospital and abort their babies because of the concentration of these heavy metals in their placenta”.

“The placentas are all contaminated, polluted with heavy metals,” he said.

He further urged both the NDC and NPP to come together and fight galamsey.

According to Prof Sampene, Ghana is heading toward a public health disaster if decisive action is not taken to tackle illegal mining.

Prof Sampene argued that political point-scoring and complacency will only deepen the crisis.

He added, “I would have wished that the two main political parties, NDC and NPP, come together and say enough is enough”.

“Whatever it is that we are doing, whether we are downplaying the whole thing or using it as political capital, it will not help anybody. We should be very serious about it and solve this problem,” he stressed.

Prof. Sampene further highlighted the extent to which illegal mining activities are affecting maternal and child health.

He explained, “The placentas are all contaminated, polluted with heavy metals. I have examined over 4,000 of them from different regions in Ghana, and both the maternal side and the foetal side show these metals.”

“Do we have what it takes to even solve the kidney diseases that are coming out now? Dialysis is very expensive, and nobody gets it for free. Children are also being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. These are the realities we have to face,” he cautioned.

He further revealed, “Most of them fear for their lives, but they tell me they are recording a lot of deformities in babies. This is very real.

If the child is at risk, let us see how best we can mitigate it so that the child will survive and live a quality life one day.

Otherwise, we will soon see people walking but with very high cognitive impairment. Mercury inhalation alone can damage the brain. We are seriously in trouble,” he warned.

In related galamsey news, three illegal miners have been reported dead after a galamsey pit collapse at Twifo Mampong in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region on Thursday.

Reports suggest the victims were part of a group of five who entered the pit secretly.

At around 1 am, the walls of the mine collapsed, trapping the galamseyers in the pit.

The Twifo Praso District Police Command, the DCE Isaac Tawson, NADMO, and the Ghana National Fire Service were able to retrieve three bodies from the pit after four hours of rescue work.

The fourth body is yet to be retrieved; however, the fifth person operating a pumping machine outside the pit escaped the pit collapse.

“Akufo-Addo’s appointees hated him and caused his downfall” – NPP Vice Chair

0

The 3rd Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu Osman, has claimed former President Akufo-Addo’s appointees hated him and caused his downfall.

According to Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Akufo-Addo’s lack of reshuffling in his government was not the problem.

Alhaji Masawudu Osman added that the God of Akufo-Addo will judge appointees who caused his downfall.

Speaking in an interview on Sompa TV, “I had the mentality that human beings are bad and there was no way reshuffling in Akufo-Addo’s government could have made any better impact”.

“For me, I see that many of the people Akufo-Addo appointed were his enemies; they hated him…and the God of Akufo-Addo will judge such people for causing his downfall.

I picked up intelligence that the CEO of the Minerals Commission was against us.

“Age is nothing in politics” – Kofi Bentil tackles Martin Kpebu

0

Kofi Bentil, a private legal practitioner, has tackled fellow lawyer Martin Kpebu over comments he made about Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful.

According to Martin Kpebu, Bawumia could only realistically stand a chance in the 2032 elections, but age would not be in his favour.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points show on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Martin Kpebu stated, “But I’m surprised that they say young people in the NPP prefer Bawumia. He doesn’t stand a chance in 2028… It’s 1.6 million votes. You can’t wipe out 1.6 million votes in a four-year cycle unless the NDC misrules to a level beyond even what Akufo-Addo did”.

“We are not going to sit down for that. What Akufo-Addo did was the last. There’s still a lot of anger in the system. You see why John Mahama’s approval rating is coming down. What Akufo-Addo did to us, we won’t sit down for that to happen again”.

However, reacting to remarks made by Lawyer Kpebu, Kofi Bentil detailed that age is nothing in politics.

Kofi Bentil cited the United States, which for years has been electing young leaders, but an old man, Donald Trump, in the last 100 years has been the most impactful president in the US, for right or wrong.

Also speaking on TV3’s Key Points, Kofi Bentil detailed, “Well, let me add this. You let my brother Martin go on and on. Look, on this matter, listen to me, he is so wrong, it is not salvageable. He can’t be helped. Listen, there was a trend in America, and America is a very good place to look at when it comes to democratic trends.

Bill Clinton was 45 or 47 when he became president, with Al Gore as vice president at 44. In the 200-year-old US history, Bill Clinton, who they didn’t think was going to be a good guy, is the guy who balanced the budget and stabilised the economy. He was an extremely successful president. Then came George Bush, followed by Barack Obama, also in his 40s. People thought America would always go for young leaders because they are cutting it, they know what’s up”.

He further added, “But guess what? Donald Trump, who is 79 today, almost a decade after the youths ruled; they go for a very old man, and I am telling you, in the last 100 years, Donald Trump has been the most impactful president in the US, for right or wrong. The point is this: age is just a number. Trump has wiped the floor with younger contenders. So, there is nothing that Martin is standing on to talk about age politics”.

Kofi Bentil continued, “Who are you? The point is this, when the chips fall, Ghanaians are going to determine based on who they believe can deliver”.

Mr Bentil further noted that the current generation of voters, the millennials and Gen Z, are a “no-nonsense” group.

According to him, they make decisions based on competence and results rather than age.

“That generation doesn’t revere anything. They don’t respect age or tradition. They look at what’s on the ground and say, What’s good for me? If someone is 100 years old and can deliver, they’ll vote for him. Age is nothing”, Kofi Bentil stated.

Meanwhile, a latest poll by the Global Info Analytics has revealed Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, has taken a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.

‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ project to cost Ghana GHS200m – Agric Minister

0

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has revealed that the John Mahama government’s flagship project, the ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti‘, will cost Ghana approximately GHS 200 million.

He detailed that three million birds will be procured under the government  ‘nkoko nkitinkiti’.

According to the Agric Minister, each constituency will receive 10,000 birds.

Speaking on Hot Issues with Keminni Amanor on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku stated, “ We are procuring 3 million birds; each constituency will receive 10,000. This will not cost Ghana beyond GHS 200 million”.

The Agric Minister revealed that an additional 80,000 birds will be supplied to 50 existing commercial-scale farmers, with medium-scale farmers receiving between 1,000 and 3,000 birds each.

Eric Opoku revealed that Ghana imports more than 80% of its poultry needs, which is unsustainable.

“Ghana consumes a lot of poultry compared to a country like Nigeria. With this initiative, we can change the narrative and stop excessive importation,” Eric Opoku stated.

Still on the project, President John Dramani Mahama has shared details of the Nkokɔ nkitinkiti’ project set to be launched next month.

According to John Mahama, young entrepreneurs and households will form the third group of the Nkokɔ nkitinkiti’ project with full support from the government to set up and run small-scale poultry farms.

Speaking during a visit to the National Service Authority Papao Farms in Accra on Friday, September 12, John Mahama explained, “Next month we’re going to launch the Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti project. It is going to have three layers. The first will be the large-scale producers. They are going to get about 4 million day-old chicks. The second will be the medium-scale producers. They’ll get about 3 million day-old chicks”.

“Every household, every young entrepreneur who signs up, you identify your site, your chicken house and then we’ll give you the day-old chicks, and we’ll also supply you with the feed. We’ll also vaccinate the day-old chicks for you,” he said.

“So yours is just to feed them and let them grow. And after the chickens are grown, we will come to your farm and buy all the chickens from you and give you your next set of day-old chicks,” Mahama assured.

President Mahama further revealed that a large-scale production will be established in multiple regions.

“And so we’re going to build processing plants in different parts of the country. And the first processing plant is going through procurement. And once the procurement authority approves it, we’ll start to construct it,” he said.

“Other parts of the country would also have processing plants. So when we buy the chicks off you, we’ll take them to the processing plants. We’ll process the chickens and package them nicely with Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti brand on them.”

“This will help us to cut our huge poultry import bill. We should be able to produce enough poultry to feed the whole of Ghana,” President Mahama emphasised.

President Mahama also announced plans that Ghana will be producing 100 per cent of the chicken Ghanaians consume in three years once the Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti project takes off.

According to John Mahama, the objective is to ensure that nearly all the chicken consumed in the country is produced in Ghana.

Mahama added, “Once the Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti project takes off, we believe that in three years, we’ll be producing almost 100% of the chicken that we eat in Ghana ourselves. So that we can stop bringing nkokɔfunu from outside. We don’t know how those chickens were raised”.

“In many of those countries, they use genetically modified chickens. In many of the countries, they inject the chickens with hormones,” he noted.

“We want fresh Ghanaian-grown chicken, so that our people can live a healthy life,” he emphasised.

“NDC will lose power in 2028 unless” – Rev Owusu Bempah drops prophecy

0

Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the Founder and Leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has dropped a fresh prophecy regarding the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Meanwhile, a new poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows President John Dramani Mahama’s goodwill is fading as his job approval rating drops.

The new poll shows the president’s approval rating dropping from 73% in July 2025 to 67% in September 2025.

The Global InfoAnalytics poll shows 22% of respondents now disapprove of the President’s performance, while 11% remain undecided.

However, President Mahama is still being backed by more than two-thirds of voters.

Despite the drop, the poll shows 2 in 3 voters approve of the performance of the president, including the majority of voters from the Ashanti region.

Mussa Dankwa highlighted that while fluctuations in approval ratings are normal, a sharp drop signals that a noteworthy problem may be driving public sentiment.

He said, “Normally, polls don’t drop that kind of massively. And also, if you look at the direction of the country, about 5% down from the highest of, I think, 71% or so, is quite down. And that’s also sharp.”

“If you look at those who say that the government is doing well in fighting corruption, that is down as well”.

Political observers have highlighted that maintaining Mahama’s approval will be a huge task, as their campaign promises will need to be a reality for many Ghanaians.

The Mahama government in recent weeks have been heavily criticised over the lacklustre fight against the illegal mining (galamsey) menace.

Additionally, the Ghana cedi was performing better, but is now likely to end 2025 stabilising between GH₵13.5 and GH₵14 per U.S. dollar, according to Renowned economist Professor Godfred Bokpin.

The cedi is currently trading as of Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at GH¢12.30 to the dollar.

Furthermore, key campaign messages like the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), which promised to jail and recover all stolen loot, have not borne any fruits yet and are facing doubts over selective justice.

Also, policy think tank IMANI Africa has also revealed that the Mahama-led NDC government’s goodwill is rapidly fading.

Despite the initial confidence surrounding President Mahama’s second tenure with the #ResettingGhana agenda, public confidence has weakened considerably.

Haruna Iddrisu maintains lead over Asiedu Nketia in NDC presidential race – Global Info

0

The latest poll by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, is still in the lead as the preferred candidate to succeed President John Mahama for the NDC.

Still on the NDC presidential race, Kojo Adu-Asare, a former member of parliament for the Adentan constituency, has declared his intention to contest the flagbearership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The former MP argued that even the late Akua Donkor and Kofi Akpaloo were candidates who were all his contemporaries.

Adu-Asare further stated that there is no storm within the NDC, adding that his declaration should not be misunderstood as fueling division.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Kojo Adu-Asare declared, “I want to use this opportunity and platform to announce for the first time that I will contest for the NDC flagbearer.

I, Kojo Adu-Asare. People want to bring my name, Benedict, back, but I refuse. I will contest. Am I not eligible?”, he quizzed.

Adu-Asare further contended, “Even Akua Donkor was a candidate, Kofi Akpaloo and the others. They are all my contemporaries.

“And the names coming up too—do I look deficient compared to some of them? Or is it about money? So I don’t have any problem. Let’s just watch the space”, he added.

Meanwhile, Julius Debrah and Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the two NDC bigwigs, have been accused by the netizens of only thinking of the next election rather than the 24-hour economy and the menace of galamsey.

Asiedu Nketia has been on a Thank You tour to acknowledge the contributions of party executives and grassroots for their role in the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on the other hand, has been organising walks and calling on Ghanaians to embrace walking as a simple yet powerful tool for healthy living, unity, and national progress.

Additionally, Victor Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, has told the bigwigs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stop the jostling to replace President John Mahama.

According to Victor Smith, it is early days yet to make a move to be the successor to President Mahama, as his government has not even been in office for a year.

He highlighted that such moves are premature and distracting the current Mahama government.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on September 23, Victor Smith explained, “It’s normal for them, maybe they are trying to prepare the ground for themselves, I don’t know. I personally think that talks about preparing to replace John Mahama is too early because we haven’t even done one year since coming to office”.

“They have taken off too soon. If too many people are entering the thing right now, then instead of us focusing on building this nation or pursuing the agenda of John Mahama, we will be disturbing people with that campaign,” he stressed.

Victor Smith further added, “For now, we want to impress the people of Ghana. With this current administration, we want to do wonders for Ghana and for the world to see us as such”.

“You have the full backing of Mahama to fight galamsey” – Gbande to NAIMOS

0

The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, told the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) Task Force that they have the full backing of President John Mahama.

Mustapha Gbande urged NAIMOS to enforce the law without fear or favour.

He ordered the task force to arrest anyone who mentions President John Mahama’s name to prevent their galamsey fight.

According to him, anybody who tries to destroy the galamsey fight in the name of a political colour must be arrested.

Also, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has ordered the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) Task Force to be firm, resolute and ruthless.

Meanwhile, Captain Smart, the Host of Onua Maakye on Onua TV, has called on President John Mahama to dismiss the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, over his failure to oversee the repeal of LI 2462.

According to Captain Smart, if the Attorney General stay in office, the Mahama-led government cannot fight galamsey.

He highlighted that the Attorney General’s shortcomings stem from his history with the controversial LI 2462, which permits mining in forest reserves, which was approved in the 8th Parliament during his tenure as Chairman of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee.

Captain Smart asserted that Dr Dominic Ayine might be excused for his role in the law’s approval because he was in opposition, but nothing prevents him from taking action now as Attorney General.

Speaking on Onua Maakye on Onua TV, Captain Smart stated, “If this Attorney General does not go, I swear to God, they can’t fight it. Whoever believes he is a man should come for a bet. Because from the very moment Dominic Ayine sat on the Subsidiary Legislation Committee and changed the wording to enable that law to come into fruition, President Akufo-Addo and Mr Ayisi, the then-Minerals Commission CEO, issued over two thousand small-scale mining licenses in a space of eight months”.

“You have been in government for nine months; why haven’t you repealed that law? When Parliament approved the E-Levy, Ato Forson went back to the same Parliament for its repeal, and he did the same for the Emission Levy,” he said.

“Justin Kodua has fallen for AI propaganda” – Wontumi hits back

0

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has hit back at the statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

According to Wontumi, his comment was rooted in historical reflection and aimed at contributing ideas to help the NPP recapture power in 2028.

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had distanced itself from comments made by Chairman Wontumi and Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC of the Bono Region.

Reacting to the statement, Chairman Wontumi has also issued a statement accusing Justin Kodua of misrepresentation and calling for greater respect.

Part of Wontumi’s statement read, “My position as Ashanti regional Chairman … places me closer to the people who tell me about the direction the party should be considering in recapturing power”.

“It is unfortunate Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong has fallen for propaganda seeking to misconstrue my statement,” he stated.

Wontumi further cautioned that in the age of artificial intelligence, his statement could be manipulated.

He added that Justin Kodua could have reached out to him before issuing the statement.

“In this era where saboteurs can easily use tools such as AI to destroy good people, Mr Kodua Frimpong could have simply reached out to me and gotten a full understanding … before issuing a statement that is far from the truth,” the statement concluded.

“Be firm, resolute, and ruthless” – Lands Minister to NAIMOS

0

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has ordered the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) Task Force to be firm, resolute and ruthless in galamsey fight.

Meanwhile, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a private legal practitioner and social activist, has said kingpins’ financing of galamsey activities remains untouched.

Ken Team demands sanctions against Wontumi, Abronye for anti-party conduct

0

The campaign team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has demanded sanctions against

Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC.

The NPP had earlier issued a statement distancing itself and reiterating its dedication to transparency, fairness, and integrity in all internal processes.

According to the NPP, no individual has control over the compilation of polling station albums, and we refute claims that the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries date favours any aspirant.

They further assured stakeholders that every decision is made in the supreme interest of the Party to ensure unity and victory in 2028.

The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to two disturbing videos circulating on social media in which Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and Mr Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), Regional Chairmen for the Ashanti and Bono Regions, respectively, are heard alleging manipulation of the NPP’s electoral register and process to favour a particular candidate ahead of the January 2026 Presidential Primaries.

These comments amount to gross misconduct and a grave violation of the Party’s constitution (Article 4 (7) ). They not only damage the reputation of the NPP as a democratic institution but also directly threaten the credibility and unity of the upcoming presidential primaries”.

It further added, “The two individuals involved are not ordinary party members. As members of both the National Executive Committee and the National Council (Article 10 (3) (4) of the NPP Constitution), two of the highest decision-making organs of the Party, their words carry weight. For this reason, it is wholly inadequate for the party leadership to simply dissociate itself from their reckless utterances. It has to be both condemned and sanctioned.

We therefore recommend that the NEC and the National Council of the NPP immediately summon the two Regional Chairmen before the appropriate disciplinary bodies and processes. Such decisive action is necessary to send a clear signal that no individual, regardless of rank or status, is above the rules of our Party.”

Ken’s team highlighted that the NPP’s failure to take decisive action will reinforce the widespread perceptions of bias.

“Failure to act swiftly and decisively will only reinforce the widespread perceptions of bias and lend credibility to the dangerous narrative that there is indeed a calculated orchestration to skew the process in favour of a particular candidate. The integrity of our primaries and the unity of our Party cannot be left at the mercy of indiscipline and reckless commentary.

Finally, we assure the rank and file of the NPP that Team Ken remains resolute in its commitment to a transparent, free, and fair electoral process. We have put in place a robust anti-rigging architecture to safeguard the sanctity and integrity of the upcoming primaries, and we call on all party faithful to remain vigilant”, the statement concluded.

NPP ‘runs’ from Wontumi and Abronye anti-party comments

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has run from comments made by Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) of the Ashanti Region, and Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC of the Bono Region.

Chairman Wontumi is reported to have said the NPP’s decision to hold the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was designed to favour a particular aspirant.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has charged his supporters in New York, USA.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, no man born of a woman will threaten me, and I chicken out.

The former Assin Central MP vowed never to bow to threats, declaring that no amount of pressure would force him to step aside.

Speaking at the Team Ken USA Annual Gala 2025 in New York, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “You are in America, and your own police in America are threatening you to support somebody? How? We cannot use intimidation to devolve our country. We have to be bold and speak the truth. What is wrong is wrong, what is right is right”.

“No man born of a woman will threaten Kennedy Agyapong, and I will chicken out. Be bold. We are also born of a woman. Let’s face the truth once and for all. We will resist every individual who will intimidate us,” he said to loud applause.

Kennedy Agyapong further called for fairness and unity within the NPP, adding that internal divisions could weaken the party.

He added, “We are calling for unity. We are asking for fairness. Justice is not in the interest of the strongest. We are Democrats. We have to tolerate each other. At the end of the day, we make the decisions ourselves. We will not allow ourselves to be cowards anymore”.

“What surprises me is that some of our own in America, because of the positions they have, they call the cops to threaten you. Wake up! We established NPP USA. Those in leadership positions, some have not even obtained visas to come here, yet they want to intimidate us. We will not allow it anymore”, he warned.

“Only a million devices can use 5G” – MTN Ghana CEO

0

Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, has revealed that only a million devices can use 5G in Ghana.

According to the MTN CEO, there is a long way ahead for Ghana to fully realise the transformative impact of the 5G network.

With Ghana’s projected population of over 34 million and a mobile penetration rate exceeding 120%, only one million 5G-ready devices represent a tiny fraction of the potential user base.

He also alluded to the regulatory and licensing steps required for commercial rollout.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Personality Profile, Stephen Blewett stated, “I think we’ve got a long way to go in 5G. I think it’s unfortunate that it’s taken a while for us to get there”.

“It’s important to understand that in terms of the number of devices, there are only a million devices that can use 5G as we currently sit.”

The MTN Ghana CEO added, “5G as a technology is important for the expansion of our economy, but it doesn’t mean 5G shouldn’t come.”

However, Sam George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, has jabbed the former Akufo-Addo government over the hyped of 5G services launched by Next-Gen.

According to Sam George, the Akufo-Addo government’s claim of 5G was just a smoke screen and gaslighting.

He boldly asserted that Ghana has no 5G service in the country.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on August 1, 2025, Sam George stated, “We have no 5G service in the country. The previous government’s claim of 5G was just a smoke screen and gaslighting”.

“Let’s just say it was a smokescreen and voicemail. There was actually no fact. Even that day at the centre where they launched, there was no 5G network, and there’s no 5G anywhere. If there were 5G, I haven’t directed the NCA or NGIC to turn off any 5G site; we would have seen it.”

Sam George further revealed that Next-Gen Infrastructure Company (NGIC) has received all the necessary approvals, but he declined their request for an additional licence for ISPs.

He noted, “NGIC have received all the necessary approvals; in fact, last two weeks, I gave the final connecting entity license approval for MNOs. They are asking for an additional licence for ISPs, which I have declined.”

“You have a license and have had it for almost three years. At the very least, I have given you the authority and regulatory approval to connect with MNOs. Focus on that and roll out with MNOs.”

He indicated, “Failure by NGIC to roll out full commercial activity by the end of quarter four this year will lead to me terminating the terms of that contract, taking away the exclusivity clause and opening up for fresh negotiations.”

It will be recalled that former Communications and Digitalisation minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful fired shots at Ghanaians, questioning the 5G service availability on their phones.

Speaking to the media before President Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nation’s Address (SONA), Ursula stated, “People didn’t listen when we were launching it, it is a wholesale infrastructure, we have built it, it is now up to the telecom companies to buy capacity from it and deliver it on to their subscribers.

“I have done my part; the rest of it is left with the TELCOs and NGIs, I know I have delivered on my mandate”, she boldly added.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful advised Ghanaian mobile network users to hold their service providers accountable for failing to launch the 5G network by 31 December this year.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has given a detailed breakdown of the government’s illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey fight, after eight months in office.

According to the Lands Minister, 1400 galamseyers have been arrested, 440 excavators and over 800 changfans have also been seized in 8 months of the NDC government.

He reaffirmed the Mahama government’s commitment to protecting the environment and also regulating opportunities in the mining sector.

Speaking on GTV on Wednesday, September 24, the Lands Minister detailed, “We have seized 440 excavators and more than 800 changfans. We have mobilised Blue Water Guards in key regions, and they are making a difference”.

“We are also now providing critical alternatives, and we are saying that if you want to do mining, we are going to give you the training and build your capacity to work with large-scale mining companies,” he explained.

“Be bold, speak the truth, no intimidation can silence us” – Ken Agyapong

The NPP will be holding their internal elections on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Sam George to brief Ghanaians on DStv brouhaha tomorrow

0

The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Sam George, has announced he will brief Ghanaians on the outcome of the stakeholder committee tasked with assessing DStv pricing.

In a post shared on X, Sam George wrote, “Tomorrow, at 3 pm, we would engage the Nation on the outcome of the work of the stakeholder committee that has been chaired by myself”.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) had earlier revealed that the stakeholder committee tasked with assessing DStv pricing in Ghana will present its report on September 29, 2025.

On September 23, the NCA, in a statement, revealed the committee had made significant progress but requested an additional week.

According to the NCA, Sam George, the sector minister, has granted a week’s extension to the committee.

Meanwhile, A survey conducted by Ipsos, a global leader in market research, has revealed that about 97% of DStv subscribers in Ghana back the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George’s demands for DStv price reduction.

According to the Survey, the poll shows that about 75% of the subscribers view the charges for DStv services as exorbitant.

Parts of a summary of the report read, “Most customers (75%) perceive DStv fees as high or very high, while only a quarter see them as medium to low. Though DStv is usually perceived as a premium service in the market, this finding suggests that pricing could nevertheless become a major concern for customers if other measures are not taken by the service provider to address the issue,”

“Customer opinions on DStv/Multichoice value are polarized — while 50% see good value in the service, 44% disagree. This split perception indicates a potential gap in service delivery or misalignment between customer expectations and the service provided. Targeted communication or service enhancements might address this,” it added.

It also added, “Despite high costs, 59% of customers intend to continue their subscriptions. While loyalty remains strong, it could be challenged by higher prices and concerns over value for money in service provision”.

The survey reports come at a time when Ghana’s Communication Minister has waged a war on Multichoice operators of DStv.

“Our party cannot be in power, and we will still be suffering” – NDC MP cries out

0

Hon Nikyema Billa Alamzy, the Member of Parliament for Chiana Paga, has cried out that his own party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cannot be in power and yet his constituency is still suffering.

According to the Chiana Paga MP, his constituency has been left without meaningful opportunities.

Nikyema Billa Alamzy further highlighted that he does not understand why the party’s Chairman will go on a Thank You tour.

He emphasised that the people who voted massively for the NDC are not benefiting from the party.

Speaking in an interview on Joy NEWS, Nikyema Billa Alamzy stated, “Our party cannot be in power, and we will still be suffering. In my constituency, what are they coming there to thank us for? You’ve not given us an appointment, and youth employment is zero. What are you coming to thank us for?

“In my constituency, Chana Paga constituency, what are they coming there to thank us for?

“Come and let’s talk and know that this is what we need, this is what we are lacking. Our government cannot be in power and we will still be suffering,” he reiterated.

Meanwhile, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has finally disclosed why he is on a “Thank You Tour”.

The NDC Chairman revealed that his Thank You tour is to appreciate party executives and grassroots organisers for their contributions to the party’s 2024 Election victory.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC campaign was in three folds, one led by President John Dramani Mahama, another by the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the third by the National Chairman.

Asiedu Nketiah highlighted that while President Mahama focused on the presidential race, he was tasked with steering the parliamentary campaign.

Speaking to party executives and members in the Akuapem North Constituency on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Asiedu Nketia stated, “Indeed, it is true that President Mahama is already thanking Ghanaians in regional capitals.  When I was coming, people were saying the president had already thanked us, so what am I coming to do? I told them, during the campaign, the President took his part, and I also took my party, so the places I went to campaign, I informed them after the election, and NDC won, I would come back to thank them. So that is why I am here today”.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s three-day tour, scheduled for September 17 to 19, 2025, will cover 16 constituencies in the Eastern Region.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned the former Kumbungu MP, Ras Mubarak, and Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe, following their social media comments.

Recall,  Ras Mubarak bluntly told the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, not to hide behind his Thank you tour” to advance your premature presidential ambitions.

The former lawmaker highlighted that Asiedu Nketia is setting a dangerous precedent with his Thank You Tour across the country.

According to Ras Mubarak, never in the NDC’s history has a National Chairman after an election victory decided he is going on a “Thank You Tour”.

He emphasised that, thank you, tours are led by Presidential or Parliamentary candidates.

Reacting to the brouhaha on Accra-based Asempa FM, Mustapha Gbande stated, “The needless distraction and the conversation around the Chief of Staff is doing this, and this one is doing that. There is no trouble in the NDC. Why are we inviting trouble? The two NDC Ras Mubarak and the MP, the next time they do that, we are going to invite them and reprimand them”.

He added, “We don’t run our party on social media. The MP who responded to Ras Mubarak does not understand communications better than the national chairman. This is what brings distraction. The General Secretary is alive and well; he is in charge of this party.

He has deputies, myself, Barbara, and we are in charge of this party, and we have a national organiser. If something is wrong, we will act upon it. It is not for you to be on social media without talking to your party leadership; you are determining what is legal and illegal. Is he a party officer? We don’t want the party to be rocked with needless destruction”.

Enough is enough, come together and fight galamsey – NDC and NPP told

0

Prof Dr Paul Poku Sampene Ossei, a forensic Histopathologist and former Head of Pathology at KNUST and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has urged the NDC and NPP to come together and fight galamsey.

According to Prof Sampene, Ghana is heading toward a public health disaster if decisive action is not taken to tackle illegal mining.

Prof Sampene argued that political point-scoring and complacency will only deepen the crisis.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, September 27, Prof. Dr Paul Poku Sampene Ossei stated, “I would have wished that the two main political parties, NDC and NPP, come together and say enough is enough”.

“Wake up, don’t marry by heart and give birth by heart” – Sheikh advises Muslims

0

Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam, the National Imam of Ahlu-Sunnah Wal-Jamaah (ASWAJ), has advised Ghanaian Muslims against marrying by heart and giving birth by heart.

The respected cleric and author of “Investment In Islam and Spending In Allah’s Way”  asserted that the Qur’an says Muslims can marry two, three, or four, but only if one is capable.

He emphasised that instead of bringing forth children one cannot look after, they grow up with no knowledge, no skills, and no schooling, and they become criminals.

According to Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam, what Muslims are seeing in Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger in the name of Islam is not Islam, as they are criminals with no faith.

The Muslim cleric made this known on Friday when he led the dedication of a newly constructed mosque and resource centre at Abeka, Accra, by the Kuwaiti humanitarian organisation, DirectAid, at a cost of GH¢3 million.

Addressing Muslims, Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam stated, “We Muslims must wake up. Don’t marry by heart and give birth by heart”.

He urged Muslims to marry one and give birth to at most three children so they can take care of them.

The Muslim cleric cited that irresponsible marriages and unrestricted childbirth were contributing to rising crime and insecurity across West Africa.

Also, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has advised young men to avoid lavish weddings.

Duncan-Williams emphasised that men who borrow money to organise lavish weddings often face frustrations in their home due to the intense pressure from creditors.

According to Duncan-William, individuals must prioritise their lives and avoid spending all their earnings on weddings and end up in debt.

Preaching to his congregation, Duncan-Williams stated, “Most of the foolish things we do are to use our money for other things. For weddings, we go and buy all these white dresses and suits. We spend all the money on weddings.”

“So people have come, you’ve dressed nicely, but you are in debt, and they are calling for their money. Your phone is ringing, and somebody says, the money you collected, when can I have my money? And you can’t tell the lady that you borrowed some money to do shows”, he stressed.

He further recounted his own personal experience, adding that he got married at the 21 or 22.

Duncan-William revealed he got married because he felt pressured to do so.

He added, “You could tell that this guy is confused. I was like a sheep carried to the slaughter. I had no idea of what I was doing. I had no idea of what marriage was – I was just told I should marry, so me too, I married”.

“So let me say to some of you, when you get it all right, don’t do a wedding”, he counselled.

“If I were you, I would take that money that they are going to use for the wedding to do other things for the marriage itself. Just come to the office, sign the document, we bless you, you kiss one another, go home”, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams added.

“We need to kill that small elephant called protocol” – Former GES Boss on SHS placement chaos

0

Charles Aheto-Tsegah, a former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has said the persistent national crisis surrounding the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is due to a small elephant called protocol.

According to Charles Aheto-Tsegah, protocols have deeply undermined the supposedly merit-based electronic placement system.

The former GES boss emphasised that the system’s architects failed to account for deeply fixed patronage within the education system.

Charles Aheto-Tsegah noted that the protocols have increased in scope and impact.

He cited that previous years’ SHS data placement shows discrepancies between the number of available slots and the final admitted students.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Mr Aheto-Tsegah stated, “The protocol has actually been expanding, and that is what we have to deal with. If we want to be very fair and equitable, we need to kill that small elephant in the room called protocol”.

“We didn’t even know how to manage protocol in the system, even though we knew that it was an ever-present issue in that process, so we could manage it, and we have lived with that system right from the beginning,” he stated.

The former GES boss noted that due to the foundational flaw, the CSSPS have been dead on arrival.

Also, Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, has said the confusion over the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is because parents want top schools for their children.

The Minister of Education stated, “Let me assure you that placement of persons who pass in the BECE exams is ongoing. The Director General sitting here have no access, I have no access, the Deputy Minister have no access. No Deputy Director General has access in order to guarantee the meritorious application of it”.

He detailed, “But sometimes there are other persons who may want to abuse it, and we’ll deal with them as and when we find culprits. For instance, I would not accept a student with an aggregate of 37 going into a Category A school. What would be your justification for that if you hear that a student with an aggregate of 35 or 37 is placed in a Category A school? Does he belong there meritoriously? That is questionable”.

No evidence found in alleged GH₵15,000 Aburi Girls’ SHS placement claims – Education Ministry

0

Hashmin Mohammed, the media Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, has said that the ministry found no evidence to support claims of bribery in the Senior High School (SHS) placements.

One Gertrude Adzo Borklo, in a post on social media, claimed that admission into Aburi Girls’ could be bought with GH¢15,000.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, noted the severity of such an allegation.

Part of the statement read, “This feeds into a conspiratorial narrative designed to create the false impression that the BECE Computerised School Placement System is for sale. The Ministry views this allegation with the utmost seriousness and has initiated an immediate investigation. We are committed to ensuring that the integrity of the school placement process remains intact.”

According to Apaak, efforts to contact the author of the post have so far been unsuccessful, as the account was deactivated shortly after publication.

The statement revealed the ministry is working with the National Security Secretariat, the Cyber Security Authority, and other relevant agencies to identify and track down persons.

The statement added, “We wish to state categorically that the BECE Computerised School Placement System is entirely free of charge. At no point is payment required to access this service.

The statement concluded, “The integrity and transparency of Ghana’s school placement system must be safeguarded. We urge the public to help expose unscrupulous people who seek to benefit unduly from this important national exercise.”

Reacting to the claims on Channel One TV on Saturday, September 27, 2024, Mr Mohammed said investigations conducted by the ministry, with the national security agencies, did not establish any case of bribery.

Hashmin Mohammed revealed, “I think prior to the placement itself, we ran a media campaign to educate the public that the BECE placement is free of charge. You need not pay any money to any person, whether a Ministry of Education official or a third party, and so far, issues that have emerged with regard to bribery, we have investigated all of them and we have realised that there is no evidence”.

“I think some people are trying very hard to formulate a conspiratorial narrative to make it look like the BECE placement system is for sale,” he added.

Hashmin Mohammed added, “We are still calling on the general public, if you have any evidence that you have paid money to any official at the Ministry of Education or a third party, bring it forward”.

“ORAL was overhyped and it is under-delivering” – Kofi Bentil

0

Kofi Bentil, a private legal practitioner, has said that the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) was overhyped and it is under-delivering.

Also, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, a member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, has said the NDC’s “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL) is now Operation Release All Looters and arrest people against the NDC.

Speaking during a demonstration organised by the NPP youth wing on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the Weija MP stated, “The real ORAL, now for me, means that Operation Release All Looters and then arrest people who are against our party. You cannot talk- there’s so much that they said during their time as a form of hate speech,” he said.

He added that “Now, when you post something, the president calls himself the IP man and he’s able to trace whoever and wherever you are and he gets people to be picked up. It’s just so unbearable.”

“You have to be focused as a president and let the institutions work for tomorrow’s sake because nobody is going to be president forever,” he added.

“Nobody is saying that don’t go after people you think have committed crimes, but use the proper procedure, and it is high time we [understood] that we have no Ghana anywhere apart from this Ghana.

“So, if you have ever studied Karl Marx, there’s what we call economic determinism and historical materialism. People will, at a stage, not be able to stand whatever you are doing, and they will revolt.

And if you are not careful, you will be surprised at the kind of people who will join that kind of revolt. Let us stop weaponising state institutions, including even the judiciary. I mean, what’s this?” he emphasised.

However, President John Dramani Mahama has assured that no member of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will interfere in the prosecution of suspects or investigation of ORAL cases.

John Mahama’s assurance comes on the back of a claim by the party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, that some compatriots are “cutting deals” with people under prosecution.

According to John Mahama, all Operation Recover All Loots cases will be investigated thoroughly.

Speaking at his media encounter in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, John Mahama explained, “ If anybody goes lobbying people to interfere, they’re throwing away their resources. All ORAL cases will be investigated and come to their logical end.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Srem Sai, has reassured Ghanaians that the John Mahama-led government is working to pursue cases under the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.
