Brogya Genfi, the Deputy Minister of Defence, has ordered all screening personnel who were stationed at the El-Wak sports stadium during the military recruitment exercise to step aside.
According to an X post shared by MP Edem Agbana, the military personnel have been ordered to step aside for an investigation into the stampede by the Deputy Minister of Defence.
In a post shared on X by Edem Agbana on Thursday, November 13, 2025, it stated, “Deputy Defence Minister, Brogya Genfi, has stated that all personnel responsible for the screening process during the military recruitment have been asked to step aside while official investigations into the stampede are conducted”.
However, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the suspension of its military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The exercise has been suspended until further notice.
According to GAF, the decision was taken to ensure the safety and proper coordination of the recruitment process.
President Mahama also paid a visit to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra following the tragic stampede on Wednesday, November 12.
Mahama was accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Cassiel Ato Forson, Felix Kwakye and other government officials.
His visit to the 37 Military Hospital was to obtain further information regarding the tragic stampede.
Meanwhile, John Dramani Mahama, speaking at the gathering at the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Initiative, has said all six victims in the GAF recruitment tragedy were female.
President Mahama stated, “a heartbreaking loss for the entire nation. The tragic news is that I have been informed by the military that six young women, who simply sought an opportunity to serve their nation, lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident. We are praying for the 12 others who remain in critical condition”.
Also, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed six people have died in the ongoing military recruitment at the El-Wak Stadium.
Reports suggest the chaos occurred around 6:20 a.m. when applicants breached security protocols.
According to GAF, 28 people were taken to the 37 Military Hospital.
They further revealed that six people have died, with five in the ICU and another 12 in critical condition.
Also, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has donated GH¢100,000 to support the medical treatment of victims injured in the El-Wak Sports Stadium stampede.
Speaker Bagbin, accompanied by the leadership of Parliament, visited the victims at the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday.
He commiserates with the injured and their families.
