Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and NPP presidential aspirant, has told NPP Damongo delegates not to vote for him because he is from the north.
According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP Damongo delegates should vote for him based on his track record, competence, integrity and vision.
Speaking on Spear FM in Damongo, Dr Bawumia urged the north and NPP delegates to vote based on his leadership qualities.
The former vice president stated, “I’m asking for the support of our NPP delegates. I’m campaigning, that’s why I’m in the region. I’m asking for their support on January 31st, that they should look at voting for me on the basis, not that because I’m from the north; we don’t vote on that.”
“They should vote for me on the basis of my track record, of my competence, of my integrity and of the vision that I have for the country and of the experience.”
He added, “Under Akufo-Addo, I’ve been adjudged by many people to be the most effective Vice President in the history of this country – a big acknowledgement of the track record of what I have done.”
“And I want the delegates to help me to be one of the most effective Presidents in the history of the country, so I need their support, and I’m asking for their support on January 31.”
Dr Bawumia further added that he believes the NPP will return to power after the 2028 election.
“I believe that this party, the NPP, under my leadership, will come back to power after the 2028 election. We are going to work hard for them and work hard for the people of Ghana. I want them to have their trust in me, and I will deliver victory in 2028, by the grace of God”, he added.
Also, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the Member of Parliament for Karaga and former Minister of Finance, has replied to critics accusing Northerners of blindly following Dr Bawumia.
The MP for Karaga confidently asserted that Dr Bawumia’s approval in the North is not based on regional or ethnic considerations.
According to Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Northerners are not blindly following Dr Bawumia but are backing him based on competence and character, not hometown ties.
He highlighted that they see Dr Bawumia as a leader with the experience, integrity, and vision to govern Ghana.
Speaking during campaign activities of Dr Bawumia in Yagaba-Kubori , Dr Amin Adam said, “Northerners have been told that we are blindly following Dr Bawumia. I want them to know that we are not blind—we can see clearly”.
“When we look at Dr Bawumia, we see a competent man, a humble man, and a truthful man. We see a President,” he stated.
