The killing of a drug cartel leader, Nemesio Oseguera, widely known as “El Mencho,” has sparked fears ahead of the 2026 World Cup being hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Already, there have been some fears with the US as a host city for the World Cup following recent security issues.

The killing of El Mencho has now also sparked fears among fans and officials with just a few months to the 2026 World Cup.

Violence has erupted in Guadalajara, a city in the Western Mexico, following a military operation in which cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera, widely known as El Mencho, was killed.

Following the operation, cartel members have stormed the city, set vehicles ablaze, and blocked highways across nearly a dozen Mexican states.

The violence has led to Liga MX officials postponing two top-flight fixtures from the schedule: the men’s game between Querétaro and Juárez FC, and Chivas vs América in the women’s division.

Guadalajara, the city which has now erupted in violence are set to host nations like South Korea, Spain, Uruguay, and Colombia during the 2026 World Cup.

Some X user reacting to the violence wrote, “How on earth did FIFA agree to host a World Cup in Mexico? How much was paid to gamble with the lives of millions?”

“Praying for all the innocent, hardworking people in Mexico. This is why border security is important. We must destroy the cartels — they are terrorist organizations”, an X user added.

One more netizen added, “People across the world are in fear for their lives after social media users mentioned that the FIFA World Cup is taking place in Mexico in 4 months and the nation is currently being dominated by Cartel opposition”.

“Here are Claudia Sheinbaum’s own words, just a few days ago, showing that it was the President @realDonaldTrump who decided to go after the cartels. Look at how Mexico’s president defends the human rights of drug traffickers. Judge for yourself”, a netizen added.

One more X user added, “Reportedly, aided by U.S. intelligence, Mexico today killed notorious drug lord El Mencho. President Trump must now help Mexico deal with the violence his death has unleashed. It could become an existential crisis for Mexico. Many American tourists and locals are already caught up in the spreading violence. This is the war we should be fighting—alongside Mexico against the drug cartels, not against Iran, nobody gives a shit about Iran”.

Meanwhile, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the Founder and Leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, had earlier warned that the World Cup in America may not be postponed.

Nigel Gaisie added, “I saw in America a lot of jets—a lot of jets in the space of America. If we don’t pray, the World Cup may not come on, or maybe we may postpone it, or there will be a problem with the American one.

“The LORD carried my spirit, and I saw planes in the space of America. I will pray, and we will avert it because prayer can avert the black stars of Ghana,” he said.
