Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority Leader in Parliament, has begged all NPP members to put their anger against the former Akufo-Addo government aside and work together to win power in 2028.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the NPP can take inspiration from the NDC, as no one thought President Mahama could ever become president again, adding that political comebacks are possible when the party members are united.
Afenyo-Markin noted that when the NDC was in disarray, it took Asiedu Nketiah, the Ahwois and others to put the NDC together, so there is hope for the NPP.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM on November 28, 2025, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Whoever thought John Mahama could be president again? Let us face the facts, it took Asiedu Nketiah to charge through the storm after Mahama lost by over one million votes in the 2016 elections. When the NDC was in disarray, when they had nobody, it took Asiedu Nketiah to put the party together”.
“NPP, don’t be sad. There is hope. Let us work together, and we can take inspiration from the NDC and win power”.
He added, “Look, I am pleading with every NPP member: even if the government was not fair to you, put all your anger somewhere and let us work together to win”.
“It took Asiedu Nketiah, the Ahwois and others to put the NDC together. So, NPP, there is hope.”
Also, Afenyo-Markin has told his fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) members that when they are united, no evil can touch them.
Afenyo-Markin made these remarks when he recounted how Nana B came to his home around 4 a.m. to urge him to go and represent Abronye in court.
Speaking on Movement TV, Afenyo-Markin stated, “At dawn, I was scrolling through social media, and around 4 am, Nana B called me. When I picked he told me he was at my gate. When he came inside, he told me they had taken Abronye to court”.
He further revealed that when they arrived, the judge was visibly shaken by the presence of numerous high-profile NPP figures who had turned up to support Abronye.
Afenyo-Markin further emphasised that the turnout was a clear demonstration of the strength of unity within the party, noting that if the NPP remains united, nothing can bring them down.
He added, “After a few. Days of public outcry, the Attorney General himself went for variation, so have you seen the power in unity? It was a wake-up call that when we are united, as a party, no evil can touch any of us.
Meanwhile, Francis Asenso Boakye, the Member of Parliament for Bantama and the former Roads and Highways Minister, has alleged that some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters sponsored John Mahama to defeat Dr Bawumia in the 2024 election.
According to Francis Asenso‑Boakye, the NPP supporters, unhappy with Dr Bawumia leading the party as a flagbearer in the 2024 elections, sponsored John Mahama ahead of the December 2024 polls.
