Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told party members to kill the conversation surrounding who succeeds President John Mahama.

According to Mustapha Gbande, he is determined that President Mahama must succeed.

He emphasised that if the National Democratic Congress fail Ghanaians, they can bring Jesus Christ as a presidential candidate, they will still go to the opposition.

Speaking on JoyNews’ News Desk, Gbande stated, “I am determined that President Mahama must succeed, and that is my focus in the meantime,” he stated.

“That is also the focus of the larger and majority of individuals in our party. We cannot fail the masses, we cannot fail you, we cannot fail the people of Ghana. So let us kill this conversation for now. That discussion is one for when the time is right.”

“We just came to power, and we are yet to give a full account of our one-year term,” Gbande said.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary added, “In the proper context of political transitions, there has never been a time when any government has, within nine months, been met with the kind of expectations we now face”.

“Our trump card will be our performance. If we fail, we can go and bring Jesus Christ to come and lead the party; we will still go to the opposition,” he warned.

Gbande also took a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying, “The only luck we have is that the alternative is not something anyone would want to venture into. Currently, they are enemies of the state and very disorganised”.

“We are happy that these polls are coming, no two ways about it, but I am saying that this is not the time to engage in that conversation”, he added.

His comments follow the latest poll by Global InfoAnalytics, which has revealed that Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, is still in the lead as the preferred candidate to succeed President John Mahama for the NDC.

The Global InfoAnalytics poll shows Haruna Iddrisu in a lead with 29.8 per cent, while NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia secured 24.1%, and Finance Minister Ato Forson, who garnered 18.4% support.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah is also in fourth with 10.3%, while Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa came fifth with 8.1%.

Other contenders Eric Opoku recorded 2.5%, Prof. Joshua Alabi 2.2%, and Armah Kofi-Buah 2.0%.

Kwame Awuah Darko (1.6%), Spio Garbrah (1.1%), and Okoe Vanderpuye (0.1%)  were at the bottom of the poll as the least preferred candidates to succeed John Mahama.

Meanwhile, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the Founder and Leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has dropped a fresh prophecy regarding the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The man of God revealed that the spirit backing the NDC has declined.

According to Rev Owusu Bempah, the NDC risks losing the 2028 general elections if the party does not take immediate steps to rekindle its spiritual backing.

Speaking to his congregation on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Rev Owusu Bempah stated, “I have seen in the spiritual realm that the NDC’s power has dropped. The spirit backing the NDC has declined, the force and power behind the party has diminished, and it is sinking”.

“If they want to rule for two consecutive terms, they must rekindle their power. Otherwise, after President John Mahama’s tenure, they will lose power in 2028”, the man of God warned.

Rev Owusu-Bempah further cautioned the NDC, “They think that any political party that comes to power must enjoy two consecutive terms. But if the NDC follows this pattern, they will be disappointed because I have seen that the power that brought them to power has dropped”.

“Let them mark today’s date and work towards it because if they fail one day, they will admit that I said it exactly as it is”, he added.
