The Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has announced that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) plans to venture into block making, kenkey production, poultry and crop farming.

According to the Chief of the Defence Staff, the initiative is part of efforts to generate internal funds to support GAF’s logistics and welfare needs.

The Chief of the Defence Staff highlighted that the move reflects a calculated shift towards self-reliance amid GAF’s growing operational and logistical demands.

Lieutenant General Agyapong further added that GAF has begun collaborating with partners to manage several commercial activities internally, including food production and construction-related ventures.

The Chief of the Defence Staff detailed that the income from the initiatives would be reinvested into the military to address its logistical challenges and improve troop welfare.

Speaking during the 2025 General Headquarters End-of-Year West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) held at Burma Camp on Friday, January 23, Lieutenant General William Agyapong stated, “But your Excellency, ladies and gentlemen, we are not sitting aloof. On our own, as an Armed Force, we are leveraging on our goodwill, expertise, and strategic relationships to do more for ourselves”.

“In this regard, we are in collaboration with partners and are now handling our travel and tour requirements. We are arranging same in the area of bakery, block making, kenkey production, poultry and crop farming”.

“All these will accrue some resources for the system to use to support our logistics challenges,” the Chief of the Defence Staff added.

In related news, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly dismissed false reports that were circulated in the media, which alleged that about 60 per cent of applicants who went through medical screening tested positive for HIV.

According to  Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Acting Director General of Public Relations, the reports are fake news and urged the public to ignore the reports.

In a press release issued by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, she revealed that the medical screening process for applicants is still ongoing, and no results have been released.

Parts of the Ghana Armed Forces statement read, “As such, any figures or conclusions being attributed to the process are false and misleading.”

“The medical process is ongoing, and no results have been declared as yet,” the statement added.

GAF statement further warned media practitioners, specifically content creators, bloggers and vloggers, to exercise restraint and professionalism in their work.

They further indicated that steps are being taken to identify and trace the originators of the report.

The statement added, “The GAF urged media actors to verify information from credible and official sources before publishing, stressing the importance of accuracy and responsible journalism, especially on sensitive national matters.

“The Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to transparency and assured the public that official information would be communicated through the appropriate channels when the medical screening process is duly completed”.
