The Ghana AIDS Commission has said some Ghanaian men are reportedly refusing to use condoms, claiming the sizes available on the market are too small for them.
According to the Commission, low condom use could undermine efforts to reduce HIV infections and is urging stronger public education and improved access to suitable options.
The Ghana AIDS Commission is quoted by JoyPrime to have said, “Some Ghanaian men avoiding condoms because sizes in the system are too small for them”.
Some netizens reacting to the news stated, “So what are they trying to say??”.
A netizen added, “It’s very true… personally, the available sizes are small for me”.
“Ghana Health Service and Ghana AIDS Commission should find ways to contact all the women that the Russian mf got in contact with. They must treat it as a public health emergency, an X user stated.
In related news, the Ghana AIDS Commission is set to distribute condoms nationwide today, February 13, 2026.
The move is part of Ghana’s fight against HIV, which is receiving fresh attention this Valentine’s season.
Reports suggest the Ghana AIDS Commission is preparing to distribute thousands of condoms and HIV test kits across the country.
The Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr Prosper Akanbong, stated that this year would be the first time Ghana formally observes World Condom Day on 13th of February.
Speaking in an interview, Dr Prosper Akanbong stated, “13th of February has always been World Condom Day. And in fact, for the first time, Ghana will be observing it.”
“Ghana AIDS Commission is leading this with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation who are now entering Ghana for the first time. So, we’ll launch it on the 13th of February,” he stated.
He added, “This is where we bring the awareness to the use of condoms. It’s part of the strategy to make sure people get to know that, look, there’s International Condom Day. Let’s use condoms, and we can get the public awareness about condoms”.
The Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, when asked about concerns that some men avoid condoms due to complaints about size and comfort, he acknowledged such perceptions but however stressed on protection.
“There will be various types that will be there. Flavoured, non-flavoured and all those kinds of condoms. We get to know that there were some times when there were condoms in the system. They said they were smaller for Ghanaian men.”
The distribution forms part of broader efforts to prevent the transmission and spread of HIV/AIDS, particularly during festive periods when the risk of unsafe sex may increase. HIV test kits are also being dispatched nationwide to encourage people to know their status.
