A Ghanaian graduate student, identified as Samuel, has reportedly died in a car crash south of Centerville, South Dakota.

According to reports, Samuel was pursuing a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature Studies at the University of South Dakota.

Reports suggest the tragic accident occurred on Friday, January 16, when he was travelling southbound in a Subaru sedan on Highway 19.

The news shared by the social media account EBHUB read, “A Ghanaian graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature Studies at the University of South Dakota, US has reportedly died in a car crash south of Centerville, South Dakota.

The deceased, identified as Samuel, was travelling southbound in a Subaru sedan on Highway 19 on Friday, January 16, when he entered an intersection and was struck by a Ram pickup truck”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic news stated, “Wow… after all the hard work and dedication, this tragic incident happened. May his soul rest in peace.

I pray for the safety of all our loved ones abroad as they go out and return home”.

“You can be the best driver in the world, and you’ll be on the same road with idiots ah”, a netizen added.

“Really sad. Imagine your mum telling the whole community that my son is in Abroad.

Only for this thing to happen”, one more Ghanaian added.

 In related news, Comfort Antwi, a 16-year-old Ghanaian teenager, has tragically died in a fatal car crash.

Reports suggest that the tragic incident occurred in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the United States.

The incident, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2026, on the 5800 block of West Sugar Creek Road.

The deceased Comfort Antwi was said to be driving her Toyota Yaris northbound when it veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a BMW X3.

The CMPD report stated, “On Saturday, Jan 3, at approximately 8:56 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 5800 block of West Sugar Creek Road. Upon arrival, officers located a damaged Toyota Yaris and BMW X3.

Officers found the driver of the Toyota, Comfort Antwi, 16, with life-threatening injuries. The Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the scene. MEDIC transported both Antwi and the driver of the BMW to the hospital”.

According to reports, despite medical intervention, Comfort Antwi succumbed to her injuries on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Meanwhile, Detectives from CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force have investigated the crash and collected physical evidence. Authorities have also indicated that toxicology results are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
