A Ghanaian man vented out his disappointment with the Amasaman High Court’s ruling that reduced the sentence of spiritualist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Agradaa, from 15 years to just 12 months.
According to the Man, Agradaa has done more evil than notorious criminal Atta Ayi and should not be freed.
The man argued that when Atta Ayi was sentenced to prison, his jail term was never reduced.
Speaking to the media when asked about the Amasaman High Court’s ruling that reduced Agradaa’s sentence from 15-years to 1-year, the Ghanaian man stated, “God will punish the leaders of this country. In Ghana, our leaders are wicked to the extent that if you are poor, your case is pitiful.
Agradaa has done more evil than Atta Ayi. But Atta Ayi is in prison, and Agradaa is about to come home. Agradaa has been in this country committing crimes, stealing and defrauding poor people. Go and look at her properties in Kwahu. They told us they gave Agradaa 15 years, we agreed with it, now they are saying she has appealed, so they have cut 14 years from her sentence.
The man added, “We don’t have anything to tell our leaders, the poor people’s cases are pitiful. Agradaa’s sentence should not have been reduced. When Atta Ayi stole money, was his sentence reduced? If they want to release Agradaa, then Atta Ayi must also be set free. The only difference in Arra Ayi’s crime is that he used a gun, and Agradaa used her wisdom and knowledge to steal from people”.
Some Ghanaians are reacting to the man’s comment, stating, “Well, I hope people know the case that was presented in court, because the law doesn’t deal with emotions, only the case presented.. You might have your allegations, but if you can’t present and show enough evidence, you’ve got no case!”.
Another netizen wrote, “Seen some comments stating that it’s just 1000 cedis. Please it irrelevant to take into account the amount of money. example If you steal 2 cedis from someone, you’ve committed an offence, and the court will convict you for the offence. It doesn’t matter whether 2 cedis”.
“I thought of everything that went on, and all I can say is that money and power aren’t for common people. Atta Ayi doesn’t have money, so he stayed to date. But when you have money to pay for a lawyer and connections to secure your resue I bet you the country is yours forever”, one more Ghanaian wrote.
Also, Legal experts and public commentators, Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers, has critcised the Amasaman High Court Judge for reducing the sentence of spiritualist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Agradaa, from 15 years to just 12 months.
According to Brako-Powers, the Amasaman High Court decision is absurd and a mockery of the law.
Brako-Powers highlighted that the judge’s decision is surprising, arguing that it sends the wrong signal to the public.
He explained that the judge’s decision almost reclassifies a serious felony as a mere misdemeanour, adding that a Second-degree felonies are serious crimes.
Speaking on 3FM’s Midday News on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Mr Brako-Powers explained, “It is quite surprising, but it is not new for an appellate court to reduce a sentence from 15 years to just 12 months. The key question people will be asking is: Is this really legal?”
“The imposition of jail time or years of imprisonment is discretionary. Just that the law has circumscribed the years that must be imposed,” he added.
Brako-Powers added, “To reduce a sentence from 15 years to just one year is absurd. At that point, it almost reclassifies a serious felony as a mere misdemeanour. Judges must take solace in the law and act within the legal framework. Anything less undermines justice.”
“The State has options. Acts like these should be met with sanctions that deter others. One year is simply inadequate for a crime of this magnitude,” he said.
Mr Brako-Powers also emphasised, “The judge’s decision has made a mockery of the law. Second-degree felonies are serious crimes, and leniency of this kind erodes trust in our criminal justice system”.
