Prof Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, the Deputy Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, has fired shots at the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai.

The Deputy Minister of Health has accused Prof Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai of spreading fake news, misinformation and disinformation in an attempt to damage extremely hard-earned, unblemished,  stellar academic credentials for CHEAP political gain.

According to Prof Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

In a social media post on October 24, 2025, Ayensu-Danquah wrote, “You use fake news, misinformation and disinformation in an attempt to damage extremely hard-earned, unblemished,  stellar academic credentials for CHEAP political gain instead of performing your duties with due diligence”.

You use information obtained on social media to perform high-level complex academic exercises and send a quack board chair to extort”.

She added, “No due diligence, no due process, no meeting in person, no meeting of any panel of experts, zero proper evaluation by properly laid down procedures.

Just bullying, conjecture and ad hominem attacks. No nothing!!!

Just pure hate and envy for a failed political hatchet job. No wonder you yourself are not even fit for purpose. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands”, her post concluded.

Her comments come after GTEC warned her against presenting herself as a professor.

According to GTEC, Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, despite her claims, was never appointed as an Assistant Professor of Surgery by the University of Utah in the United States.

GTEC, in a letter addressed to the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, requested Dr Ayensu-Danquah to provide documentary proof of her professorial appointment by August 11, 2025.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission further revealed that documents submitted by Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah’s legal team were inconsistent.

GTEC added that a letter from the University of Utah, signed by Prof. W. Bradford Rockwell, Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Surgery, clarified that Dr. Ayensu-Danquah was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and not Assistant Professor.

According to GTEC, the role of Adjunct Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position which equates to a part-time lecturer under Ghana’s academic framework and not a senior lecturer, and certainly not a professor.

Also, Professor Ahmed Jinapor, who has recently gained public attention for cracking down on the misuse of academic titles, is now facing scrutiny over his own credentials.

Just days ago, GTEC also released a list of 50 local and foreign tertiary institutions it described as unaccredited, sparking public debate over what many have called Professor Jinapos’ fixation with academic legitimacy. Now he finds himself under the same microscope.

In a letter dated October 24, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the GTEC Governing Board, Petitioner Kwame Simpe Ofori requested full details of Professor Jinapo’s academic qualifications, including his terminal degree, awarding institutions and the publications that supported his promotions to associate and later full professor.

The petition’s cite searches on academic databases, including Google Scholar, Scopus and ResearchGate, reportedly found no record of peer-reviewed publications under his name.

The petitioner argues that such verification is vital to ensure credibility and transparency within Ghana Tertiary education system in the letter copied to the Minister for Education the Public Services Commission and the vice-chancellor the University of Education Winneba UEW where Professor Jinapo previously lectured also seeks clarification on whether his promotion to Professor occurred at the University of Education in Winneba or after his appointment to GTEC the request Filed under the Rights to Information Act is described as being in the public interest.
