The lawyers for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi application seeking additional disclosures from state prosecutors thrown out.

It will be recalled, in court, the Wontumi’s legal team has accused the prosecution team in his mining case of withholding key documents.

According to Wontumi’s legal team, the key materials needed to prepare their case were absent from the disclosures filed by the State prosecutors.

Appiah-Kubi told the court their intention to apply for a court order compelling the prosecution to release further documents.

Wontumi and Akonta Mining are standing trial over allegations that they permitted mining operations in Ghana’s forest in their Samreboi concession without the requisite approvals.

The case was adjourned to December 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with the defence’s application for additional disclosures expected to be heard.

In court today, December 8, 2025, the defence team maintained that the documents requested were essential to their case preparation.

Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai urged the court to dismiss the defence team’s request.

The presiding judge, Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, after reviewing the submissions, effectively struck out the application.

Appiah-Kubi, speaking to journalists, stated that they are fully satisfied with the outcome of the court ruling.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi’s two mining cases have been adjourned.

Wontumi’s mining cases have been adjourned to November 12 and December 4, respectively.

In the first case, which concerns Wontumi’s Akonta mining activities at Samreboi without the required approval, proceedings were adjourned to November 12.

The adjournment was requested by the prosecution to enable them to serve the defence with the necessary disclosures.

Also, in the second case, Wontumi is accused of engaging in mining operations within the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve without authorisation.

Out of Court, Paul Yandoh, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said money cannot be sent to Chairman Wontumi through mobile money.

According to Paul Yandoh, Chairman Wontumi is going through a lot, and when money is sent to him on MoMo, it reverses back to the sender.

He further alleged that one cannot reach Wontumi through a normal call unless through a WhatsApp call.

If you send MoMo to Wontumi, MTN reverses it back to you. I am telling you, they have frozen Wontumi’s MoMo with no transaction. They reverse the money and tell you not to send money to that number anymore.

Even recently, I got some 500 cedis I wanted to send to the Chairman, but when I sent it, the money reversed back. I have not seen that before.

He added, “Wontumi has been deprived of a lot.  His MoMo is not working, even if you want to speak to Wontumi, unless you call him through WhatsApp call, they even want to take his number from him.
